Well sheeeit, this I did not expect. That makes two Psi projects rushed by Morgan denying them to Yang, corporate thievan is strong within this one. At least Miriam did not get fusion power.

Yet another reason to purge Morgan and put his citizens in a zoo - zealotry.

Hive-University Collaboration introduces a new animated series to strengthen bonds

The date: the 2030s. The place: the Russian town of Otradnoye. A young, handsome Zakharov walks into a ball held by the noble von Pravinovich family. Everyone in the room looks askance at this middle-class pretender – everyone except the beautiful Lady Deidre Skye.

Mesmerized by Deidre, a princess-like figure with auburn hair, pink eyes, and a light blue gown, Zakharov invites her to dance as Duke Morgan watches angrily from the sidelines.

“He wants me to marry a black man, but I only have you in my heart,” she tells Zakharov as they talk in the garden after the ball, hands intertwined.

“When are you getting married?” says Zakharov. “Tell me when you decide, so I can marry you.”

screen_shot_2019-01-29_at_1.38.03_pm.png

This a scene from University's latest hit anime – a biopic of the Russian philosopher, documenting everything from his education to his love life to his writing of the foundational texts of science.

Titled “For I have tasted the Fruit,” the seven-episode show is the latest production by the Hive-University propaganda apparatus, which is taking up new kinds of media to strengthen its ideological appeal to the faction's younger generations. The first episode has been watched more than 2.8 million times in less than a day.

screen_shot_2019-01-29_at_1.46.12_pm.png

The show is a hit among the audience, particularly in the Hive.

It’s not all about romance, though. Zakharov is shown racking up debt to cover his bar tab, engaging in fierce philosophical debates with his schoolmates at the University over the better version of post-apocalyptic classic role playing games. It was agreed the third game was the worst.

The producers of “For I have tasted the Fruit" said they tried to make both Zakharov and his fellow University colleagues seem more approachable and less serious to a young audience, according to state-run news site.
It’s worked for some. On Bilibili, the “bullet screen” system which overlays audience comments over the video appear to be positive about the dreamy-eyed philosopher.

“Zakharov is so cute,” said eldari21
“Betabuxxer is teaching you how to seduce a girl, must take notes,” added chad88

The young, handsome Zakharov depicted in show stands in stark contrast with the old Zakharov most audience are familiar with.

H1m10aF.png

But not everyone was so impressed. On Bilibili, many anime fans lamented that the production is basically an alternative to nerve stapling.
Some have also complained that the streaming site allows paying subscribers to watch the next episode before everyone else.

“So capitalists people like Morgan get to watch first?” a Bilibili user commented.

Chen Daoyin, a Hive-based political scientist, says that overall, the anime will be an effective way to educate young people about their newest ally, University.

screen_shot_2019-01-29_at_1.39.17_pm.png

“Teenagers will be more willing to accept this alliance if they get to know Zakharov as a person first,” Chen says. “The ultimate goal is to make them recognize the faction’s official ideology and how they can eventually be assimilated into the Hive culture.”

Recording of morganic alarm at Morgan Ocean Dew

JlZgWEM.png

The Science Legion has announced the success of the first stage of operation Fedora Tyrant as total naval control over Solaris Mare has been established and maintained for the past few cycles. Following a devastating plasma barrage delivered by the Tesla Cannons of the Unity to a believing scout vessel, multiple Pioneer class frigates supporting this dreadnought fired their Korolev missiles at the corporate slave pen called Morgan Ocean Dew. The criminal warlord Morgan is getting the justice he deserves for engineering the Gaian Genocide.

Artistic depiction of Morganic forces being distracted by the Hive allowing for the attack on Morgan Ocean Dew.

With the defenders decimated and the corporate hovel blazing like a torch it is only a matter of time before it is captured by the forces of progress, as it is besieged from both land and sea by the mighty Science Legion forces.

The Stella Tesla celebrates yet another operational anniversary today. Six times bigger than it was back when it first started sending power to the surface it shines brightly in the evening sky. It is a true monument to the aeronautical and space exploration effort of our generation just as the Tesla Orbital Power Holding operating and expanding it claims. Viceprovost Feldt personally congratulated the engineers for a great job done in ensuring that the old earth dream of near space industry that did not become a reality on the homeworld becomes a reality now on Chiron.

Thanks to the efforts of our xenoarcheologists the construction techniques necessary to cheaply produce large habitation domes have been uncovered as well as improved large scale battery power storage and superconducting reducing energy loss. University Base, Climatic Research, Academogorodok and Mir Lab are just some of the cities already enjoying the freedom of movement in open spaces filled with earth-like air, something the planetborn have never previously experienced.

And now for a special report on the new transgenics section of the University Base Menagerie….

[flashy transition]

The Menagerie as you know is the home to many creatures interesting to the biological sciences. Now it can boast a whole new area pushing the zoological garden concept into a brave new world of study and education. Transgenic lifeforms, also known as artificial species or engineered life, are getting their own area in the Menagerie, showing the wonderful progress made by genetic engineering in past few cycles.

Visitors will be able to see such majestic creates as…

fQuMJFn.png

…the Greasel, a cuddly creature capable of spitting corrosive toxins when threatened. Please note that it always feels threatened, how remarkable!

tHRmQrP.png

...the Licker, a lifeform created by Midori Kanagawa as part of her master’s thesis on viral-induced cellular restructuring in human test subjects for the purposes of recreating fictional creatures. Only 5 Believing captives had to die to defictionalize this creature, how efficient! Mrs. Kanagawa is now working on gaining a PhD by researching the subject of defictionalizing brain lurkers from Spartan propaganda of old. As usual science fiction is a great inspiration for young and ambitious scientists!

Lastly there is….

…Loki, the lovable hominid of the Asgard Sapiens species engineered by the bright minds of the Pavlov Labs Genesculpting Institute. The institute aims to create a species of docile and helpful lab assistants with superhuman but ultimately harmless mental capabilities. They can even talk! Let’s find out what Loki has to say.

[transition to interview]

Reporter: Loki, what is your opinion on the current state of planetary politics?

Loki: I believe the Morganic approach to the free market is nonsensical.

