I think you perceive exploration in the wrong way. Only combat is somewhat similar to homm... the rest of the game has nothing to do with it. but since you want to compare it to homm so much, think of exploration there - you move your hero in the unknown territory to find a) fuck all b) monsters protecting loot c) just random monsters) d) shop e)mine f) mine protected by monsters g) enemy. eador exploration works the same way apart from you do not move on the map and you won't find enemy ai in your province... everything else is the same (find epic monsters, loot, mines etc).

What I always do is I make my first hero a warrior, then I hire a scout as the second hero. Warrior becomes my main hero and the scout is left to explore provinces. If you're lucky, after two or three battles you can get your warrior to the point where he doesn't need a supporting army to take out other armies. From there I just keep leveling him on his own until he becomes a near-invincible tank.

Same here, though I do like to keep the army for ranged support.

I got my Scout exploring provinces completely after i get my second hero. I usually invest in the Scouting skill. You get a +2 gold income on fully explored provinces, and i got a sneaking suspicion that a fully explored province has a smaller risk of getting ambushed by bandits. Anyone?
In conclusion, i always try to explore provinces fully :)

    Edit: This is Eador:Genesis

Except in HoMM you make more strategic and tactical decisions on how to allocate your heroes and armies. In Eador, this decision is much more... abstract for lack of a better term, and even though in the context of the game it is similarly important and significant, it "feels" much more boring and less significant. There is more nuance to it in HoMM (and most of the rest of the gameplay for that matter). Of course, Eador's shards have different implications for strategy as well.

In the end I am not saying Eador is bad or significantly worse or anything, just that it's not quite my preference and mechanically a few things about it don't quite work for me.

I think its 4 gold but no, its not worth it. I only explore when I run out of provinces to conquer and lairs to explore.

Uh, a bandit ambush is an exploration encounter like any other. You can't have a bandit ambush in a 100% explored province because you can't keep exploring it to begin with.

Ok i see. Didn't know that. Could be that there was a risk just by travelling through, or occupying a province.

Don't worry about getting bored or something. Eador has a fuckton of interesting monsters, spells, and special battles (every type of province guard requires its own tactics for example) that will reveal over time. Fighting even a single troop with one tier higher for the first time will give you more than enough excitement. Not to mention when you start to unlock higher tier troops and spells yourself. Middle to late game fights, with 4 tiers of different troops of all kinds of combination, and spells and skills mixed together, will bring out very exciting battles.

The exploration concept of Eador is very similar to creeping in Warcraft, or killing skeletons/imps protecting the lumber mills in HOMM - additional opportunities for your hero to gain experience and lewt. The difference in Eador is that everytime you explore something new may happen, because everything is randomized and you can't "see it on the map".

The only thing that I think makes the exploration in MotBW more boring is the awefully slow animations. In Genesis, hero movements, end of turns, etc are all instant. Watching your hero move slowly accross many provinces for several turns can get quite annoying in MoTBW.

I hate when games do that, from what is written it doesn't seem to affect single player, but I don't believe they are going to make single player different from multiplayer, too much work.
So I'm guessing the dumb down already started.

:salute: Die in peace Eador, I shall love your first game forever.

    I don't know..
I think more patches won't revert the changes made in the game to make multiplayer "better".

Balance changes to multiplayer could be anything, and that cinludes vey usefull stuff like making sure all players have a similar level range of areas around them, stuff not so relevant in single player.

"Balance update" only concerns MP point cost of units. Their stats and abilities weren't touched.

Can you confirm this? So they really made cost of units different from multiplayer to singleplayer?

sea, may I inquire as to what difficulty you're playing on? It makes a huge difference. The original Eador was quite boring on anything below Expert.

Afaik multiplayer currently only exists as tactical battles between players. There is no strategic mutiplayer (yet). therefore what mondblut is talking about is probably the cost of units when you purchase them for your tactical battle. My guess it that strong units were underpriced. This wouldnt effect single player because you purchase your units with gold on the strategic layer.

I'm only guessing but im fairly sure this is what is meant
