Well, I am taking a brief semi-break from my Ultima LP to do a quick blind LP of Fallout: New Vegas. This LP will not be as extensive as the others I have done.

Part 2: Back to school
Part 3: Man on the run
Part 4: A Fistful of Bottle Caps
Part 5: Rocket Ghoul

Part 1: How the fuck am I alive?

As I said in the introduction, this LP will cover my initial playthrough of New Vegas. It will not be as extensive as my others.

Alright, let's fire this baby up!

Yeah, yeah. There is always legal crap.

NewVegas0001.png

Fuck Steam and fuck Bethesda for mandating it!

NewVegas0002.png

Wow! It was done by Obsidian (i.e. the remnants of Black Isle)! If Meester Chris Avellone is at the helm, this HAS to be good!
Wait a minute . . . if Obsidian is the remnants of Black Isle, then that means . . .

Your crappy motion picture wannabe is about to begin.

NewVegas0005.png

What the fuck is that?! Is it Power Armor?! What?!

Fuck it. Let's just select "New."

You can watch the intro video here. Since there are no subtitles, I will just provide commentary.

*Cue Richard Rogers' Blue Moon.*

NewVegas0007.png

What a pretty, futuristic tower!

NewVegas0008.png

Oh, it's just a painting! This would be cute if I hadn't seen it three times before.

Boom! Headshot!

NewVegas0015.png

NewVegas0016.png

What's going on here?

*Cue Ron Perlman.*

War. War never changes.

He basically goes through the stuff we already know. The setting is Las New Vegas, a town sandwiched between the New California Republic and an army of slavers called Caesar's Legion. The enigmatic ruler of New Vegas is Mr. House. The main character was hired by the Mojave Express to deliver a message to New Vegas but apparently got set-up and is now set to be executed. Here are some random screenshots of the Perlman section.

You've made your last delivery, kid.

Sorry you got twisted up in this scene. From where you're sitting it must seem like an 18K run of bad luck.

NewVegas0030.png

The truth is ... the game was rigged from the start.

NewVegas0031.png

BANG!

Well that was a short game!

NewVegas0038.png

This is Colonel Tigh. He patches us up.

NewVegas0039.png

I hit "randomize" until I find the first face that looks halfway decent.

NewVegas0040.png

Here is where I choose my SPECIAL scores.

NewVegas0041.png

It is nice that F:NV actually respects my control preferences unlike SOME games I can think of.

NewVegas0042.png

I leave Strength as is.

NewVegas0043.png

I give myself an extra point of Perception since I wanna be a shooter.

NewVegas0044.png

As is.

NewVegas0045.png

One please.

NewVegas0046.png

I give myself two points of Intelligence.

NewVegas0048.png

One please.

NewVegas0049.png

As is.

NewVegas0050.png

This is my rapsheet.

NewVegas0051.png

Now, I have to subject myself to another one of Bethesda's lame attempts to rip-off Ultima's virtue test.

This is more like it.

NewVegas0057.png

WTF?!

NewVegas0058.png

This is the only one I take.

NewVegas0059.png

Saul gives me his old Pipboy and shows me the door.

Next time I will get to the game proper.

100% Fallout, kids.

Why does it look like some mod for Bioshock?
Why every X360 game looks like some mod for Bioshock?
It's not UnrealEngine3 this time, is it?

That's what happens when developers lack imagination and overuse the same engine to death. :decline:

Good choice for a lp Elzair, in compensation I promise I'll follow your Ultima lps after this one is done as soon as I have some free time.

I'm laughing at the Killzone/Jin-Roh armor ripoff.

Also space laz0rz and Tabitha incoming.

Obsidian can make Fallout 3 even more stupid than Bethesda already did. Just watch and see.

Some random old dude drags your body to his house, nurses you back, makes you do some tests and gives you a Pip-Boy. Let me guess, next update he will give a quest and die a horrible death, won't he?

At least there's going to be a decent quantity of lulz, right?

Nope.

