Leave Eli. I suspect having the Djinn along, with her Detect Lie bullshit thing might be advantageous.

The chosen one has chosen.

:codexisfor: Mandana, stay here and watch him.

20180905173838_1.jpg

vicky1.png
Right. Thanks, let's go.

20180905173843_1.jpg

!!!

20180905173845_1.jpg

High speed chase coming right up.

20180905173845_2.jpg

The animations look p. silly btw.

20180905173847_1.jpg

This sorta reminds me of the end of the intro in Prince of Persia 2.

20180905173849_1.jpg

Big guns, ready to foire.

vicky1.png
Stop the boat, Harrison.

cap3.png
That's Captain Harrison. You Santinas, never any respect.

vicky1.png
Fuck respect, stop the boat.

cap3.png
And the language. You get that from your father. Although your mother isn't much better.

Here come the urmom taunts.

vicky1.png
Stop. The fucking. Boat.

cap1.png
Whatever you say. Just lower the gun.

20180905173907_1.jpg

The boat stops.

cap1.png
There.

20180905173914_1.jpg

Also, is it just me or are those fem-faces on the sprites rather... prosperous.

:terminate: Maybe Vicki should just shoot you and get it over with.

cap4.png
Oh. It's you. You were one of our own officers. And the Eternox shooter to boot. You've eluded us for months. I should be impressed. I can't exactly judge you. Not after everything I've done.

20180905173932_1.jpg

:codexisfor: What exactly have you done?

cap4.png
Nothing that matters much longer. He's coming.

vicky1.png
Who is coming?

ITZ

cap4.png
The general. I met him out here, on the water. He gave me this... power to manipulate minds. I used it to further my career, convinced old Lapuda to take early retirement. I should have known there'd be a... price.

20180905173952_1.jpg

:codexisfor: The General? Was he a... giant sea creature?

cap4.png
You... know of him? Then you know that he needs soldiers. Lots of them! His people can't fight on land, you see. He needs us for that. That was the deal, he gave me this power, I would send him... people. For his army.

vicky1.png
People.

SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE

cap4.png
Yes. He would send them back eventually. In pieces, usually.

vicky1.png
Pieces.

cap4.png
Then I would use my new power to... cover it up.

wouldn't it be a bit easier if they just never came back? wtf

20180905174022_1.jpg

:codexisfor: You sacrificed people, then brainwashed the police to ignore it?

cap4.png
Not just the police. Friends, family. Anyone who would question the status quo. He gave me no choice. He would have killed me otherwise. But... it could have been worse! The General wanted hundreds. I only gave him a dozen!

I wonder if he could kill you if you just moved away from big bodies of water. Maybe he'd one day spring out of your toilet?

vicky1.png
Yeah, you're a freaking hero. You made me think I was crazy. You made EVERYONE think I was crazy.

20180905174034_1.jpg

stop flailing that gun around it's embarrassing

cap4.png
I don't know. I didn't want to, believe me. But I can't touch your mind. The General's power... you are immune.

vicky1.png
I'm what?

eli1.png
It's because she's void-touched, isn't it? Your power won't work on her. Or us.

cap4.png
I knew that as soon as you walked into my station. I knew then I'd have to take... action.

vicky4.png
You sent my brother to kill me.

cap3.png
I thought you'd leave, Vicki. That you'd just move away in shame after everyone shunned you. But no. You just dug in deeper. Instead of moving away, you moved down the block! Typical Santina. Like a dog with a bone. You just won't. Let. GO!

Suddenly the water starts shaking.

20180905174104_1.jpg

UH-OH

20180905174106_1.jpg

20180905174108_1.jpg

20180905174109_1.jpg

Such all caps!

Summoner. You have returned at last. Do you intend to fulfill your promise to me?

20180905174120_1.jpg

:codexisfor: Um. Hi, General. Long time no see?

You stall. You have come empty-handed. You instructed me to bond with a human. One with ambition. And they would bring me an army. I have done so. And yet I still wait for an army worthy of the name. So I ask again, where is my army, summoner? My people continue to get slaughtered by the hour!

20180905174144_1.jpg

:codexisfor: Whatever deal you made, it wasn't with me.

Lies. Why do you LIE?

STOP THE LIES, START THE TRUTHS.

You are the one who summoned me here. YOU are the one who promised me an army. But you just toy with me. Why?