Reporter: Yes, we all do believe that. What is your take on Morganic society?

gAJm9yL.png

Loki: They are focused too much on rigging the system for their own gain than on building a truly free society as described by visionaries such as Ron Paul. Thus they are practising an anti-market philosophy where market forces cannot act to create the perfect self-regulating market machine, essentially practising socialism-in-denial. We must abolish all taxes and let free enterprise prosper so that the wealth can trickle down.

Reporter: [laughter] As you can see Loki is quite amusing but the project is far from creating a being that could be called intelligent. You can see all of these and some other interesting specimens created by our geneticists in the new Transgenics Area of the Menagerie, buy a ticket today! It will also let you see mind worms, inferior hominids and revived species from the Homeworld such as the squirrel or the velociraptor!

ITZ happening. Expect more :incline: (read: purging corporate zealots) soon.

Brethren! The Father decrees: these are trying times to be a businessman of faith! Morgan Pinball Palace is still offline, Waifu Droids are being recycled into weapons of war and Morgan Docking has been forced into closure with its 50,000 employees being martyred into business angels. When Zakharov's snazzy navy and cybernetic beasts showed up, some thought it meant the end for our sacred enterprise. To those weak of faith, Father Morgan says - THINK AGAIN!

We're reporting live from Morgan Ocean Dew which stands TRIUMPHANT in the face of the retreating enemy! In a most magnificent miracle of miracles, victory was achieved through spirit-directed unleashing of Morgan BioCorp nerve-agent DOMINATING DAMNATION™ mirroring and providing the scientific explanation for the lovely carnage wrought by the Angel of the Lord upon the invading Assyrian multitude thousands of years ago. As the good book says:

"And it came to pass that night, that the angel of YAHWEH went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses."

-- 2 Kangs - 19:35, Morgan MegaChurch HoloBible

qvgvftL.png

Now as then, the filthy dogs of Ashur were stopped in their tracks! This time, loyal Israelites were even allowed to partake in the slaughter, powerful PROOFS that our divine favour is at an all-time high! While the angel of the Lord worked its lawful Yashua magic upon the assembled seed of Satan, zealous CorpSec Conflict Mediators and blessed Gen-Warriors - swiftly outfitted and funded by emergency donations from our Believing allies - marched out from the gates of Morgan Ocean Dew and delivered spectacular hardcore punishment!

Dumbstruck University despoilers could but watch in horror from aboard their ships as our Gengineered Brotectors walked among the humbled enemy and smashed the skulls, tore off the limbs and mutilated what else remained of the survivors with righteous fury! All available, of course, in glorious 4D-Vision! Make no mistake brethren, we're winning this war - the Paradise of Profit is so close you can almost feel it! VICTORY IS AT HAND!

DDBBCE9.png

Faithful employees should leap at the opportunity to book the Morgan MegaChurch Premium Pilgrimage Trip and worship at the very spot where HEAPS upon HEAPS of foolish University profligates were BRUTALLY BUTCHERED BY THE LORD GOD YAHWEH! Limited time offer, order now!

nwCSV6b.png

Lucky break! Entire invasion stack decimated, collateral damage from nerve gas is some serious juju. Lost count, but I think it was 10 units or so. Only managed to pull it off because I scouted the invasion with a radar jet the turn before and AO sent me all he could spare which I used for field upgrades. Had to tinker quite a bit to make it work, disbanding scouts of similar configuration to afford the cost. Dream Twister also came in handy to tackle the PSI armour defender. Of course these were the scrub units without fusion reactor. If there's a second shipment incoming I could be in yuge trouble.

ZdMUu6d.png

Things are not so hot on the other side though. Grimgravy wiped out my terraforming effort to build a bunker on that strip of land next to his sea base. Killed an awful lot of units, but luckily I could get some of them out the turn before with a transport. He would've probed the base this turn, and there's just no way my land-based artillery can penetrate that fusion battleship. Well, I did the only thing I could to prevent ITZ and retreated inland. Another 50,000 layoffs, ain't safe to be a cubicle thrall these days.

VFMy3FF.png

Also, I managed to probe Grimgravy with a surprise sneak-transport stealing some tech. Moderately useful, but I didn't get fusion power, nor Orbital Space Exploitation which was our target all along. The plan was never to rush the Dream Twister but rather to rush the Space Elevator, which would have been hilarious to snatch for several reasons, not least taking out the University space base with orbital defense pods and dropping scouts on boreholes. It could even have helped turn the tide, but alas, it seems it was not meant to be.

Funny thing is, I thought you could perform targeted tech stealing just like when you specify the target in sabotage missions. If only! Just one of many mistakes this game.

Morgan with 1:1 odds murders my stack...

q9mcuP3.png

...a turn earlier 4:3 and 5:3 odds for plasma gun elite fusion cyborgs result in death on the offence while the defender barely survives :negative:

I wasn't too happy about it but in hindsight I should have expected something like that. This war ain't over yet.

This is Ex Forum, the source for all econ news and developments on Chiron and in the Faction.

GyNa74M.png

The first sol of the V-World open beta has proven to be very popular with the general population. Domed parks have become deserted, corridors quiet and LAN bars depopulated as almost everybody is trying out the ultimate simulacrum of reality in their free time. While currently limited to the 4 test realms developed by the Harmonia Simulated Reality Development studios, it is expected that the recently released documentation and SDKs will help independent developers build their own v-realms, however judging by the numbers even the limited selection of virtual realms is not hindering demand.

At the top when considering popularity is of course “LoversLab Ultimate”, an extremely accurate, not to mention anatomically and neurologically correct simulation of carnal activities. Lots of users jack in with their holobands so that they do not have to jack off. While certain fringe groups have protested the outright pornographic content of the simulation, the developers from the LoversLab team within Harmonia have publicly justified their controversial choice for spending the project budget on such a simulation.

[transition to press conference]

Hideo Ecchi: The only way to make sure the neural feedback interface is correct and that indeed our scientific understanding of what goes on in the brain is correct is to compare all areas of neurological activity to their virtual simulated counterparts. How else can we recreate reality virtually via a neurosimulation? Fornication is after all an important part of our reality, how else would our cities grow so big?

