[ Review ]

Finally, Lost Empire, that game that no one knew about until it appeared at GamersGate, has been reviewed.

Despite a rather mixed review, James Allen gives it 6 somethings out of 8. According to the Out Of Eight scoring guide this means "buy it if you like the genre".

Praise is given to things like interesting research, multiple victory conditions, and the "amount of freedom [given in] creating a custom race tailored to your overall strategy". However the experience is hindered by a sub-par user interface:

The core of the game is great, but controlling your empire is not straightforward. If Lost Empire featured a useful zoomed-out view or minimap, then playing later in the game would be possible. Some people might have a better handle on the game, but I found it too cumbersome to be enjoyable. Lost Empire is just too difficult to manage, and when you have 5,000 stars to worry about, you need a great user interface and Lost Empire lacks this important feature.

The developer indicates that improvements will be made to the user interface through patches, but we'll see

The game certainly piques my interest, but I'm holding off for now. Major UI improvements would certainly swing things in favour of a purchase for me.

    Like you say, we''ll see.