20180905174155_1.jpg

:codexisfor: This is obviously just a BIG misunderstanding.

You play with the lives of my people. There is no misunderstanding.

cap3.png
Right. Enough of this.

20180905174200_1.jpg

She reaches for the boat controls.

Your death! The blood of my people demands it!

BLOOD AND THUNDER

20180905174207_1.jpg

The boat starts.

20180905174209_1.jpg

Well, this is silly.

Seems like a good moment to have a chat with everyone!

Harrison's gaze remains fixed on the water. She avoids looking anyone in the eye.

cap4.png
Is what the General said true? You summoned him here?

20180905174219_1.jpg

:codexisfor: Yes and no. It's... complicated.

cap3.png
It seems pretty simple to me. If it wasn't for you, we wouldn't be here right now. You're just lucky the General chose ME. Anyone else would have seen hundreds dead by now.

Vicki is calm. Almost stoic. Whatever happens next, she is ready for it.

vicky2.png
This feels good. This feels RIGHT. Strange, isn't it?

No, I think you're just crazy.

20180905174246_1.jpg

:codexisfor: Just like old times

(meanwhile the General keeps chasing the boat like an impotent)

vicky2.png
The old times can suck it.

vicky3.png
What a thing to say, this is crazy. I should be freaking out. I should be pissing myself. What the hell is wrong with me?

20180905174255_1.jpg

:happytrollboy: GOBBLE GOBBLE, ONE OF US

vicky2.png
I am? Maybe. It's worth thinking about. Maybe I belong with you people after all.

Eli is holding his ground. If he's nervous, he gives no sign.

eli2.png
Surrounded by water. I'm not exactly in my element here.

20180905174308_1.jpg

:codexisfor: Can you get this boat moving faster?

eli2.png
You mean with my fire magic? Sure. I could increase the engine's fuel burn rate. We'll speed up for about two seconds. THEN EXPLODE.

eli5.png
*Sigh* If there's anything more useless than a fire mage at sea, I can't think of it.

20180905174320_1.jpg

Time to engage turn-based combat :bunkertime:

eli2.png
A butter knife? REALLY?

It was worth a try :M

20180905174335_1.jpg

Let's see if there's anything in this here console.

20180905174340_1.jpg

Hmmm.

20180905174342_1.jpg

Ooh, my favourite!

20180905174347_1.jpg

Let's lower the flag for good measure too.

20180905174350_1.jpg

Pretty sturdy.

20180905174400_1.jpg

STURDY ENOUGH TO BURN? @_@

Actually, nope. The solution is even simpler than that. I guess the flagpole is there if you pick Bandana or sth.

20180905174407_1.jpg

Gotta throw the canister at the General.

20180905174407_2.jpg

Those fx look really cheap btw.

20180905174419_1.jpg

:prosper:

20180905174422_1.jpg

WE NUKED THE WORLD

20180905174426_1.jpg

oh wait no

Was this your plan? I should have known. To bait me into battle. To fight me. To kill me.

20180905174437_1.jpg

:terminate: You have two choices. Leave this world or die.

I... don't understand. You give me the choice? You show me mercy?

eli1.png
You were given a bum deal, we get that. But no more people die, that's final.

I see. Very well, I accept your terms. I will leave and never return.

20180905174452_1.jpg

:codexisfor: What about Harrison's brainwashing abilities?

vicky4.png
Yeah, good question.

Joy Harrison and I are bonded. She will share my power as long as...

vicky4.png
Speak up. Can't hear you.

... as long as I am alive.

vicky4.png
Right.

20180905174505_1.jpg

:codexisfor: What guarantee do we have that you won't come back?

eli1.png
[intelligence] Right, the bond between you and Harrison, that ain't going away. You could - theoretically - come back whenever you want, right?

She is my anchor in this world, yes. But I have accepted your terms. I will honor them.

eli1.png
Right, in that case break the bond. That way there's no issue.

I cannot. It is permanent. It remains in place until either I die... or she does.

20180905174519_1.jpg

:codexisfor: What if you took Harrison back with you?

Then her anchor will be in my world. I will be unable to return here.

vicky4.png
And we'll be free of her brainwashing ass.

cap4.png
What? You must be joking. I'm the INNOCENT one here.