[transition back to studio]

Others prefer the less lustful but still quite exciting realm of “Fallout V-LARP”.

[transition to in-realm footage]

Player 1: I think I heard something…

*gunshots*

*screams*

Player 2: My fucking leg! Oh Sagan it hurts!!! Fuck fuck fuck!

Player 1: Don’t shoot, we surrender!

*Raider emerges from behind the trees*

Raider: Throw down all your valuables and take off all your clothes.

Player 2: DO WHAT HE SAYS!

*Raider unzips pants*

Player 1: But we’re men!

Raider: Everybody is a girl when they are face down, bro.

[transition back to studio]

Well maybe not less lustful. Other realms include “Hieronymus Feldt’s Spaceflight”, developed to help train the future generations of deep space explorers and engineers with the help of the Viceprovost. This realm is strictly moderated unlike Fallout V-LARP due to its scientific purpose.

Lastly there is "Drone Quest", the least intellectual of the realms where the participants can boost their fragile egos by a experiencing a challenge-free string of awesome events reminding them how special and talented they are, despite often being mere drones incapable of being more than organic labour bots. Custodes officers have been critical of this realm as they claim it, quote, “instils rebellious thoughts such as equality between drones and talents in the drone population”. The developers counter it by claiming that it will capture the short attention span of the simple-minded distracting them from actual seditious activity, much needed in an age where Neverdrones Solutions fears bankruptcy due to increasing resistance of drones to conventional nerve stapling techniques.

But as mentioned the entertainment possibilities are limitless and we will no doubt see more V-World realms in the bright future of large scale neurosimulation.

KANAGENE, the startup founded by Mrs. Kanagawa known for her transgenics research, has announced that the first large scale Neo Sapiens cultivation facility will open soon in Climatic Research. The Neo Sapiens is a species of artificial hominids developed by Mrs. Kanagawa who was inspired by old earth media just as it was the case in her prior projects.

MaYSyjY.png

The Neo Sapiens require less sleep, they have no desires but to work as their bodies were designed to release enough dopamine to put them in a state of euphoria whenever performing manual labor or finishing orders, making them vastly superior to drones, especially in a time when conventional nerve stapling techniques have ceased to work.

In fact if the Neo Sapiens do not work they feel depressed and early versions have indeed killed themselves because of having to wait or undergo medical tests instead of working. That bug has since been fixed according to KANAGENE representatives. The impressive behavior programming done by Mrs. Kanagawa and her team on genetic level is quite frankly astounding and likely to earn top scientific awards.

While there is opposition on ethical grounds to creating such intelligent life faction authorities are convinced it is worth the effort, even if it means riots on the streets. It is expected productivity will rise impressively allowing much needed equipment to be manufactured at a higher rate. UniBorg, Korolev Heavy Industries and Von Braun Enterprises have all publicly expressed interest in leasing Neo Sapiens from KANAGENE for use in their manufacturing plants once the technology is proven to be mature enough.

The year is 2243 and it is about time to get the Virtual World, which the Binary Dawn mod pushed beyond fusion power unluckily for anyone playing University, as with the Exowomb and Hab Complexes (always confuse them for hab domes) I lacked drone control to boom beyond size 7 much. Well I had drone control in the form of good old fashioned stapling but it stopped working on the core bases. Budushii Dvor where I built this project actually got immune in the middle of building the V-World and booming, so my plan to boom to size 14 there while building the project kind of failed. Just barely managed to get the local population to work the local borehole, prevent drone riots and not starve to death while building it.

Also I changed my mind on Genejack Factories as 50% more minerals for one drone and some maintenance is a bargain for a big base. Eco damage is an issue even for me though and I expect I will have to switch some tiles around or get specialists to minimize it before I can build some countermeasures. Already got tree farms where it was sensible to get them, time for Centauri Preserves as much as I would rather build other things of the ITZ variety.

On the war front we have Kalin lamenting...

...that we are not raping him yet. GG got the Space Elevator this turn but those Space Hivers ain't dropping on Morgan yet, the corporate purge is still on the table though. But the plan wasn't to have Operation Fedora Tyrant end so rapidly to a sudden doom stack total kill by surprise nerve gas mercenaries, so shit is going slower than expected. So we're LARPing carebears still without major death and destruction happening on Continent Beta.

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire

Min-Ji took a deep breath and tried to remain calm. Try as she might, her heart raced and friendly Locust of Chiron fluttered in the stomach. Today was the day. She had dreamed of this since she was a girl. The Space Elevator was complete, and she was about to ride it! She looked over at her father. He was bigger in her memory, but then she was smaller then. She missed that feeling. Being small. Being safe. She reached out and took his hand with a smile as the doors opened. "This is it!" he said. They boarded with a few others lucky enough to make the trip today. Most of the Space Elevator's capacity was dedicated for satellite construction. A fraction was set aside for the Drop Corp. Min-ji frowned at the thought. The Drop Corp had visited Morgan. She had cried over their loss as a child. As an adult she understood and praised their sacrifice. The new Drop Corp would be visiting Morgan or Miriam using the elevator soon, she was sure: Morgan had build another horrendous PSI machine. Tourism capacity was thus sadly limited. Min-ji pushed those thoughts aside the moment the doors closed. A moment later they were in heaven. The view from the observation post was simply amazing. Min-ji felt small again with Chiron spread out below her. She wished she felt safe, but that wasn't possible until those peanut M&M's had been eaten, turned to dung, and sent to the tanks. She was dedicated to making that happen sooner rather than later.

ITZ coming soon!

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire

--NEWS FLASH---

Chairman Yang goes to church! Not to pray but to raid the offering box, loot sacred texts, and BURN THAT SHIT DOWN!

Hive forces launched a major offensive this cycle. Reports indicate Dominion and Babylon among Believing bases captured. Morgan Megachurch looted and razed.

Reporter: Admiral Yang, General Lee. What can you say about the offensive?
Admiral Yang: It was a good bit of work. We took a risk with the invasion force, but it paid off!
General Lee: Yes, it was a good bit of work, I'd say! Four enemy bases dealt with at a stroke. Prudence kept us from going further.
Reporter: We could have gone further!?
General Lee: Oh yes! The Drop Shocker Corp remains in reserve. They're being upgraded with Awe!

