Can anyone explain to me why is 13. Sword training with Zhang so good? Why are you all choosing it instead of other sword upgrades.

The other sword boosts give us a useful technique besides the +1Swords at the cost of only 1 month.

13 is the only one that stacks with a sword technique for a total of +2 Swords. Check everyone's packages. I doubt you'll find a naked 13.

And if we choose 3 sword techniques like the the kenjutsu the anti huashan and the yuchang don't we receive +3 sword plus a +1 sword from Saint's teaching? That totals for a +4

Lots of package checking here, if you guys want to implement a vote for time limit you can use Azira's choices to make it easier, no need for my permission. That vote can last a day or so.

I'll address the other questions in a while.

His better techniques were the ones doing things like setting our eyepatch on fire with a glancing blow, we couldn't damage him too much when we landed a blow because we didn't have master level strength to go against his master level defense. Techniques are useful elements to put to work but a single one is not as versatile as a boost in, say, strength is. A boost in strength is like giving a little upgrade to every single technique that we have to make them more powerful if need be. We can execute a technique perfectly, but if there's only so much 'umfph' we can put in it it won't be able to stand against the best of the best.

The Yuhe finger that we would have lost like the kick anyway. Or we could've gone for the strength upgrade instead and then just been able to toss him out as easily the strongest (in terms of natural stat, anyway) fighter in the place. Anyway, while further techniques can be useful in specific scenarios (we have a good number of ones for general use in fighting that the 'we absolutely need at least one combat tech at any cost' thing plaguing us near the start of the LP doesn't really apply much anymore) we need to take a severe look at whether the advantages they provide are worth it. And I'm pretty skeptical of them, to be honest. The Chuzhan Fist developed against Wudang (who we were so sure at that time would be our worst enemies...) turned out to be just about worthless in the fight against Wudang. Jing would have had enough strength and agility to make the technique work against the Wudang style, but in itself it doesn't provide that much fuel against them.

If that's how that worked out, why should we trust that the two other rejects from that decision (the anti-Huashan technique and the anti-Shaolin technique) should work out any better? I would like to advance the Shuowang Claws some since that's a decent technique, but improving our stats so that we have an upgrade in how we execute every combat technique as well as the potential to learn more strenuous ones later on is I think a better general choice than focusing more on the one technique. Also, contrary to...

We already did that. Remember the Diving Eagle Grip?

I'm sticking as hard as is possible to the one single thing I was to improve the most, unarmed fighting. I'm incorporating every upgrade possible to make that as strong as possible, with the exception of the qinggong one because you people can't even pull in for half the time of training that Zhang had planned for us. Throwing away the best general boosts to how Jing fights and his future potential in exchange for a series of untested techniques (well, one was tested and shown to be pretty subpar) seems awfully short-sighted, especially when those techniques are just designed with one particular foe in mind.

I'm not planning at stopping with 9 unarmed, I want the cap boosting to go onto 10 and these stat increases are extremely rare, so I want us to be able to go to the final cap by the time we finally get another chance for one of those stats to go up. That requires getting them both up this time. I'm not going halfway so that we can pick up a piddling couple of untested techniques.

Similarly, I'm not forsaking the great neigong boost as a helper in high-level competition against master-level enemies.

    1. Spoilers.
    2. Remember how at first your own qi was killing you? Yeah.
    3. It trains qi emission, so it's a good foundation towards learning how to fire beams and such. But they're harder to use in combat.

Also, qi absorption at a faster rate makes it very noticeable now, and if you can hold out for long enough you could potentially turn the tables on your opponent.

Esquilax is on the right track on how END would mitigate qi damage.

asxetos, care to adjust to 12-18? That seems to be the range we're most willing to consider, and I reckon you don't want to go higher than that.

treave, a couple of questions from me:
Is the Cult's Temple in Chinese borders, or in Tibetan borders?
How far away is the Fire Temple from Yinhu Island, and how far away from Mount Hua?
Is it possible to train with LORD Zhang, go visit them, and come back for more training?
And the last one isn't so much a question, as a request for another Zhang Jue Gaiden: what did the Grand Taoist relay to LORD Zhang on his way to the fight with Ahura Mazda? I have a feeling that the Grand Taoist knew he wasn't surviving this one and I wonder what he passed on to his greatest student with his last words. Pretty please, with sugar and cherry on top?