Innocent? You accepted my offer. Quite eagerly, I might add.

eli1.png
Harrison's no innocent, but she's still human. She doesn't belong on your world.

vicky1.png
She doesn't belong on THIS one either. Not after the crap she's pulled.

So... tell me what you wish. Joy Harrison would make a fine soldier.

The tyranny of choices knows no bounds!

Shall Codexia PURGE THE ALIEN or LET IT GO or LET IT GO AND TAKE THE HERETIC WITH IT?

The general already had gasoline thrown at him and was set aflame, so its only fair that now Harrison gets her due. Let him take her. Tastefully.

The only mercy we're going to have for the heretics is no mercy. Send her to serve merman.

What a strange game. It's basically a bunch of railroaded visual novel scenes, with a few amazingly crappy 'puzzles', and then every scene culminates in a CHOICE. I guess it's better than not having the choices.

We are apparently gracious to aberrations, less to humans. He takes ze woman.

Even in screenshots some of these situations look silly. The dev is usually better at writting and gameplay than this. What happened? Will these choices actually do something, or are they Age of Decadence-style choices with no result, or a "wall-of-text" result instead?

In any case:

The woman wanted power, so let her have it. Have the Merman take the ugly woman.

Speaking of: Yep, most of the portraits are quite ugly, for some reason.

They affect how you progress through the last chapter and I think probably the ending slides as well. Can't confirm the latter since I only beat the game once.

So far, I have to admit I'm not quite convinced by the game.

There are too few puzzles and most of them seem too easy. I'm not really a fan of the absurdly complicated puzzles that you could find in old-school adventure games, but an adventure game that's too easy is no better.

And the scenaristic concept seems (so far) to lack originality. Secret organizations protecting the modern world against supernatural creatures have been used so many times that it would take very good ideas to make them work.

I am convinced - that the game is awful in almost every way.

Obviously, I shall read every LP update

The fate of these two is decided.

latest
I will feed you to the warp myself, Harrison.

20180908100104_1.jpg

vicky4.png
Move it. Whatever happens over there, it couldn't happen to anyone nicer.

The bargain's been struck. I will have one new soldier for my efforts this night.

cap3.png
Damn you all.

20180908100117_1.jpg

SHE'S PACKING

cap3.png
Screw you, General. And screw your war! I hope your people die. I hope they CHOKE!

:0-13:

20180908100125_1.jpg

Blackout, gunshot, sound of something heavy falling into the water.

how dramatic

20180908100132_1.jpg

Oops?

The bond is broken. When I return home, I will have no path back here.

eli1.png
Then leave. For God's sake, just LEAVE. There's been enough bloodshed.

Yes. My people need me. With or without an army. Good bye. I pray we will not meet again.

20180908100150_1.jpg

Miraculous healing lets the General call open a portal back home.

20180908100154_1.jpg

don1.png
And I could subdue you that way?

mandy1.png
No. But someone else? Perhaps.

Wise sensei giving ninja turainingu.

don1.png
There she is. Vicki!

20180908100206_1.jpg

don2.png
Vicki! Is it true? Did Harrison order me to kill you?

vicky1.png
You don't remember?

don1.png
I'm... not sure? Last thing I remember I was talking to Harrison. Then I'm waking up in the storage with a splitting headache. Came here to the dock and found this lady. She told me to wait here for you.

uhm i thought she was supposed to stay with you

don1.png
What... happened? Where's the kaptin?

vicky1.png
She's gone. She's not coming back.

don1.png
I... I don't know why, but I think it's a good thing?

vicky1.png
You have no idea.

don3.png
Right. The less I know, the better. But I do know one thing. I'm sorry. For... everything.

20180908100228_1.jpg

Exit Donny.

vicky1.png
So do you guys have a wizard clubhouse or something?

mandy1.png
We have a headquarters, yes.

vicky1.png
How do we get there? Magic carpet?

mandy1.png
No, the ferry. And then the subway.

Why can't we commandeer Harrison's boat? :negative:

vicky1.png
Yeesh. Well, let's jet. The 10:05 ferry's leaving any minute.

20180908100238_1.jpg

Exeunt.

20180908100242_1.jpg

Fadeout.

20180908100245_1.jpg

Back at the ranch!

You know what that means.

20180908100342_1.jpg

Datamining!

mandy3.png
Good evening. I trust you are rested after last night? I admit that I am... jealous. To be out at sea again... well, it would be like old times.