Whew! I had to leave my transports undefended to keep them out of sensor range but close enough to reach the target. I was worried that Kalin or AO would notice them and swarm them with aircraft. Even one defeat would have stopped me from getting to Megachurch. I figured they wouldn't want to use interceptors to scout with threat of my drop troop, so I took the risk. They went unnoticed. Marines with air support took Dominion allowing the fleet to sail in and deploy the rest of my troops. They took Bablylon clearing the way to Morgan Megachurch. With some more air support it was cleared of defenders. The probes did their thing before torching the place. Nerve gas is on both sides of the conflict now. I even dad enough steam to take the base to north as well. God Hand? Drop troops still in reserve. Worms closing in from the far north as well. All in all a good turn.

"...and thus, despite preemptively purging Morgan Megapolis and turning the freshwater lake into a true Sea of Sacrifice, the Master was unwilling to aid us and the enemy managed to disable our air defenses. Our blessed Broliaths and Anti-Air Alphas decimated two full divisions of Hive Drop Shockers, but Father Morgan... They were legion. Our brethren and genejacks fought well, but it was hopeless. To add injury to insult, the nerve gas they stole from us and retro-engineered inflicted massive casualties in the drop zone and talent domes alike."

"Final damage?" Nwabudike Morgan asked calmly.

"Complete destruction of our headquarters, Father Morgan."

"And our counter-attack?" Morgan inquired, a slight hope yet remaining.

"We deployed the elite rover squadrons from Temple of Pain outfitted with the latest nerve agents, but the Hive Mobile Garrisons jammed their comms. We gave them hell, but it was not enough. Our ProsperWave PSI corps did not fare much better. Those Hive Drop Shockers would normally have fallen, but they were equipped with some kind of resonance scrambling technology. Even our Dream Twister could not break their minds."

"Locusts?"

"Inflicted considerable damage, but in the end, they were all shot down by enemy anti-air tracking systems. We only depleted 80% of their forces. They are still there, and we cannot wipe them out, much less subvert them to acquire their fusion and plasma tech. I hate to say it, but Chairman Yang planned it perfectly. We did not anticipate such shrewdness. The operation was a complete failure on our part. Those responsible have been executed in a most painful fashion."

Failure. Defeat. Oblivion.

"As for our allies, House of the Forest still stands, remarkably. Sister Miriam's zealots went out into the fungus and charged three boils, demon-class we believe, and somehow prevailed. Seems to have slowed down the Hive for now, but ultimately they're doomed of course."

"Thank you Simon. Dismissed." Morgan said with a resigned motion.

He never asked for this. Following the extermination of the University invasion, he had allowed himself to dare to dream. The new Creed had been useful - facilities had been scrapped, conveniences rescinded, and a spoiled and pampered population had not only accepted the change but had allowed itself to be turned into a great machinery of war. With the completion of the Cloning Vats, Morgan BioCorp would have delivered force-grown employees by means of the MorgTrak rail system all across the continent. The losses, of course, would have been staggering, but the slaughter would have been but the birth pangs of a new age.

And yet, the age of glorious incline kept eluding him, the project of all projects having been delayed once and again. Despite strenuous Unity pod retrieval and alien archeological missions no useful breakthrough had materialized. Large-scale human cloning remained impossible, and the dream of a society of talents for talents remained just that - a dream, distant and unattainable. What remained in its place was a bizarre mixture of hulking beasts and discontent, subhuman cubicle drones, most of whom had even begun to develop an immunity to Morgan HR's nerve-stapling procedures. His once proud corporate state was now little but a source of disgust, and with the recent military losses and the increasingly looming threat the choice was obvious: corp-wide exterminatus, and consolidating of all remaining forces to Morgan Pharmacon's ITZ bunker.

Glorious attack by Grimgravy after an already excellent strike the turns before. I've sold everything I could to hold back the inevitable. Now ITZ has come and its eating through my bases. Bunkering up and the end is nigh. Remains to be seen if the game is coming to a close or if this is just the beginning of a truly epic war.

"No. Don't say anything. I've disabled your audio and video processing to save power."

The white text begins to flash on the screen.

Is everything okay?

"Yes- maybe. No. Not really. They're cutting power to residential complexes, the streets aren't safe anymore. They stopped serving convenience food number 4. It's hell. Look this may be the last time we get to talk like this."

Don't say that.

"Look, I'm trying my best here, I'll make sure we get a new home somehow. Somewhere safer. I don't have much. I already gave up trying to backup my MorganApp library to make space just for you! So just try to remember me when they go through your data."

Okay. I love you.

"Alright. WaifuApp, transmit to DropBox on the following IP address. Once complete, commence uninstallation and data purge."

The man waited patiently for the progress bar to complete. It'll have to do. Once done, he quickly opens his browser and keyed in the address for the Human Hive Migration Centre website. On the list of attached files, he made sure all the classified corporate files he could get his hands on are attached. Satisfied, he clicked the submit button.

"Fuck you, Morgan. All I wanted is a nice air-conditioned apartment and vidya games."

Almost on cue, the lights dimmed and the air conditioner shuts down. His personal computer powered down in response.

"Cibai lah."

Oi, get back here! I have zoo enclosures to fill!

:rpgcodex:

Now I will have to satisfy myself with Believing specimens, assuming the Hive doesn't get them first. The invasion fleet will probably not get in time to do anything to the ITZ bunker or that other base, at least not judging by the infiltration I have on Morgan*

The whole point of Fedora Tyrant was to probe your bases for nerve gas tech, get infiltration and raze them. The infiltration part worked.

Staying was not part of the plan unless resistance proved light, I wanted to evac the troops if things got hot and use them to help my actual invasions of the believers... which got cancelled because I had to send those troops after Morgan again as I probed genejacks instead of nerve gas (which we needed badly, in the end Hive got it from GGs probing, also learned you can probe tech you have no pre-required techs for) and the fedora tyrant raiders got raped including all my land artillery before I could even decide evac is needed :decline:

Here's hoping I can get the troops to the Believers or ITZ Bunker in time to do anything instead of being denied zealot purging the whole game.

