Guess it's time to play original trilogy again.

In Wizardry 1 (SNES version), is the only important ability for fighters to hit and hit hard is Strength? Or do I need to raise Agility as well?

In the manual of the MS-DOS version, the stats are described like this:

Strength: affects your skill in combat
IQ and Piety: influence your ability to cast and resist spells
Vitality: affects your ability to withstand damage
Agility: helps you avoid attacks and open treasure chests
Luck: comes to your aid in many mysterious ways

Sounds like Strength is the main attribute for physical offence, but Vitality and Agility are important for defense.

Oh yeah, it's a pretty good version from what I've played. High resolution wireframe dungeons and detailed artwork are chef's kiss.

One thing I found out this week I haven't seen explained around the web is how to increase Boltac's inventory. When you find an item he doesn't carry, like for example a Short Sword+1, you need to sell it to him so that next time you visit he will have it for sale. The good thing about this is that you can buy as many as you want, so a rare item becomes readily available. The problem is Boltac buys it from you for half of what he will sell it for, so you immediately feel cheated by this transaction.

Wizardry 1-3 formulas (applies to Wizardries 4 and 5 as well, except for the stuff new to those, and in fact you can basically use this formula/calculations as a general how-to guide to Elminage and Wizardry Empire as well, btw, though Elminage has its own wiki obviously):

    Show Spoiler

There is much more inside the spoiler tag but here's a relevant bit about combat:
Basically applies word-for-word for Elminage as well.

So I went back to Elminage 2 recently, will try to clear the extra content on the ds/3ds version. I had an alchemist that I changed into a hunter, so I could have 9 charge of alch spell and deal decent dmg with bow...but I used Miracle in one battle, lost a level and my max charge for alch spell went back to 3 ;(
I wonder if this is some kind of bug but it kinda sucks. I went back to alchemist and gave him the death scythe with long range. heh

It's... competent. I would consider it a lesser Wizardry, but still worth checking out. It was made by the same studio that cranked out those Class of Heroes games, and it definitely feels like it.

It's no Wizardry Empire 2 (PC) or Wizardry Gaiden 4 (SNES), that's for damn sure. Not even close. It's still worth checking out, though. Like I said... it's competent.

EDIT: Note that I never bothered finishing it, so it is possible the game has some sort of brilliant shift in dungeon design towards the end-game or whatever; but I got too bored with it to continue with it. I've always meant to come back to it but I could never muster the will to do it.

Hmm, I quite liked CoH tbh, but dungeon design is not one of their strong points imo. Please tell me it's better in this? Do we have multi-levelled dungeons with some actual danger in them? I don't know why I'm asking because I'll almost certainly D1P this anyway but I'd like to know whether to get really hyped or just a little bit hyped.

It's coming out on my birthday so I guess that's a day-1 purchase.
I'm more excited as to what it means for the Wizardry franchise's future, getting a Tale of the Forsaken Land port (or others, or even a new game) doesn't sound impossible anymore.

Yes, it's very good news to see the Wizardry IP being used for something that's at least dungeon crawler-related. Hopefully it means new games. I'll buy this just to show them there's interest in these games.

only 8 classes? do they have any depth to them? 8 elminage-like classes would be pretty boring

the first game is alright. second game first scenario is alright too. like aweigh said, it's no wizardry gaiden or empire...
the dungeons are better than class of heroes but it's still ''find switch to proceed to next floor''.

Is anyone actually working on a translation patch for Wizardry Forsaken Lands 2 (Busin 0: Wizardry Alternative Neo)?

One of the few games I'd absolutely love to play in this life time.
