Here, obviously
Cassidy, what type of troops do you normally put in a stack? I see that one of your fighting stacks has about equal parts artillery and infantry. Is that the best? I have always wondered what would be the most efficient composition.

50/50 infantry/artillery, with up to 4 cavalry, seems to be the right mix for filling your battlefield slots. Exactly how many depends on your present level of tech and what "front size" that entails. Using more results in units sitting there with dumb looks on their faces, unable to attack because they are cockblocked by their teammates, possibly preventing the "right" units from getting to fight at all.

Later on you get Tanks and Planes, and those work very differently: Although tanks are classified as an artillery unit on the build and numbers lists, they do not ACT like artillery units on the battlefield, instead taking up line infantry slots, functioning as an assault version of Infantry for when you attack, whereas Infantry have better stats on defense. So when you are attacking, you use tanks instead of infantry, and infantry on defense. Guards are basically Infantry++, and you switch to them once you can afford them. Planes are just downright weird, since they drive around with your army like they're cars or something, rather than flying, and I have no idea what they do. Engineers are also weird, and I have no idea what they do either. You'd think they'd be a siege unit, but they don't appear to improve capture speed at all.

I had no chocie about that doomstack. Every time they mobilize, they spawn all at the same province. Meanwhile, to save money I had to make the mobilized forces no longer needed ASAP.

Proclamation Day

Men of Honor

YuQ3H.jpg

Once again, despite all political reforms, malcontents rise against the legitimate rule. They cannot be allowed to destroy everything Rio Grande do Sul achieved!

cGng4.jpg

The Republic gained some prestige from their participation in the World Fair in Kwa.

7xAUN.jpg

Probably because they failed to win legitimately, they tried to overthrow the government violently, but they will not win.

EmPqr.jpg

The Frenchies once again were wiped out, total victory getting closer than ever.

sQutR.jpg

After the development of bolt-action rifles, improvement of government capabilities would proceed.

TE4kk.jpg

The treatment of the wounded in the war, already greatly bolstered by the still ongoing development of modern medicine, is becoming even better, ensuring less devastating and permanent casualties.

QThhp.jpg

Slowly, order is being established over the territories which fell to the Jacobins.

SmTEM.jpg

Even as they continued fighting the good fight, the first bolt-action rifles began to be deployed.

PVmdC.jpg

And finally, the war justification was done by June of 1863. Now, they must crush Brazil sufficiently to convince them to give in.

HrSM2.jpg

The war was costly to the Republic, in more than one way. The economy was seriously harmed by the naval blockaded, and as the income went on red, the government had no choice but to cancel all subsidies to the existing factories. Major unemployment was a consequence, but at this point there was nothing that could be done. They were running out of funds. This war must end soon.

tqEFs.jpg

Despite all their victories, while the coffers of the State were about to run dry, the Frenchies and Brazilians continued to refuse their demands. So be it, even if they end with a nasty debt, they won't make any lesser compromise than to have the entirety of Southern Brazil!

vTHz7.jpg

Just what they needed as they began to have no choice but to get loans to carry on with the war. The Entre Rios rebellion claimed to stand for democracy, but they were a presidential dictatorship which made the whole deal particularly not what Rio Grande do Sul was expecting when the rebels first asked for their aid against the dictatorship.

alwoE.jpg

Only in 1864, after several territorial conquests, the Republic achieved its objectives in one of the most important victories in its history, but now there was another war going on.

lsAbE.jpg

Meanwhile, on Europe...

For the disgust of the Russians and specially of the Serbians, it was decided to keep the worst turk idiot strong in spite of constant agitation against their subjugation of the peoples in the Balkans.

KE2Tb.jpg

Severely indebted, and realizing Entre Rios was winning the war, they hoped they could sign a white peace before the increasing debts could lead to bankrupcy. Thus peace was signed to allow the country to recover from the devastating war they just went through.

ThEqh.jpg

More medical developments.

MJCbT.jpg

Some foreign corporations invested in the country, but slowly they started to boldly go on an entitlement of seizing lands from locals and demanding greater and greater privileges. NO MORE! The patriotic Republican Party denounced such corporations as new colonialists and justified their act based upon the abuses they thought they could commit just because they invested in the country. Thus, all foreign railroad companies were forcefully nationalized, which echoed in some Kwan baaaw, of course, but to hell with being a colonial bitch!

On the same time, a formal system of passports was established, which would hopefully make immigration to the country even more attractive.

oy1sS.jpg

In September, at last they managed to repaid their debts, which were burdening the country with their high interests. The economy was recovering, the industries rising again from the ruins. A lesson was learned: they may not win the war with a navy, but they can seriously hurt the country with their blockades. With the debts over, the emergency tariffs were abolished.