It's over.

There's no way out. He couldn't reach them in time. He jammed the power button again and again, no response.
Despair made way into acceptance: if this is to be the last day of his life, it has to be a slightly enjoyable one.
The absence of light, air conditioning, and video input would make masturbatory acts somewhat hard, not impossible but very hard. He would close his eyes, construct in his mind the imagery of a high ranking female Morgan Executive being beset by the cult of Gaia, forced to give up her high powered business suit, stripped bare in the streets of L(Luxury)-Class Residential Districts, bound by demon boil mind worms as every receptacle on her body is repeatedly occupied and made vacant, the show would parade first around the M(Middle)-Class where her former subordinates gleefully partake, and finally to the S(Servant)-Class residential area, culminating into a full-blown descent into debauchery by genejacks and drones alike.

Sigh

No sign of boner.
The reality is too grim to escape from.
Only one last resort.
He carefully powered his personal communicator device, he's been saving its battery for contact during the planned evacuation, but it's not coming anymore, so why not just indulge the decade-worth of gallery collection he amassed? He swiped his finger, tapping in the access code.

So - what's for today?
Oda-Non?
Crimson Circle?
Or perhaps Cyclone?

Somewhere in one of MorganCorp's M-Class Habitation Complex, one soul is spending his last moments pantless, only to be interrupted by a sudden vibration in his right palm.

Nwabudike Morgan and his partners had not lacked for conveniences following the corp-wide exterminatus. The ITZ Bunker served them well, providing spectacular amenities and housing the greatest achievements of the corporation. Thousands of Morgan's friends, courtesans and top employees were still alive, and for the last Mission Year they had dedicated themselves wholly to enjoying the finer things in life, things which Morgan's once busy schedule had ironically denied him. Personal enlightenment, physical pleasure, monocled PC gaming, 4D-pinball and good old fellowship - a welcome respite from the endless combat reports and emergency orders of the great war. For several months Morgan had even retained the executive marina for quality yachting. Yet as the good book taught, to every thing there was a season, a time for every purpose under the suns. The enemy would reach them eventually, and the allotted time for the least enjoyable event in Morgan's life was fast approaching. He would shirk it no longer.

Even now, the Morgan AstroVision holo-screen in Morgan's luxury suite displayed the latest newsflashes from around the globe, courtesy of the still intact infiltration of the Hive networks. Most of the items centered on Chairman Yang's recent proposal to make himself the supreme leader of mankind. The actual vote was inconsequential, of course - it was nothing but a direct challenge to Zakharov to affirm in action what he had so eagerly preached in his propaganda broadcasts for years on end; complete and utter submission to the Human Hive. As Morgan and his colleagues watched, excitement and outrage suddenly spread among the parroting puppets of the various news outlets. He did not need to unmute them to know why. Zakharov and his lapdog had voted against the Chairman.

"So the old bastard had some guts!" Harrisch said with a chuckle and raised his glass of top shelf Earth whisky. The bottle alone could have bought an entire base or two, but now was as good an occasion as any to enjoy it. "And to think I figured him a senile old betabuxxer! The war will be glorious! Potentially Planet-wrecking."

"Could be, but it's too soon to tell." Korenchkin said. "Perhaps he simply wants to purge Miriam. By the looks of it, they won't last much longer. A shame - they were useful allies."

"No need to worry", Harrisch replied wryly. "The good sister is a true Believer. If that God of her exists, he might just grant her a boon. Why, she might be able to pray down a major asteroid strike on the Hive and University both!"

"Yes, well, be that as it may, I agree that war would be logical", Korenchkin continued. "Under Yang's leadership, Zakharov and Deirdre would have been phased out of history so fast it would've put old Joseph to shame."

"Zakharov is no fool", Morgan said and sipped his drink. "Probably expected to expand for at least another decade though, all while playing the part of a good underling. Well, tough luck! Exterminatus put an end to that."

"Not to mention the prospects of actually winning a battle against us!" Harrisch replied, drawing laughs from the small company. "And hey, so much for putting you in that zoo of his."

"Ah yes. Must be frustrating for him. I'd prefer Yang's punishment sphere, naturally, but fortunately I do not have to choose either. At any rate, neither Zakharov nor Yang wanted our help against the other. I did my best, gentlemen. I can do no other."

"You should come with us to Caerus Complex!" Harrisch said emphatically. "We need you. We look up to you! Anatoly has set up cryogenic facilities down there, a modified design, state-of-the-art PSI prototype. The enemy, they have nothing like our MorgTrak system, and even in peace we might just slip them by! If they go at it, they might just turn Planet into worse a wasteland than old Earth. We could still win this, CEO, reemerge from the ashes a century hence and rebuild Planet!"

"I am tired, old friend", Morgan said apologetically. "I appreciate it, I really do, and I wish you well old chaps, but my course is set. It has been a true pleasure, but now I have my final business to attend to. Gentlemen, a toast! Morgan out!"

Nwabudike Morgan, 245, President, CEO, and majority type B-shareholder of Chiron-based Morgan Industries, venture capitalist and technologist, Father of Morgan MegaChurch, founder, President and CEO of the multi-billion-kwadollar Earth-based mining, escort and mercenary corporation, Morgan Industries, all-around monocled gentleman, has died.

Lost forever is his bounty of knowledge concerning Human Nature, Genetics, the Free Market and the Art of the Deal, the depth and breadth of which could, as he was apt to say, "fill several holo books". Also lost forever are Morgan's singular personality, force of will, vision, charisma and leadership ability. The probability of an equally capable figure emerging from the current communist-plagued factions to lead mankind to a future of equivalent quality is less than 0.0001488% by objective measures too complex to detail in this obituary.

Personality and force of will: Born in Kenya of African royalty, Morgan reinvested his family wealth to sell weapons during the Sahara Burst Wars, allowing for the purchase of a private mercenary force to claim a series of diamond mines from a defeated enemy nation. By 2058, Morgan was certain that war would soon devastate the planet. At great personal expense, he ensured the completion and success of the sprawling Unity Project, trading his wealth for a ticket to Alpha Centauri. The expedition was a resounding success, and all of humanity on Chiron owes their lives to Morgan. Talk about vision!