I read spoilers about why he did it and in a way it makes sense if that is true, Victor was the one that dig up the body and from what I seen, there was a reason for it.

Part 2: Back to school

Fallout: New Vegas

Part 2: Back to school

After Colonel Tigh let me out, he told me to get some help from a Sunny Smiles at the local saloon. With a name like that she has to be a hooker.

NewVegas0060.png

Alright, now that character creation is out of the way, let's head on out.

NewVegas0061.png

Why am I blinded by sunlight? It made sense in Fallouts 1 and 3 because the main character had lived in a vault for his or her entire life, but here it is just fucking stupid! I couldn't have been out more than a few days.

Whatever. Let's just hit-up the local general store and shoot the shit.

NewVegas0063.png

It must be a pretty shitty casino then!

Seriously, why would you build a casino and then not let anyone go inside. Was Avellone high when he wrote this?

NewVegas0064.png

This makes me wonder where the electricity is coming from. At least it is as tacky as most real-life bars.

NewVegas0065.png

This yokel fills me in on what will likely be the main conflict of the game. Let's head in and speak with Sunny Smiles.

NewVegas0066.png

Hell yeah! I need to 'unload a round' if ya know what I mean.

NewVegas0067.png

Fuck! She just wants to shoot cans.

NewVegas0068.png

Obsidian has really improved the aiming system in this game. It is rather cool that they use realistic sights on guns. After that, Sunny asks me to help her clear out some geckos.

NewVegas0069.png

I sneak up to the geckos and line up a shot.

NewVegas0070.png

Booyah!!

NewVegas0071.png

Okay. I clear out one location, and then I lose track of Sunny.

NewVegas0072.png

I have no idea what went wrong here. I saw Sunny's dog walking back alone, so she might have died. Whatever, I just reload.

NewVegas0073.png

VATS is the same as always.

NewVegas0074.png

You said it. Now she wants to tell me about crafting.

NewVegas0075.png

She tells me that I can find Xander Root outside the schoolhouse, and I can find Broc Flower in the cemetery.

NewVegas0076.png

What is with Bethesda/Obsidian and obnoxious cowboy robots? Apparently, I owe it since it dragged my ass out of the cemetery.

NewVegas0077.png

The outside of the schoolhouse is crawling with these annoyances. I just punch them or avoid them.

NewVegas0083.png

I find the Xander Root outside the school by the front door. I then head inside.

NewVegas0078.png

I need a Science skill of 25 to hack the computer. It looks like Obsidian, like Bethesda, uses the 25, 50, 75, 100 values.

NewVegas0079.png

I don't know what this does, and I also found a Salesman's Weekly in this building.

I now head for the cemetery.

NewVegas0080.png

WTF?!

NewVegas0081.png

Even when they have access to a polished engine, Obsidian still manages to fuck it up.

NewVegas0082.png

After slaughtering some annoying "Bloat Flies" that shoot a never-ending supply of stingers at me, I claim the Broc Flower and fast-travel back to Sunny.

NewVegas0084.png

She tells me to light the campfire.

NewVegas0085.png

Here is Fallout's new crafting system. I guess you can make stuff with the right skills and the ingredients. It is just like Ultima VII or Minecraft except . . . lamer.

Anyway, I head back to the saloon and witness an argument.

NewVegas0086.png

This smells like a sidequest. I speak to the woman after the bandit has left.

NewVegas0087.png

NewVegas0088.png

That sounds cool, but I want to explore more first. Since my quest log tells me I should check in with the Mojave Express Office in Grimm, I head south and out of town.

NewVegas0089.png

No, I think I will leave me as I am.

While playing New Vegas, I oscillate between considering this a Fallout game and not. Sure, it has all the Bethesda trappings, but there is something deeper that appears to have the Fallout charm. I will have to play more and see.

The programmers digest is a skill magazine, which gives a temporary boost the the science skill. If you didn't have science tagged, it should have boosted it enough to let you hack the terminal.
