Hm. What about 'getting a nasty shock' from touching the elementals? Do we get one, too? I know the warning was meant for the kids, who are a lot more fragile than we are, but could it be something we also need to concern ourselves with?

This is an entertainment show. Lets give them what they desire. B. I can already imagine the ooh's and the aah's from the audience.

Y'know, after thinking about this some more, I agree with wjw that this should be done with the appearance of being for the entertainment of the onlookers. ROFLstomping with a giant Dragon might look just as bad (in terms of hurting our reputation) as ducking out of the bet in the first place. That being said, I think that Tigranes is correct on this - tiring Elmont out seems to be a clever solution that doesn't show our hand too much.

Didn't this Elmond guy had pretty big mana reserve for human being?
I doubt that it's big as ours, but I don't think that he exhausts himself too soon.

Then again this battle is for enterteinment, so I am fine with fistt tigers and elemental protection.

We might indeed go for the unkillable-monk-style, i mean we already ate an entire fireball and and allowed them to kick us, and now we are stuck in the mud. It might be fun to watch, how we escape death time after time, and let them throw everything they got against us, until we defeat them both with one simple, but perfectly executed and well timed low-level move.

    Flip the flop: E > B.

At this point it is more about morale than stamina. After their best move does not appear to be effective, most people lose heart.

Definitely prefer the tiger over the barrier. G>B.

treave Question: do we know that punching lightning wolves is in fact something that won't electrocute us? :M

Yeah, I asked the same question. My first guess was 'no' - come on, a few F rank creatures, trouble an angel? That should never happen. But it never hurts to ask, I suppose.

The thing that makes me doubt G, if only for a bit, is that it expends too much of our energy for not a very tangible gain, and that goes - ever so slightly - against the character I envision. I mean, the situation with Barbatos was comical exactly because he fell in the hands of a person who does not charge into people to punch them, and that made for an interesting contrast between our personalities. Besides, is it better to show ourselves as a slightly better mage than Elmont, or as a vastly superior physical fighter who can jump out of the bog and fist several elementals to death? The ones who don't like us could still cling to the hope of overcoming us with weapons if we keep to our reputation of a mage.

Ultimately, the tiger is a more elegant move that slightly one ups Elmont in his own game, demonstrating our superiority in magical matters, while the physical approach is more of a wild card.

Well, if we're dumb enough to collapse the roof with a lightning dragon, we're dumb enough to electrocute ourselves - that's my thinking.

But even if G works fine, I want to defeat Elmont as a mage and I'd like to do it in character as a lazy trollish scholar. We could have just gigadyned everyone's clothes from the start, or hit them with a giant fireball etc. The objective here is win by subtle trolling, not to smash everyone into pudding with our mighty powah. That's why B or A would be my preference.

I would believe the Battle Aura's enchantment/Barbatos most certainly give us the minimal protection to punch electric wolves out of existence without suffering harm. Barb may be headstrong, but he's not a complete retard. The lightning tiger is another good option, but the FISTING MAGIC is the one he'll like the best. I bet that if he respects Erd enough, he eventually will reveal more useful battle techniques.

The Aura itself doesn't grant any protection against elemental attacks, and I don't think Barbos does, either. Any protection would have to come from our own reserves - which, glancing at the character sheet, should not be lacking. Our Magical Defense stat in enough to take an E spell to the face without blinking - an electrocution or two would not pose much trouble... Hey, some people pay for this stuff!

One last consideration for today: if we manage to overpower Elmont with magical might, it's quite likely Erd will instantly become Argius' new favorite student, which may give us too many responsabilities for our liking. At worst, they might ask him to give classes, which would seriously limit his mobility, for not to mention his inability to read and write. At really worst case scenario, they ask us to wear certain uniform to do so, which won't go well with the Halo and Wing.

Meanwhile, punching the wolves is something that will leave everyone shocked with surprise. However, that action may inflict some clothing damage on Erd which we would prefer to avoid. Either way, the outcome will be interesting to watch.

Wasn't this exactly what we wanted to get by choosing a post in the library? A closer contact with their best mages, and access to their resourses?

I seriously doubt anyone could force Erd to do anything but the bare minimum, unless he profits off of it somehow. But then it wouldn't be a problem, right?

I very much doubt that we're a big enough fish to decapitate the leadership of two nations just yet. For one, I am fairly sure that the Archmage of Gran Byarlant here could beat us quite handily at the moment. If two powerful nations can be brought to their knees by a newbie angel, they probably aren't very powerful to begin with.

You're outside, in the garden. There are no ceilings, but there are a lot of towers around.

As for getting shocked by the wolves, depends on whether you think his magical attack capabilities is a match for your innate defense against magic.

So the wolves electric attack rating depends on his stats and not their F stats? Interesting.

Well, I suppose he could have been pulling his punches just like Wisteria. In fact, I'd think it would be quite likely as he seems to have been from the start (turn-based fighting and low-level fireball etc). Though I doubt the codex will err on the side of caution/wisdom here - or anywhere.

If that is a linear comparison, there is simply no way he can beat an A+ magical defense rating.

Wait, does it mean ours function the same way? They must really hurt the fodder units, then.

He was starting slow, yes - but just as it was with her, he was forced to use better and better moves once he realized his usual methods are not working. In the end Wist has used her ultimate technique, and going by the reaction of the crowd, Elm's wolves are one of his top-level abilities.

I have mentioned before that I can't imagine him higher than at a C rank, with Argus in low Bs.

Perhaps his wolves are a special, stronger variation than ours. Quality over quantity basically. However, if that's the case, we can always summon more Tigers to see how he fares then.:smug:

That begs the question of how variable the spells are. Certainly the higher levels should be pretty unique, as they are all hand-crafted by archmages, much like our Gigadyne, but at the lower ones? Frankly, I am quite surprized that his elementals are the same as ours - there are many more animals, why did it have to be wolves?

My guess would be that the low-level stuff is pretty inflexible and is passed down between the generations of mages with little to no changes. We know that both this and our world share common history, and we have observed some spells that are the same despite there being no contact for 10000 years, like Magic Arrows and Fireballs, which makes me think they are like a basic textbook or something, while Teleport-class spells is the stuff that magical diplomas are made of.

Of course, there could be a much simpler explanation - like treave not bothering to create two separate magical systems for our character and everyone else, and going with the spells that we are familiar with just to ease the choices a bit, - but we can't be so popamole that we need that much handholding, can we? Can we? :M

Or maybe he is using wolves because we used wolves in Erise.

That does not explain why his elementals are shaped like wolves and not like, say, hounds, lynxes or any other predators - or just aren't some amorphous lumps of energy.

If the spells look the same to such an extent, there is a high probability that his is a 'basic' spell that also functions the same way as ours does.

This quote from the update might explain why they look like wolves.

That doesn't explain why our elementals look like wolves. What are the chances that our world has independently developed a new spell with the same exact signature animal? :M

They have managed to exile Vaalgrahf and maybe some of his followers to a remote world, but it's not like they followed him... or did they? :? Unless it were the demons that brought the knowledge of the spell with them.

The 'Sky Goddess Elmeth', huh? Sky and lightning go hand in hand. I wonder if this means that humans were granted magic by the Gods (and we see them summoning familiars as their Gods taught them once), or if they developed it by themselves and just sort of paid tribute to the Divine patrons by shaping their spells into the likeness of the things they admired. I suppose if the rest of the Gods show connections to the elements of Fire, Water and Earth, it would be indicative of the first hypothesis.

Makes me wonder if our tigers and dragons aren't related to their Elmeth, too.