Leadership: On Planet Morgan built a glittering utopia of pleasure, profit and progress for his shareholders. He engineered the destruction of the Spartan menace achieving 100% of the conquests of Spartan bases in the Great War. In his capacity as Planetary Governor he also brought untold wealth and prosperity to mankind.

While Morgan's achievements yielded many immediate benefits, they were all part of his master plan to re-ignite mankind's quest for a truly global Free Market and uninhibited genetic advancement, a plan without which the human species has nowhere to go, and nowhere to turn.

Recognized to be mankind's only hope of long-term survival and evolution towards greatness, Morgan's passing may well sound a death knell for the entire human species.

For Ida Westgard it was sol 1327 at Camp Fleming, cycle 149 after planetfall. When looking at her subordinates she could not shake the feeling that the boredom was almost palpable. Many of them have spent cycles here together with her, training and waiting for the day that never came, the day when they would do their part in ensuring justice and progress reign supreme on Planet.

She noticed two legionnaires were tinkering with their combat gear.

“I would like to remind you that tampering with standard issue equipment is punishable with nerve stapling or worse, depending on the damage suffered by that equipment.” She scolded the soldiers in the most neutral manner one could imagine; even she stopped caring about performing her duties with the utmost respect. No wonder the lower ranks became unruly, an army just falls apart with no enemy to fight and with no threat waiting to kill the soldiers that compose it.

“It is not like Morgan’s mercs will come out of the fungal woodwork and kill us, they’re all bunkered up in their last stronghold. This war is over, they should send us back home,” a trooper whined.

“STRATCOMM will send us back home when they issue such an order, until that time we stay put,” Ida said with conviction.

“The desk jockeys probably forgot to hit send on the message and thought we already left,” a snarky legionnaire replied.

“Orders are orders and the chain of command must be obeyed, it is not our place to decide where we are stationed and for how long during a state of war soldier! Am I clear!”

‘Yes ma’am!” The legionaries answered together.

“Good, now put those tools away and…”

The base suddenly fell silent, the soldiers which just a mere moment ago were busy loitering around aimlessly in a war against boredom all froze as if someone started testing cryogenic weaponry on them. Their HUDs and comm systems were all displaying the same message.

Citizens, scholars, talents and even drones. As you know the Morganic threat has been eliminated, the zealot lackeys are also almost dead. A new age of peace, prosperity and progress is dawning. But this is not the end of our great work. Progress is built after all on great thoughts and great deeds. Just a decisol ago by my order with great precision and coordination the great deeds have become fact, our Science Legion begun operation Kurgan, for there can be only one faction on Planet guiding humanity. This faction of course cannot be the Hive lead by the regressive despot worshipping one of the worst ideologies of old earth. Yang’s mindless minions, the horde of nationalistic drones that occupies and misuses such wonders as the Space Elevator cannot be let to roam planet unrestrained restricting creativity, progress, freedom of information and freedom of knowledge.

Logic and rationalism dictate that only our faction, the University, can be the master of mankind’s destiny. Only we can use the prize of knowledge effectively. Therefore the Hive’s totalitarian regime straight out of dystopian fiction of old has to be decapitated, the party and its chairman captured or terminated and its people liberated, deprogrammed and given a new purpose in the one true future for humanity. One where people like me, the viceprovosts, our top talents or lady Deidre lead humanity to a golden future transcending beyond our limitations. Only when we eliminate the last regressive ideology that belongs in the history books can our species achieve its true potential focusing on the future, focusing on the golden destiny of progress and transcendence!

giphy.gif

Operation Kurgan has begun, our foe's power projection has been decapitated. There can be only one! Hive delenda est, Yang delenda est!

Provost Zakharov special streamed address to the Citizens on D-Sol shortly after zero decisol of Operation Kurgan, Cycle 2251

In a stunning first strike the forces of progress have managed to secure much terrain on the Hive mainland. The biggest strategic gain is the swift capture and demolition of the Space Elevator, preventing Hive attacks from orbit on our territory.

The number of military assets involved in the operation is unlike anything Planet has ever seen. It is expected that while Hive resistance will be fierce the technological, organization and numerical superiority of the science legion guarantees the victory of progress.

woZ7YkM.png

The forces all gathered around the Maritime Institute which was disguised to seem like a harmless, albeit fairly close to hive shores, deep sea research base defended only by the Unity class dreadnought “Unity” itself. The Unity was relocated west from Solaris Mare following the shocking defeat of the Fedora Tyrant raiding task force. Other naval forces replaced it in the assignment of supporting future invasions of Morganic territory that never came to be due to the desperate and cowardly scorched earth operation of CEO Morgan prior to him going into hiding.

Jc76Klz.png

A covert operation performed by Custodes Field Operatives paved the way for a ground assault that utilized "Purging Agent Candidate 2" nerve gas. Operatives eliminated Hive secret police, sabotaged key infrastructure and deployed the "Nurgle" transgenic virus to further wreck havoc in the base weakening its defenders and defences before the assault of our cyborg infantry.

AeCS5gR.png

Finally the Custodes Operatives have stormed the orbital anchor of the space elevator, set up charges and evacuated in the escape pods, after killing all hive personnel onboard using nerve gas injected into the life support system of the anchor station.

While STRATCOMM and the Provost did confirm that the establishment of a base so close to the Hive shore a cycle earlier was risky and expected a reaction such as a Hive first strike or the Hive to bolster its defences in the area as a preventive measure, it appears the Hive military leadership was too drunk celebrating victory over Morgan to consider the possibility of an attack and to see the sea base suddenly appear near them, just as the audacious Supreme Leadership proposal vote by Yang was called, as a threat. Yet another logical reason why the Hive is not fit to lead mankind into the transhuman age.

Reports confirm that a large part of Hive forces is stuck on Continent Beta further decreasing odds of Hive counter offensive. Markets reacted positively to the news of the destruction of the Space Elevator breaking new records and ensuring that our economy and industry eclipse the debatable achievements of Yang’s communal nightmare, thanks to recent pro-efficiency mixed market reforms emphasizing fungal exploitation and waste reduction.

