I remember a number of people going for "random Zhang Jue technique from Japan", though I wouldn't exactly call those "untested". He's probably tested them on all sorts of crazy things.

 

Sounds fine to split our training a little and we are well placed in the unique position to investigate this foreign threat to Shun's rule so voting 12-18 months. We can always come back but we should not leave the situation in the west for too long right now.

 

That one could be a real fucking gem. I really would like that one considering it's only a 2 month investment, but it's tough to fit in. We'll see if we can manage it.

In any case, I think that a detour for Yunzi and to investigate the Turfan is a nice compromise that most of us can agree on.

 

Any way to flop you back to that 12-18>18-24?

 

Frankly I don't see the need to jet quickly and get caught in another barrage of sidequests. Ch 1 Jing was like a cat who kept getting distracted by the nearest moving object.

As for the packages they're all good. It's just differing opinions on how Jing will develop, there's no clearly wrong choices unless you leave out Niegong, Reikan and Artistic Skill, in which case you're a fucking pleb who doesn't know shit about martial arts. There are several archetypes I would put forward that each have a different slant on Jing's character and abilities. Don't forget that Zhang Jue only decided on this approach after hearing the (presumably last) words of old master Wang. So what Jing ends up doing here will probably affect his attitude, in the same way that going stealthyrambotiger did last time we were on the island.

Archetype 1: Get me outa here, aka SOLOTiger, aka Strong Independant Jing Who Don't Need No Training.

You slam down a quick and dirty regimen that has the absolute necessities form the island, you use Zhang for his signature technique and then you go. No fucking around with the girls or wildlife. This disregard for training is why Jing gets in over his head a lot, so you may as well start praying.

Archetype 2: Wandering swordsman, aka Long-Tooth Tiger, aka Fuck Bai Jiutan.

Clocking in at just over two and a half years this takes Jing to the ridiculous heights of 13 AGI, 9 swords, and more Jap techniques than you can shake a katana at. He'll be calling people sensei and adding -kun at the end of his words and shit. While leaving enough time to both visit the Fire cult and run up to Mt Hueshan and duel BJ atop a mountain somewhere, hopefully while a storm rages.

Archetype 3: The Rogue, aka The Skill Monkey Tiger, aka The Harem Chaser

Two years three months to become irresistible to the opposite sexc, or if they are capable of resisting your charms then they can easily be entrapped with deft use of delicate silky traps. Since this is so hopelessly suboptimal in a fight you will definitely need to pray. Also Jing gets a cool animal bro that can live in eye socket, defecate in eye socket, lay eggs in eye socket etc.

Archetype 4: The Over-Reacher, aka The Raging Bull Tiger, aka Zhang Jue Jr

Train for 35 months, pushing all the offensive and defensive skills to the limit, especially niegong. No non-combat shit. Show up at the Mountain on the big day and turn some heads with Yuanshi Hundun onslaught, big unarmed techs, and big silk. Zhang became a great pugilist in what, his 20's? Completely impractical, but it's got to be worth a shot.

Basically, 1.5 years with our Master, then go resolve the Cult situation and the Turfag Prince, secure Yunzi, learn awesome Persian martial arts and then return to Maniac Island to continue preparing for the Summit. Can I tempt you to a 12-18 months vote with that?

 

Zhang Jue, much like Mike Tyson whom he is no doubt modeled after, became a Great at just twenty years old. Jing will be 20 or 21 by the time the Huashan Summit begins.

 

I thought he became a Great at around twenty-five? He's around his middle forties right now, and the last summit was, what, twenty- twenty-two years ago?

 

How absolute would our six month time frame be? We are all pretty close.

I say we take a headcount like we have been, then pool together things that people want, then try to work something out such that it satisfies the most of what everyone wants.

i.e we all seem to want something from 12-24 months, and we would prefer it be less than 18. Before we lock ourselves into being unable to do anything higher than 18 just because we say so, why don't we now try to see what we want on a specific basis a la the "packages" that people are posting.

 

That clusterfuck already took up ten pages in less than twelve hours, and it all boiled down to: "Neiggong+END! No, swords and sabers! Fuck you, get two technqiues and let's bounce!" This at least gives us a decent timeframe to work with, instead of jumping around with fifty different packages.

Speaking of which, can you be swayed to 12-18 months, as per this plan:

 

I just don't want us to get swamped down trying to recruit flops for a time limit before we even start getting dirty.

My bare minimum is +2 swords and either Neigong or a stat up. Preferably both. I would also like other things that would cause my time limit to be 18+, but I am willing to compromise. That is the thinking to which I was referring. I can try to fit my wishes in a general time constraint, but I don't see the need to make a hard cap right off the bat.

I will only vote for anything if I can be assured at least the first and one of the later. If you can do that. Sure, sign me up for 12-18. I am afraid, though, that if I vote to set a time limit, then some of my biggest goals may be pushed aside because it would take too long.

 

Just wait until that plan meets reality.

 

Well, I can guarantee you one thing (and if it turns out wrong, well, blame me) that the neiggong+END or swords (very likely both) will definitely make it on the list. Every package so far has voted for them, so there will be zero problems. I do not, however, want to strong-arm you into anything, so is my plan and guarantee of at least one and very possibly both of them making it there enough for you?

Sure, with 18 months, we can put that together. In fact, that's the package I put together, there are variations of it from others as well:

5) Thrown Weapons boost: Works really well with our spider silk technique, branches us out, and requires very little investment (1 month)
13) Sword boost: All-purpose sword skills to stack with and synergise with one (1) technique of our choosing. Mandatory. (2 months)
20) Yuchang Sword Style Technique: Improves our self-taught style further, and +1 SWORDS. A much surer bet than the Huashan Counter, which could be a dud. (3 months)
22) Reikan boost: A fucking steal for only a month investment. (1 month)
25) Neigong training: Our most dangerous asset as a fighter needs to be cultivated even further. Mandatory. (6 months)
30) END boost: Perfect synergy with our neigong training as we can cultivate more of our chaotic qi without hurting our body thanks to a greater level of resilience. Combined with the neigong training, this is deadly. Another must-have. (5 months)

There you have it. You got +2 Swords, neigong training, and an END boost to ensure that we can push our limits without hurting ourselves as badly as we did against Yunzi and in the Hundred Man battle. I would be willing to swap out Thrown Weapons and Reikan for Zhang's mystery technique or perhaps +2 Artistic Skill, but this is the broad strokes of it.

 

I respect your dedication to actually putting in some time with Zhang and all, even if I don't agree with the choices you'd be making for it, but you should be aware that the only sword bonuses that stack are the intense training with Zhang and only one +1 sword from one of the techniques. You can't get the boosts from all of the sword techniques by taking all of them, though you will be left with a number of sword techniques.