20180908100356_1.jpg

:codexisfor: Old times?

mandy3.png
Old times. My childhood. At my mother's knee, learning from the best.

20180908100407_1.jpg

:codexisfor: Was your mother a jinn as well?

mandy4.png
She was... not. Formidable, but merely human. I do not often dwell on the past, but I dare not forget it. I am the daughter of the pirate queen of Ulster. And her legacy lives through me.

20180908100425_1.jpg

:codexisfor: I have some questions about yourself.

20180908100428_1.jpg

:codexisfor: Your mother was a poirate?

mandy3.png
I did not say pirate. I said pirate QUEEN. She had a whole fleet of ships. She ruled the waters of half the old Irish kingdoms before she was through.

GRRL POWER!

mandy4.png
Her portrait hangs in the study. She was... a formidable woman. But, in the end, merely human. Though it has been centuries since she passed, I still remember her. Every time I swing this blade on my back.

:codexisfor: How's Vicki settling in?

mandy1.png
We have spent the morning conversing. She seems quite... eager. Anxious to prove herself. I have seen her sort before. Recruits like her are the first to throw themselves into danger. And are the first to get themselves killed. I have grown fond of her. I hope that does not happen.

uguu~

:codexisfor: Any thoughts on that last mission?

mandy1.png
Harrison's death was... not your doing. Do not blame yourself. All her choices were the result of selfishness and greed. They caught up with her. That is all.

:codexisfor: I'll leave you to it.

mandy1.png
Thank you.

20180908100506_1.jpg

Eli is back at powergaming his feuer magix.

eli4.png
Hey there. You're awake. That was quite the harbor cruise last night. Most people would pay good money for that.

20180908100534_1.jpg

:codexisfor: I didn't do much sight-seeing.

eli4.png
You mean you didn't glance once at the Statue of Liberty? I guess you're a real New Yorker after all.

eli2.png
But seriously, the brass ones on that guy. Showing up in the middle of the harbor like he did. Supernatural creatures used to be more... skittish. They worked in the shadows. They're getting BRAVER. Bolder. Flexing their muscles in front of mundanes. And if that goes unchecked...

he starts pacing outside the circle

eli1.png
Well, we know where that leads, don't we?

20180908100558_1.jpg

:codexisfor: No, I don't. Where does it lead?

eli1.png
People rising up. People falling down. ... sorry, I'm not making a whole lot of sense, am I? Many centuries ago, there was a fire mage. His name was Aldin. He got bold too. He killed people with his power. Whole villages. Armies. Nobody could stop him.

again with the pacing

eli1.png
He was my great grandfather.

ZOMG

eli1.png
So yeah, I know where this leads. And it's never anywhere nice.

20180908100624_1.jpg

:codexisfor: How's Vicki adjusting?

eli4.png
Surprisingly well. Better than I did back in the day. Of course, I was setting fire to everything I touched. So... there was that.

:codexisfor: I'd like to know about Aldin.

eli1.png
Yeah, I guess I can't casually mention an evil fire mage and not expect a follow-up question. Like I said, he's my great grandfather. Or was. He's dead now.

"casually mention"

20180908100638_1.jpg

:codexisfor: What happened to him?

eli1.png
He was brought down. It was inevitable, really. Aldin got too bold and too powerful. Someone had to do something about it. So the families of his victims got together. They made a deal with the fae of the Unseelie Court. How they did it, I don't know, but they turned themselves into... hunters.

Yippie, the wild hunt joins the list of generic fantasy things.

20180908100654_1.jpg

:happytrollboy: Fae? As in fairies?

eli1.png
Fairies, elves, whatever you want to call them. They're trouble with a capital T. They became the Hunters of Aldin. Infused with unimaginable power, they were dedicated to one purpose and one purpose only. Stopping and killing Aldin by any means necessary.

20180908100713_1.jpg

:codexisfor: You don't look happy about that.

eli1.png
I am and I'm not. Aldin needed to die. He was... well he was insane. No question. And after a long and bloody battle, they did it. Aldin was dead. But the Hunters weren't done, not by a long shot. They decided ALL fire mages had to die. And they've been doing it ever since.