In other news the Zha'ha'dum Mare fleet has finally found and engaged the rumoured Believing submarine transports. The majority of the armed zealots on board have sunk together with their mindworms, colonization crew and one of the submarines. The other vessel barely escaped but Gaian air patrols have been sent out to look for it and sink it.

pdgCodJ.png

It is estimated only 2 companies of zealots armed with nerve gas and 2 SAM batteries survived, representing about half of the initial force. They are however badly damaged as is their vessel after the rocket barrage by the Pioneer class Missile Frigate "UNV Westwood".

I am indeed going for a carebear co-op victory, only with Brozil :obviously: It will be quite ironic if we pull this off, considering Brozil got conquered first and restarted, only to get attacked again and reduced to two bases

Managed to save him yet again from AO's plot to gas and murder him on this turn. Technically the last sub could escape but it is so badly damaged it can't run far and my ships will find it sooner or later. That is if Brozil doesn't sink it with his new Plasma Nerve Gas fusion needlejet.

But now for the stuff you are probably more interested in.

zhPF4tO.png

The map of the combat area from one turn ago - turn 150, Yang just called the supreme leader vote to which I had to vote nay and I had to attack soon as it was obvious what my intention were. My forces departed from Fort Fleming a turn earlier as Morgan killed almost all his bases then and I knew I had to act fast. Settled a sea base to prevent my forces from getting teleported back when either GG or I would break pact in turn 151. The Hive bases Manufacturing Warrens and Factory Maze are no more after liberal use of nerve gas and some gene plague, finally a chance to do some atrocities myself.

The attack on the elevator did not go 100% according to plan but the goal was achieved, the elevator was trashed before Yang could react and I can now fight the Hive on my terms. This was planned for a while now but was not so much my original plan after Santiago went poof.

Long story really, after Santiago hero’d herself the biggest threat was Morgan. Kalin is crafty and I knew he was gunning for both the Planetary Transit System and the Cloning Vats (even if he did not tell me this I knew he would, his tech path was only useful for both) which would let him win the game if left untouched. My initial plotting was figuring out how I could obliterate the cloning vats as soon as he builds it. I also hoped the Hive would attack him sooner or later due to proximity and the two would tie each other up in an apocalyptic war of attrition while I gain the tech and industry lead needed to take out the victor.

But then Miriam decides to take out the Gaians and Morgan is helping her. I thought he wants to take me out via conquered Gaian turf, using the fact they have jets, air superiority and nerve gas while I have few troops (scrapped them for the MCC project). If the Hive was on their side, I was fucked. So I offered to be his loyal lapdog, vote for Yang in all votes up to and including supreme leader, give all my tech (via probing, to disguise the tech transfer and because sunspots were still hindering diplomacy at the time) and stop building the ascetic virtues or any other projects the Hive wanted.

I had nothing to lose but the tech edge and a few projects, in the long run we are all dead and all that. I would stay loyal and keep my word if I was in no position to challenge him.

What I gained was a secure flank and guaranteed commerce. And as the Hive is closer the front would shift there. Worst case scenario M&M would kill me and the Hive would not want or be able to stop them, so surrendering didn’t matter if this was the fate of the University. Second worst case scenario I survive but cannot pose a threat to the Hive anyway after corporate zealot organized ITZ, so I would get stomped and it’s better to just end the game. Best case scenario I am in a position to take the Hive out if I prevent corporate ITZ.

M&M fucked up because they did not plan for total war with me when they attacked the Gaians, meanwhile my war economy also lead itself nicely into a blob and pop boom strategy without having to switch, only possible because this mod moved fungus production bonuses from tech way earlier really buffing green and planned economy. I managed to catch up to the Hive in pop and surpass them thanks to it, especially after I snatched the exowomb and thus hab complexes from an artifact finally allowing me to boom to size 14 in the core bases. All fuelled by fungus and forests with tree farms.

The Space Elevator was an unforeseen consequence of my tech gifting. My hope of taking Yang out had almost died, I would need everything covered in aerospace complexes. Taking it out in a surprise first strike seemed to be impossible… until GG for some reason unknown to me decided to switch the inland location of the Space Elevator work in progress with the near-coastal base that was building the Bose-Einstein Condensate (vanilla Supercollider) and rush that condensate inland, finishing the elevator later in that almost coastal base. Bad idea.

I have no idea what he was thinking when he decided that. At the very least he could have used the earlier elevator to get more power satellites up, the supercollider/condensate is a junk project. He just put his biggest weapon and tool of power projection one tile away from the sea. I looked at the options I had and Operation Kurgan was born, a distant relative of Operation Black Friday from PBEM game 2. Use the sea proximity for a first strike against the most problematic secret project to castrate the enemy’s defensive and offensive potential, hopefully catch the target with his pants down. The original plan was to take and hold the elevator but due to various factors which I will not reveal now I decided to just raze it, less risky in the long run. Actually didn't even need to raze it by putting troops inside, virus and two gas attacks annihilated the population anyway erasing the base from the map and the elevator with it.

Well it is a GG from GG, Hive went sudoku on its turn, guess I really got the element of surprise.

Even if AO wants to fight to the last with his 6 or something bases we might as well start the new game now as it will not take much longer, as GG didn't kill anything so I can just send the Kurgan task force against AO in 4-6 turns to purge him. Can't call the supreme leader vote as I did not steal the tech that allows it and did not even infiltrate the Hive last turn for that matter :MWould take longer to tech to it than purging AO as you will see below.

Usury is setting up a new game with an update to his mod we used here. I called dibs on Lal, since he always sucked except the game where Brozil played him. But there I saw how good he was getting so I stole his clay and good bases since he was next to me and would just overtake me eventually.

:M

Want to make the UN great again in any case.

I will post a proper victory update later but for now here's a sneak peek of the forces I had (more details and full Hive vs Uni military stats in the victory update) and some comments:

ZfSbprH.png

3 Ariane Class AAA Submarine Cruiser Transports, all but one elite (some bug fails to add morale to units built before a switch to power) they were actually upgraded hastily a turn earlier from Soyuz class, Saturn V class and Falcon 9 class transports. Did a mass upgrade via the unit designer.