4oPc0.jpg

They never learn. Once the situation stabilizes, now that they have become something greater than just Rio Grande do Sul, it will be the time for a very important proclamation.

gPWRd.jpg

Reforms continue being approved whether or not the damn Jacobins will launch their suicidal rebellions.

QV0Y0.jpg

The once terribly backwards freed states are slowly becoming more modern and industrialized.

OADV7.jpg

Sociological development carries on, bolstering population growth while the consciousness of the people only increase with every achieved conquest and every advance.

hHRsp.jpg

In spite of being a democracy, the Republic is still deeply religious, and thus Clericalism becomes a dominant idea.

f5Hct.jpg

And once again, despite being far from authoritarian, the Republic gains the development of a Establishment rather than of a better form of political organization.

ctoea.jpg

To move Brazil towards a better degree of development is the white gaucho's burden, to stand for the future, to look inwards rather than outwards to Africa and backwards civilization the Republic are better off not getting involved with, is their manifest destiny and their call. And a new idea is growing now, one that will change the continent forever.

C4cw0.jpg

Later, in contrast to the Establishment, more fitting political developments happened making the bureaucracy more fair, with government employees appointed through merit instead of nepotism and politics. A great achievement to modernize the country.

5p3n3.jpg

The structures of the State have been recently modernized, as no longer a single state, but many, Rio Grande do Sul deserves to be something more, while their mighty army continues to carry on as a state-of-art military, with the most advanced tactics and equipment. There won't be many more conflicts, for soon, this will all be over.

PWRkg.jpg

In March of 1866, it became something greater than Rio Grande do Sul. The Republic was self-proclaimed as the legitimate government of Brazil, and now made their goals quite clear: to unite the Brazilian people under the flag of liberty, equality and humanity rather than under a flag of slavery, despotism and backwardedness. Once Bolivia takes back their rightful territory, then there will be only one war left to be fought by the Brazilian Republic, and from it, only one Brazil shall remain, one where all men shall be free!

TO BE CONTINUED.

The red in our flag is casting a stronger shade

Socialismo

Zh4ce.jpg

An old general, veteran of the previous war against Brazil, is appointed as prime minister.

ydAE3.jpg

In a move towards a better life for the people, a small social security net is established, in part due to the pressure of the extremely respected war veterans. Although the pensions started as minuscle, at least they will prevent poor old people from dying in the gutter and give them some dignity after all they worked for the country.

GpY7M.jpg

As the focus now shifted to the improvement of education and administration, immigration became less intense, but it still is responsible for a significant portion of the population growth in the country.

vj7xm.jpg

On Asian News, in 1867 Japan has been completely united under a Shogun, and is undergoing a process of "westernization", so to speak. Kwanzania has managed to put this country under their sphere of influence, a country which has access to some valuable and rare resources like silk, critical in the luxury clothing industry.

DHAzi.jpg

:hmmm:

A growing anti-clerical movement emerges as a scandal of pedophilia spreads over Rio Grande do Sul. Several who seek to completely eradicate the influence of the Church over politics, particularly the increasingly popular socialist party of the Colorados, use such scandal to promote the idea the Church is better off without any temporal power. Of course, such developments cause immense butthurt among reactionaries, but is there any moment when they aren't butthurt?

gwj5P.jpg

1867 was a great year for Democracy: not only it has been restored in Paraguay, but also, Entre Rios made justice to their declared goals, and thus Argentina has become free.

WexNv.jpg

socialism_poster.jpg

The elections of 1867 were the most ideologically loaded in the entire history of the Brazil. Slowly, but significantly, the socialists were gaining ground, specially among the poorer, while, driven by a strong ideological barrier, "solutions" that involved Lithuanian hitmen were promptly dismissed, to the disgust of the usual suspects of the Western Civilization Defense Squad.

Kr3ni.jpg

The conservatives won again, in spite of how these elections featured one of the most important reforms: universal suffrage, but the balance was shifting against them, no longer able to win through absolute majority. The Colorados gained a lot of voters, but far from enough to stand a chance of achieving socialism through elections rather than more revolutionary means. Nevertheless, socialism was on a growing trend in the country, and due to the greater ethics of the existing government, they didn't resort to dirty methods like hiring of Lithuanian Hitmen or oppression to stop it. After all, that goes against the very ideals of liberty and democracy their very country rose from.

c978B.jpg

With Democracy secured over most of South America, a major alliance was established between Bolivia, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, BEST BRAZIL and the odd one, Chile, which became an absolutist monarchy. WORST BRAZIL cannot be allowed to exist much longer, but first, what Bolivia lost must be regained.

Qvxua.jpg

The military of BEST BRAZIL continues to expand, as the least it takes for the war to end, the better.

Jrh1o.jpg

Optimization of the army continues, their forces being arguably the most advanced of the world.