20180908100726_1.jpg

:codexisfor: [Perception] But... you're a fire mage.

eli1.png
Yep. When my power... manifested, they were drawn to me like a homing beacon. They wanted to kill me. Mandana and Kalash found me just in time. They... helped me fake my death. Threw the Hunters off my trail. And I've been here ever since. So yeah, monsters working out in the open never leads to anything good. People WILL fight back. One way or another. And innocents have to pay the price. Every time.

:codexisfor: Any thoughts on our last mission?

eli3.png
Harrison was a nasty piece of work, but honestly? If I was faced with the same threat, I might have done the same thing. I don't judge you for making that call. You tried to avoid bloodshed, it backfired. It... happens.

:codexisfor: I'll leave you to it.

eli4.png
Right! See you around.

All that's left is the study.

20180908100843_1.jpg

Vicki the boozehound

vicky3.png
So this place is real. It's all real. You know, when I got up this morning, I thought I dreamt it all. But everything's changed. People are... remembering. Remembering that people died. I heard Vinny crying all night. He doesn't understand. How could he? I wanna tell him, but... that would be a really bad idea. Anyway, I'm ready to get to work.

20180908100908_1.jpg

:codexisfor: You settling in okay?

vicky2.png
I'm fine. Just show me the monsters and I'll take 'em out.

:codexisfor: It's good to be working with you again, Vicki.

vicky2.png
Right back atcha. Just... don't shoot me again or anything.

:codexisfor: Looks like I've got seniority over you now.

vicky2.png
Yeah, whatever. Don't let it go to your head. You still have a lot to learn... partner.

:codexisfor: How's Donny doing?

vicky5.png
Donny? He's super pissed. He's not sure what happened, but he knows he was tricked. He's doing his best to make it right. Not that it really CAN be made right.

:codexisfor: What happened on Staten Island since we left?

vicky1.png
The station's a madhouse. All the victims' families are flooding the place, demanding answers. The cops don't know what to say. You'd think I'd feel a bit of... I dunno. Vindication or whatever. But I just wanna move on.

:codexisfor: Any thoughts on the last mission?

vicky1.png
I can't change what happened to all those people, but if I can stop it from happening to anyone else? I'm ready and raring to go.

:codexisfor: We'll chat later.

vicky2.png
Right. Catch ya later, partner.

20180908100952_1.jpg

Who the hell is WRITING those reports?

kalash1.png
It has been a long time since I have seen one of the mer-folk. To hear they are so... changed distresses my greatly.

20180908100959_1.jpg

:codexisfor: Changed in what way?

kalash1.png
The creature in the report is almost unrecognizable from the people I once knew. The mer-folk once lived in harmony with humanity. This is several thousand years ago, of course, but... they were peaceful. Playful. Loyal to their allies. All they asked in return was to live in peace. Now I hear they are fighting for their lives? Fighting wars? Building armies? *Sigh* I suppose our world is not the only one that has evolved. Regardless, one must not live in the past. If you are ready, we will start the meeting.

20180908101024_1.jpg

:codexisfor: Call the meeting.

kalash1.png
I agree.

Uhh, you don't need to call me that. I'm no detective. Not anymore.

kalash1.png
My daughter speaks the truth. For a full year, you were on a mission to ferret out the truth at great risk to yourself. Is that correct?

vicky1.png
Yeah, who else was gonna do it?

kalash1.png
Then it is settled. You are a detective. "One who detects". Speak no more of it.

You could also say she is an inquisitor, as one who is inquisitive.

20180908101058_1.jpg

:brodex: Welcome on board, Vicki. We could use another cop around here.

vicky2.png
We might not have the authority of the city of New York anymore, but we still got some tricks up our sleeve, don't we?

kalash1.png
Indeed. Now to the matter at hand. The jinn were great friends of the mer-folk once. I remember them quite fondly. I am grateful you let the General live, but not at the expense of Joy Harrison's life.

eli1.png
Not by our hand. She killed herself, sir.

vicky1.png
Sometimes a nasty perp does you a favor and ices themselves. Saves paperwork and manpower. Not to mention lives.

there's a slight pause

vicky1.png
What? Pulling that trigger made things better for everyone. I ain't gonna pretend otherwise.

kalash1.png
That was... harsh, but truly spoken.

vicky2.png
Darn right.

kalash1.png
You all did good work last night, considering the circumstances. But my question still stands - why? Why is the demon doing this? What does it have to gain?

eli1.png
We, um, still don't know.

kalash1.png
Have you investigated the Bronx as instructed?

mandy1.png
No, not yet, father.

kalash1.png
Then perhaps you will find our answers there.

