I got to play it and it feels cheap for a trillion dollar project.
Because they didn't stray out from the bare-bone MoO formula, they at least could've made it more immersive via graphical little touches like:

-different outfits for diplomats, scientists, spies, warriors
-better 2D/3D art for buildings and research presentation (the majority of buildings look like boxes with slight variations)
-better representation of ground structures that take part in the orbit combat (ground batteries and missile stations now appear as units on the combat map in space WTF!?)
-immersive ground invasions with animations like in MoO2
-now only diplomacy screen has background. science screen does not. captured tech should have different background also
-a separate and proper representation of colony buildings on the planet (trying to find a specific building constructed is a chore)

Also:
- the combat is crap. When having lots of ships, combat is a total clusterfuck/ maps too small also
- missiles are way overpowered (same as MoO2? :) )
- ship design screen needs way more improvement
- I doubt the AI will be capable seeing its current state
- lack of leaders/ proper events
- diplomacy is barebone (at least Galactic Council is in)
- ships speeds needs to me tweaked. they're too low at the moment. the need for a ship to pass each system to get somewhere and use those lanes it's like slowly seeing your life drain away

All in all, game is a 5/10 at the moment

Actually it is possible. with move and shoot and more movement points it is very possible.
kiting based by weapon range is possible but based on speed and maneuvering around slower ship - no

How can you kite anything if you do not have superior range?

I dunno either. All I saw from the MOO4 video example was a big snake spinning in circles. I didn't see much kiting at all.

Reload times. You fire, and exit the range while waiting for reload. Combine this with firing arcs you can fuck up any enemy that is much slower.

Both of those are possible in turn based, with weapons that fire every other turn or less.

I have yet to see a turn based game that does not allow turning in place. All you would do it get into range of enemy and enemy on their turn would turn and blast you back.

Some MoO2 ships have pretty poor turning, if you get completely behind them plenty wouldn't be able to make the full 270 or so turn to shoot you. Of course all their pals will shoot you so it's not that effective.

If you have MoO 1,2,3 in a retail version, you can get a free digital copy on GOG by taking a picture of it and mailing it to them.

This game is a shitty crappy fecal waste of a failed clone experiment and its developers' country should be invaded by Falkland Islands' army/airforce/navy to prevent any further abominations.

Master of Orion to Launch August 25

Prepare for the ultimate galactic campaign as the 4X strategy legend takes to the stars

August 11, 2016 — WG Labs is honored to announce that Master of Orion is set for global launch and cosmic domination on August 25, 2016. The legendary game of interstellar conquest is reborn and ready for both new gamers and hard-core players of the original series. After a successful Early Access period, where player feedback was integral in shaping the game, WG Labs releases this anticipated 4X title (eXplore, eXpand, eXterminate, eXploit), prompting all to answer the call and “Conquer the Stars”.

“The journey for Master of Orion’s reboot has been an amazing one, and now we’ve approached our destination,” said Jacob Beucler, Publishing Product Director, Master of Orion. “Along for the ride was the Master of Orion community, sharing their thoughts and guiding us toward an amazing Master of Orion experience for the new age!”

As an additional bonus, all who purchase Master of Orion will receive a free copy of the 1997 RTS classic, Total Annihilation. To get this classic title, created by Chris Taylor and Ron Gilbert, just link the game to a new (or existing) Wargaming account: click “Options” in the Master of Orion Main Menu and follow the prompts from the “Wargaming.net Account” button. With just a few clicks, the epic RTS classic is ready to play.

The Master of Orion series made its debut in the mid-1990s, defining the 4X video game genre and setting the standard for all future strategy games. Now, WG Labs’ Master of Orion will deliver the best elements of the original series while bringing a new level of gameplay experience for the modern gamer. Battle the ten classic races of aliens from the original series, voiced by legendary talents from sci-fi and video games such as Mark Hamill (Star Wars), Michael Dorn (Star Trek: The Next Generation) and Alan Tudyk (Firefly). Engage in real-time tactical battles fully realized with AAA graphics. Explore numerous paths to victory as you work your way across the galaxy to conquer Orion.

As of August 25, the Master of Orion standard edition will be available for £23.00 delivering all of the tactics and strategy of the original series. The Master of Orion Collector’s Edition is also available for £39,99 featuring a detailed digital art book, the three original Master of Orion games, a full orchestral soundtrack by the original Master of Orion composer, retro pixel ships skins, and an exclusive new race for Collector’s Edition holders: the Terran Khanate.

Both versions of Master of Orion are available for immediate purchase here:

So is this any good now? Steam reviews took a dive mid-EA I think, but are now back to favorable levels.

It is shit now, also I've found it to be more fun than Stellaris.
Played it 2 weeks ago or even less.
Full of minor bugs, a few major bugs, interface is horrible - in case of notification of what happened in opponent turn it's great - and worse in everythig else in comparison with MoO2 from 1998, although bearable.
Unbalanced as shit - AI controlled races like Terran, Silicoid, Mecklar tend to win.
In my last game in Medium galaxy, age set to Mineral rich judt to able to control at least something, played as modified Silicoid, brawled with nearby Bulrati for 200 turns, then turned out that Meklar already have half of galaxy and demolished 1-2 races.
Btw a good move to ensure you'll face less danger from AI is to play one of the those 3 race - if you playing it, it mean AI can't play it.
Silicoid are the best.

I think the Early Access served them well. The sold a ton of copies and got a lot of customer feedback. The game is supposedly much better than it was in February. Contrast this to the Stellaris approach

I will try a swedish high seas version when it is out. If it is good I might get it on a at least 50% off sale in some future.

And here is the trailer:

I don't know what is the game like, I doubt it can rival MoO2, but damn this is some great trailer. It has that feel...