6uakf.jpg

In 1868, the Brazilian Republic signed the Geneva Conventions, for the good of their own soldiers.

nZN9V.jpg

A proper bureaucracy is also developed, and hopefully it won't end with a looooooot of red tape, hopefully.

NmNdA.jpg

Don't blame me for this horrible pun.

:M

djmfT.jpg

As they researched all military fields, research shifted towards economical and industrial fields.

L8GNV.jpg

Bolivia must have back their rightful land.

lQdJl.jpg

To either LIBERALS or socialists, the conservatives continue to lose followers.

6s3ID.jpg

And thus, it began.

TUe1c.jpg

The superiority of BEST BRAZIL was uncontested.

rzXaS.jpg

And strategic mistakes by the WORST BRAZIL make it even greater.

PsZbh.jpg

Freedom is not free. Many shall stand against the Republic, and thus they cannot afford to develop arts. They must prioritize improvement over their military first and foremost to ensure they will always prevail.

3hcxE.jpg

And that they won't run out of cash either before the war is over.

BtnWg.jpg

While their war continue undisputedly victorious, news came on the construction of the Suez Channel, which will definitively give much prestige to those responsible. And perhaps, considering that to reach the Pacific currently it is necessary to go all the way South, Panama might be a good spot for another channel. BEST BRAZIL is not very far from being considered a Great Power, and were them to construct such a marvel of engineering, to secure such a status forever.

en0SZ.jpg

One of the first political achievements of the socialist movement was their successful pressure for reforms that shall lead to a system of public education where all, from the poorest to the richest, will have the right to education. Likewise, thanks to this, literacy in the country would increase faster, which is of course very important for their future. The war continued successful, the rising military and economical power of the Americas once again proving they are the BEST BRAZIL, and about to be considered a Great Power in the eyes of the world.

Damn Frenchies. Were not for them I could probably have ended everything in the first war.

Republican Brazil, a Great Power

SJQap.jpg

WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW, FROG?

NQQ5Q.jpg

The enemies of Democracy are being pursued through the Brazilian countryside, defeated and crushed again. At this point there was no doubt on how freeing all of Bolivia was not enough.

t0D0O.jpg

São Paulo is not exactly densely populated, but it may become an excellent magnet for more immigrants, while making the purpose of LIBERTY even more defined, as the emancipation of all slaves in Brazil is another of the many reasons they are fighting this war.

1xc8a.jpg

artillery-somme.jpg

The vast superiority of the Republican Brazil Army was achieved thanks to their innovative if expensive military organization. 1:1 infantry to artillery ratios ensured maximum concentrated firepower on the front, the barrages blotting even the sun as those who had to face such formidable armies took devastating casualties from the thousands of shells that rained day and night. The artilleryman is as important as the frontline soldier, and new military developments are making such importance even greater.

fXGVf.jpg

Perhaps they were too distracted in smoking Aganja to have a chance of victory.

:yeah:

(I know this is a horrible pun, but I couldn't resist)

pIe59.jpg

The other countries involved, realizing who they were messing with, agreed to peace. The only country who may defy Republican Brazil at this point is Kwanstain, but they have no reason to do so when even the second greatest power of the world was twice crushed by the brave free Brazilians.

QeJXQ.jpg

This has been more like how things went for France in WW2 so far. Lots of white flags for everyone!

5x1zs.jpg

The development of organic chemistry will be critical to eradicate such a terrible disease from the greatest country of South America, but for now, nothing can be done besides quarantines.

mcdVY.jpg

A starting knowledge of genetics and hereditary diseases has been achieved, which will allow for even greater population growth due to its applications in preventive medicine

quK2Y.jpg

In March 23rd, 1871, the entirety of existing French and Brazilian armies over South America has been completely crushed. Most importantly, the status of Republican Brazil as the newest Great Power was secured, and thus they began to exert influence over their neighbors except for those who must be wiped from the map, because there can be only one Brazil, a Brazil founded upon similar ideals to those that led to the dawn of the United States of Kwanzania, that paved the way for them to become a Great Power, has now, even before they have achieved a complete liberation of their nation against the reactionary monarchy, given them their place in the sun and in the History of the World. For like Kwa' when they were in their early rise, Republican Brazil has equally become a Great Power, and unlike Kwa, they are only inclining so far rather than declining, and they have never betrayed the ideals of their founding fathers like Bento Gonçalves, never fighting unjust and imperialistic wars, only fighting for Democracy, to restore the sovereignty of conquered peoples and to eradicate slavery from this world. Can there be any doubt now on which is the best future for the people of Brazil?