20180908101141_1.jpg

:codexisfor: Maybe we missed a clue in the Village Eye. A clue only a cop like Vicki could see.

vicky2.png
I don't see any cops. So I guess you'll have to settle for me.

kalash1.png
You all know your duty. Report back when you have new information. Meeting adjourned!

20180908101148_1.jpg

20180908101150_1.jpg

eli4.png
Yeah, you get used to that.

20180908101159_1.jpg

We might as well still check out the Village Eye today.

20180908102756_1.jpg

vicky1.png
So this is how you guys travel? By subway?

eli1.png
It's all we have the budget for, most of the time.

vicky1.png
Budget constraints, yeah, I get that. But what about an EMERGENCY?

eli1.png
Emergency?

vicky1.png
Yeah, like, let's say some monster is about to rip the mayor's arm off. You're gonna take the subway?

mandy1.png
Don't be foolish.

eli1.png
Yeah, the mayor would just grow a new arm.

!

vicky1.png
Right. Wait, what?

eli1.png
It's a... long story.

vicky1.png
Nevermind, I don't wanna know.

20180908102843_1.jpg

We can know add BROS to the party.

20180908102849_1.jpg

Unfortunately there's a strict BRO limit of 2, so Bandana will have to ride the subway through the night like a hobo while we check the Village Eye.

20180908102857_1.jpg

Familiar surroundings.

20180908102901_1.jpg

O shit, it's teh fuzz.

vicky3.png
Oh. Hey Cory, how's it doing?

This is probably Cory Palmer, the sucker cop from Blackwell Epiphany. His voice sure changed tho.

cop.png
You know, standing here in the rain, guarding a wreck. You?

vicky1.png
Eh, things sucked. Might be getting better. Catch up later?

cop.png
Sure. It's good to see you.

20180908102910_1.jpg

:codexisfor: He could see you through the veil? Is he void-touched?

vicky1.png
Eh? No, Kalash asked me if I wanted a veil. I told him no.

:x Wait, you were asked? How come I wasn't?

eli1.png
You were a wanted criminal. In cases like yours it's mandatory. Sorry.

vicky1.png
Makes sense. Hell, I almost shot you the first time I saw you.

:codexisfor: You two know each other?

vicky1.png
Sure I do. You would too, if you ever went to the socials.

destroyed :negative:

let's proceed

20180908102958_1.jpg

I wonder if Wendy's still at the park.

20180908103010_1.jpg

Nope, only a murderhobo.

Off to the basement.

20180908103025_1.jpg

eli1.png
It was a large spillover of life energy, but... essentially yeah. That's kind of it.

20180908103033_1.jpg

Get to work, inquisitor Santina.

vicky1.png
This the stiff?

eli1.png
That's him.

vicky1.png
Right, let's take a look.

20180908103041_1.jpg

:informative:

eli1.png
Yeah, my best guess is that he's being absorbed by the life energy in the room.

vicky1.png
What. He's being EATEN? Are we safe here?

eli1.png
It's LIFE energy. It doesn't kill. As long as we're alive, we're fine.

vicky1.png
Fine. But if I turn into plant-woman, I'm coming after you. Anyway, good news. His hands are still pretty human-ish.

20180908103053_1.jpg

:codexisfor: [Scholastic lore: police investigation] Aha. You can take fingerprints.

vicky1.png
Duh. Did I teach you nothing or what? Aaaand... got 'em. That's the easy part. Now I just gotta call in a favor.

20180908103100_1.jpg

A telephone! Such technology.

vicky1.png
I'm sending you a file. Fingerprints. Could you get them analyzed for me? Yeah, it's dead ass urgent. Well, la dee dah, look at Mr Responsibility. Too busy to help out his own sister.

vicky2.png
Nah, I'm just yanking your chain. I get it. Get back to me when you can.

she hangs up

vicky1.png
Donny's swamped. This'll take some time. Might as well hit the Bronx. See if we can dig something else up.

Indeed.

20180908103134_1.jpg

Back to the subway.