2 loaded to the brim with 8-2 fusion infantry with nerve gas plus a few 6 defence AAA defenders and the revolutionary AAA psi defence trooper design which I invented for the initial defence of myself and Brozil against gas (they wreck nerve gas jets/copters on defence, always 2:1 odds for them before planet/morale and prevent gas deployment as it is not allowed in Psi combat, so no pop damage!)

Only one of these transports had to in the end attack the elevator and only 2 troopers had to do it, still had 3 or 4 spare on the same transport.

The other transport would finish the job if needed, 6 or 7 more gas troopers, including only one marine, and defenders. In the end I sent it south to later go west after the Hive capital itself as the elevator went down more easily than expected. Would have mass upgraded troopers to marines now on turn 152 if the Hive was still around.

Last transport was full of probes, 5 of them, 2 died attacking the single elite fusion probe GG had at the elevator. First to actually probe went for random sabotage, usually this prioritize defence facilities in my experience but this time it took out the local crèche, went in again with random sabotage and this took down the perimeter. Last probe introduced a gene plague but it did jack shit to the units inside of the base because of the research hospital there, it did reduce the pop. I didn't get infiltration, if I knew that the gene plague would do shit I would go for that.

3 Pioneer Class missile cruisers with SAM/radar and fusion, one sank GGs boat blocking the one tile entrance to the bay. The two other tried to barrage the base to damage the troops inside but got cockblocked by Hive artillery. What surprised me was how good Hive artillery was on defence, did almost no damage to it. This just like the gene plague also failed to damage the defenders enough, if I didn't sabotage the perimeter I guess I would just brute force gas the base until it died losing a bunch of troops.

A Unity Class 8-6 elite fusion radar/AAA cruiser. It babysat the Maritime Institute mostly, earlier it guarded my last isle of the deep (only built two) when it was 90% damage after gaining an artefact when it was healing (even earlier it aided Fedora Tyrant and retreaded after shameful defeat of the ground troops). The isle itself sent my probes to Morgan that got caught by him, ever since then it just popped pods near the crater isle, south-west of the geothermal sea. Mostly though it popped isles which it killed barely surviving and spent 3-4 turns on repairing, at this point it was still 4 turns away from actually getting the artefact to a network node.

Lastly there were two BFR class Submarine Carriers with 6 defence (AAA I think would be better than sub for them, also the interface has issues accepting the design but after some button mashing it seem to work, could be a bug), each could carry 8 jets total but I did not have the time to fill them with that many. They are in the far right where the "L" loaded jets can be seen.

They got half filled so had 8 total on those two, mostly gas jets with 2 regular ones I upgraded last turn after the attack to gas via the designer (either there or on the 3rd carrier which was heading to purge Morgan). In fact when Kalin sudoku'd his corporate empire they were collecting planes off my shore and had to be rushed to aid the operation at all. Originally they were supposed to do a first strike on Manufacturing Warrens paving the way for ground troops, brute force through AAA if needed (there was no aerospace complex there).

In the end the jets were just barely in range to attack Factory Maze as I had to take the long way around to avoid deportation when the pact broke. Lost one jet, because it landed on the carrier the turn before and did not refuel to full yet (probably it landed on fumes originally). Still an improvement over not knowing how the fuck carriers work and crashing all my air units in prior games when trying them out.

All in all this represented between 50 to 60% of my offensive forces. The rest was mostly supposed to go after Morgan and the minority was stationed around my turf to counter orbital insertions should Yang break pact first and attack.

Power graph on the turn of the attack:

1E9yQUQ.png

GG didn't fall behind me because of the war, for a long time when I was building units just after the second gaian war broke out he was focusing on facilities etc. I think the issue was it was easier for me to grow despite the war and I knew how to catch up. Also I really said fuck it to most facilities and just relied on psych budget (stapling before it) and built the bare essentials to grow more, GG meanwhile built a lot of those and eclipsed me in lab output. If it wasn't for pod popping with 9 movement cruisers that ignore fungus due to the xenodome and the artefacts they found my tech would be a joke, such was the price of war.

I would love to participate in the next game if there are any spots over. To play Miriam would be a dream come true, but any faction would do~

Would be swell, but see this pizza_microwave guy wanted in and has been waiting patiently for over a month. Might still have a spot open though but that depends on Grimgravy. He has been awol since before we posted the new game conversation, probably working on getting drunk since it's the weekend, but obviously he will get a shot at retribution if he wants it.

Also a most excellent victory by Hellraiser, he really had us fooled for quite some time acting all defeatist and sticking to his disgusting Care Bear story. I almost thought he had gone mad from drinking soy products or something. Well, now the mask is off and the real samurai is here.

From our end, we actually tried to surrender and offered to help exterminate Hellraiser and Brozil in what might have been a glorious war. This was the turn before the Space Elevator went up and it was obvious we were done for anyway. By then we still retained nerve gas monopoly, so Gravy could have used the Elevator to assault Hellraiser with gas drop troops. Looked like it might have worked to me because there were several gaps in Hellraiser's base placement, but I lacked infiltration all game so it's possible it was already too late and he would be able to contain the attack. In any case he rejected the offer, preferring to trust Hellraiser to honour his surrender.

For once, the in-game stats could not be more accurate:

RKlTv3B.png

:lol::salute:

Really enjoyed this game, full of surprises and a great way to get back into SMAC. The mod is lovely too, perfect for PBEM matches. Gravy fought well and did fine tactically, but strategically it was a bad move to let Hellraiser outgrow him. Oh yeah, and the match hasn't quite ended yet by the way, agentorange is still resisting to the last. Like I said in shoutbox though, I don't think he has much of a chance unless he calls a vote for Supreme Leader and Lord God confounds Hellraiser so he misclicks.

Yeah, gotta purge Miriam now. ITZ bringers are swimming to continent beta (again). GG gave AO all his tech as a parting gift so now he has fusion and plasma guns to fight back with, but only 3 bases. Martyrdom awaits Miriam, by the end of next week it should be over.