L2PC4.jpg

Some commies began to pressure for a minimum wage, but the lolbertarians were stronger and managed to win the DISCUSS!!! on the matter, arguing a minimum wage would increase unemployment and hurt the country's economy to an extent it would make everyone poorer, copypasting mises.org and other usual sources in a very Wyrmlordian way.

z4l6W.jpg

The legitimacy of the Republic as the rightful government of the entire Brazilian nation has only grown, and moralists are actively supporting the war efforts with donations, reducing the war exhaustion.

DKNJo.jpg

pyramid_of_capitalist_system.png

In the State of Paraná, a major syndicalist union is established while several less than savory aristocrats suggest deploying the army. Being a beacon of liberty, they refuse the idea, for the soldiers of the country will never turn their arms against freedom.

Px3Q9.jpg

Due to its initial establishment as state-owned companies, the industrial economy of the Republic naturally developed itself towards monopolization. This monopoly structure was one of the primary targets of socialist criticisms and a major rallying point for the syndicalists to stand against.

myA1W.jpg

As a Great Power whose position may be lost later, Brazil must not stay behind in the latest moneysink for prestige. Of course they sent an expedition to try finding the source of the Nile.

bI1ji.jpg

In September of 1871, with the development of an Army Risk Management system and of superior tactics, attention was shifted towards the eradication of many deadly diseases that the development of organic chemistry would ensue, giving another boost to population growth. Of particular interest was the hopes of development a vaccine for cholera.

cY8Yt.jpg

Once again they didn't manage to become the hosts of the World Fair, but on the other hand, their exhibit in London was very impressive. Their medical, industrial, economic and military achievements became the source of all attention, specially the displays on their victory against the French, which many Brits enjoyed looking at for a good laugh, and at the paintings of their first two wars in awe of how they managed to win at such odds. It was so attention-drawing that the very hosts of the event, the British Empire, failed to drawn enough attention for their country exhibit. Perhaps it is the fact they have been in popamole forever, fighting wars only against country infinitely weaker, never ever having any hard time.

GpjlH.jpg

In 1872 a new radical ideology was formed. The communists denounced the democracy of the west as a fraud, a wrapping to disguise an ugly oligarchy, claiming that the only way for the workers to emancipate is through a violent revolution for the establishment of a "dictatorship of the proletariat". The potential threat of this new ideology is great, but it remains to be seen whether it will gain a significant following or not.

E3uAQ.jpg

Only by November, after occupying nearly the entirety of Imperial Brazil and about to occupy the French Guyana, the Republic finally managed to convince them to cede to their demands. It would be over soon now, because there would be only one more war, and then the nation would be united under the BEST government.

zN0MH.jpg

Taking advantage of their newfound status as a Great Power, the Republic was building a sphere of influence all over South America, country by country. Considering the idea of the Panama channel, they began to go for Colombia shortly after Paraguay was secured under their influence, as their own cattle would supplement their local production to supply their charque factories if needed.

Utt77.jpg

The country continues to evolve, ideas developing themselves towards new and sometimes dangerous directions, like the concept of Revolution and Counterrevolution that will eventually be developed. Hopefully a vaccine for cholera will be achieved soon, saving countless lives.

u6yxh.jpg

The developments of chemistry begin to also bring major benefits for agriculture.

They have grown, they have prospered, they have flourished.

3V9Fh.jpg

And once the truce is over, then at last, let there be only one Brazil, one where all Brazilians once held as slaves or political prisoners shall henceforward and forever be free!

LIBERTY, EQUALITY AND HUMANITY SHALL PREVAIL UPON SOUTH AMERICA!

Is it OK to admit that I was a bit disappointed by this update? I'd hoped you were going to annex Brazil in this war, and you're just cock-teasing and waiting for the next one.. :rpgcodex:

I'm afraid I may have to cheat by triggering events that gradually increase % of socialist POPs to achieve that.

Would you agree to such a thing or do you prefer for me to go over with this as it is intended to?

Here, obviously
I would be fine with you doing whatever you wanted. With how you have dealt with all of the Jacobin revolts in the narrative, a full on communist rebellion doesn't seem like the most likely change, but who knows? Your narratives have been pretty believable so far. I am sure that you could pull it off splendidly.

Also bump.

Well, generally I think it's a shame you either need a small country or deliberate fuck-ups to set up a dictatorship.

At your current size though, you've got a fair chance at making a social democratic state (= I-Win state most of the time)

I'm currently playing as CSA (gotta say, they improved this section a LOT, though I think you'll still need grand campaign with special gamey tactics to set up a strong CSA) and I'm actually thinking about trying to get a Fascist Dictatorship (might be possible due to Supremacy national value).

Point is, I'm not averse to cheating as long as it's for fun or saves the game (a good example is that I'm generally fine with Krakow or some other assfuck-imminent minor in Europe using Baby Boom event in the early game to get the necessary population to get anywhere).

If cheating is needed to spread the light of the revolution to the bourgeoisie slaves of Brazil then so be it.