Whom shall we take for the next mission in da hood, ye Codex? Our options are Eli, Mandana and Vicki, but there are only two party slots, so choose wisely!

Since it's not guaranteed we'd have vicki for this mission (unless I am mistaken), I assume there's less content for her.

So lets take eli and bandana.

Yep, p much all this. When it comes to puzzles etc, it's basically a walking sim in point and click format, and I don't like that at all.

As for the concept, I don't really mind the angle of sikrit society protecting mankind, that's fine as it is imo, even if it's a common theme. What I find much worse is how common everything else is, to the point where it's p. much taking shit wholesale from every other urban fantasy thing out there. Regular dude protag is suddenly sucked into the underground mythical society of the Big City, leaving his life behind to dwell among punk fairies, and nobody can recognise him anymore cuz of arcane masking! Now please save Big City from the ancient evil or it's gonna consume the entire world too. It's basically Neverwhere fanfic or sth, although to be frank, I find that this is an accusation that can be tossed at a LOT of urban fantasy out there - it seems the authors can't stop themselves from mutually recycling ideas and themes.

I'd say Unavowed is tied with Shardlight as the worst Wadjet Eye game I've played so far, albeit for different reasons. Shardlight at least had puzzles and actual adventure game gameplay, but the story/writing were completely pants-on-head idiotic. Meanwhile Unavowed is a pure walking sim, but at least it's much less stupid.

Otoh I at least appreciate the shtick with having an extended party of dudes that you can shuffle and the different origin stories. They add some character to the game and I guess make different playthroughs interesting. Also, depending on party comp you get some different ways to solve puzzles, which while not present in the update, could already been seen in that scene where Vicki traps you in the broom closet:

- You don't need Bandana to open the fusebox for you, you can do it with the pocket knife.
- There's a vent in the lower left of the screen, but Bandana can't open it alone. I guess there'll be another party member coming in the Bronx, who's another stronkpowerful manguy, and if you have him + Bandana you can open that vent and clobber Donny over the head from behind.

Blackout, gunshot, sound of something heavy falling into the water.

How lazy. In the last Blackwell game they showed that woman offing herself in all of her glory, yet here they don't animate that.

Why can't we commandeer Harrison's boat? :negative:

Because secrecy duh. That's why it was left hanging out there as if didn't exist.

I did not say pirate. I said pirate QUEEN. She had a whole fleet of ships. She ruled the waters of half the old Irish kingdoms before she was through.
GRRL POWER!

Yeah, this is stretching credibility a bit thin. I suppose she had magical powers too.

We have spent the morning conversing. She seems quite... eager. Anxious to prove herself. I have seen her sort before. Recruits like her are the first to throw themselves into danger. And are the first to get themselves killed.

Considering you were like TWO OPERATIVES! for many years, you probably did that quite often.

Who the hell is WRITING those reports?

Magic, obviously, seeing that none of the original pair seems very much into keeping tabs of stuff.

So this is how you guys travel? By subway?

You know what's bad? When writers acknowledge a problem in their work but, rather than solving it, they make fun of it. Most of the time doesn't work.
Oddly enough it happens a lot in games. I wonder why...

Yeah, the mayor would just grow a new arm.

Of course politicians are demons/monsters.

Unfortunately there's a strict BRO limit of 2

Considering the limited manpower, not sure why that arbitrary headcount limit. Extra points because 2 of the operatives don't have actual powers.

I'm sending you a file. Fingerprints. Could you get them analyzed for me? Yeah, it's dead ass urgent. Well, la dee dah, look at Mr Responsibility. Too busy to help out his own sister.

How? Sending the fingerprints telepathically? Nevermind the above then.

Whom shall we take for the next mission in da hood, ye Codex? Our options are Eli, Mandana and Vicki, but there are only two party slots, so choose wisely!

Mandana and Vicki for an all-girl mission!

Shardlight has worse writing? That sounds worth a playthrough for the lulz.

When you find him, fella's in no shape to join you at Staten Island, I think.

Yeah that was something I wondered about too. She has a convenient fingerprint taking set and then she scans the results with her phone and sends them over?

Shardlight has worse writing?

Yep, it's pretty terrible. My favourite part of that game will always be the soopa high-security not-Guantanamo that you eventually land in. To escape, you drop an anvil on the head of the lone guard patrolling the courtyard, then walk out through the wide open and unguarded main gate.