Close to three weeks in travel time for each location from the island, and if you want to try and divide the training in two parts, feel free. I won't stop you from planning that.

treave, thanks for the clarification. On another note, would using a level of neigong above our END cause internal damage to us as well? For example, if Jing has END 6 and uses his improved neigong at Level 7, will he suffer some internal injuries from it, but not as much as he would if his END was 5?

Again, this is a false dichotomy. I could have also said "we couldn't hurt him because we didn't have Master level skills to break through his Master level defense". They're both important. And I'm not sure how versatile STR is in all circumstances - I mean, of course it's good, but being able to disrupt Guo Fu's neigong with a touch of Yuhe Finger seems to be a hell of a lot more efficient than smashing him down the hard way with claws.

We've used the Chuzhan Fist quite a few times. It works pretty well. It's taken a backseat to our Thunder-Breaker Kick and Shouwang Claws, and it doesn't annihilate the Taiji Fist quite as much as Zhang designed it to, but it works. Besides, we've never even fought the Wudang yet, even in the other timeline, other than that brief sparring match with Wu Tong. Also, I'm not voting for either of the anti-Huashan or the anti-Shaolin techniques.

I'm with you that going for the +1 Unarmed investment is a good one since it'll improve how we execute all of our techniques. That's pretty clear. As for the boost we had to our Shouwang Claws, I had meant that it's obviously much easier to get a Shouwang Claws boost when you're in the presence of the man who invented it.

This is insane. First of all, I'm not sure you can get a base level of a stat to 10 via mundane means like training in the first place, and secondly, there are way more efficient ways of going about this. We just found a technique that boosted our Sword skill cap, why couldn't we do the same for Unarmed? After all, we even know of a Wudang qinggong that gives +1 Unarmed. Trying to get three different stat boosts to do this is just a terrible waste of time, and it's a whole bunch of aspie powergaming. There are much better ways of going about this.

Also, nobody is voting for untested techniques. Most people are either going for the Kenjutsu sword technique or an improvement to our Self-Taught Style of swordsmanship.

Well, shit. How about we train up here for 1.5 years, enough to stomp some upstart Turfag Prince from our country and woman, claim said woman, learn exotic Persian martial arts and the return to LORD ZHANG to refine them?

Not so much with normal usage, no. Your body does have the capacity to handle more qi beyond your endurance limit thanks to the demon essence pearl.

As I said, feel free to plan.

I just had this crazy idea:
How about we turn Yinhu Island into the Tortuga to the unorthodox world's pirate-era Caribbean Sea? You know, make it the epicentre of the Unorthodox world, what Youxia is to the Bandit Kingdoms.

That plan aint never gonna work out. Something shiny will most certainly distract us.

And if something important does come along in our travels, say the situation with Yunzi, the Turfag and the Cult is much more complicated than we think, it turns out that we needed the extra time anyway.
If nothing important comes up, we can return back to Yinhu.

Hehe. So optimistic. I was thinking more along the lines of some damsel(s) in distress. Or whores. It just seems shortsighted to run off over what we might miss and pass up on more dedicated training. Something I think Jing sorely lacks. China can look after itself for a while.

China can, but we need to get to Yunzi in a reasonable timeframe. And about training: the Fire Cult are a group of hardcore Persian warriors with exotic technqiues, both spiritual and physical. There will be training opportunities galore over there as well. WE can solve that situation, train up with them, and then return to LORD ZHANG to further refine our skills before the Summit.

So, no, we're not really missing out on too much training if we take advantage of the Cult's opportunities. For instance, having won Rob Halford's Xsaora Vairya's respect, we can definitely persuade the man to teach us some of his hardcore stuff.

Kazgar, care to make a vote for how many months we'll train?

    1-6
    6-12
    12-18
    18-24
    24-30
    30-36

A lot of us are favoring 12-18 right now because we don't want to be stuck training too long, since we gain more skills and techniques on our adventures and we want to actually do something about the current political landscape. Also, if we wait too long, Yunzi will probably be taken.
