Why would you buy Ubisoft games on Steam when they require uPlay anyway (at least I think they do)?
To give them a smaller cut and to keep your games consolidated on one platform? Plus not sure of how uplay's refund policy stacks up against steam's if you are just looking to gauge interest

On uPlay you can get everything at 20% off though, even the bestest gold plated deluxe editions on launch. Don't know about refunds.

And as for the mirrors, the devs said they would have to reduce the amount of environment detail by 20-30% in order to have mirrors and still keep acceptable framerate, and even then they would probably look like shit (remember TDU2 having no shadoiws in the mirrored image). The game already is only 30FPS on consoles.

Might as well remove "Ubisoft" from it.

E: I meant more in the sense of "everything is shit".

Introducing New PvP Multiplayer Mode for Steep
Challenge your friends in the new Steep PvP multiplayer mode - available for free to all players as part of the next update, rolling out on October 29th for PC players and coming soon for PS4 and Xbox One Players. The first phase of implementing this new mode will be a beta state, so we can test the technical infrastructure and continue to iterate. Try it first and share your feedback!

“Steep is a multiplayer game at its core – you can always seamlessly play with other players. But so far, the moments when you play together with the same objective are rare,” Steep Creative Director Igor Manceau commented. “We’ve been working to find the right combination of cooperative and competitive play, where players can truly play together, at the same moment, and tackle the same dedicated objectives together.”

How does it work?

Start by joining the multiplayer lobby in the Mountain View and our automatic matchmaking system will group you with up three other players. As soon as everyone is ready, a 5-second timer will appear and count down to the start of the match. When the countdown reaches zero, the competition begins.

pvp.matchmaking_337275.jpg

You will encounter a series of different challenges in the Alps, linked together through playlists. Every PvP session will start with a randomized playlist. Each playlist includes different challenges with the same theme, such as race, freestyle, rocket wingsuit, and wingsuit. You will compete twice in every challenge before the final winner is decided. The synchronous PvP gameplay also allows for collisions with other players, so pay close attention to your surroundings!

Steep Game Director Arnaud Ragot said, “We knew from the start that synchronous multiplayer would be a very cool experience, but many things surprised us during development. During our play sessions, we found that this new mode brings out a lot of different types of emotions! You can have a lot of fun colliding together, and there may even be some drama when you find yourself losing to your friend at the last 10 meters.

We also found that character customization immediately become more exciting with synchronous multiplayer. We started to spend more time at the beginning of each play session to create our own unique style, to personalize our outfit in fun ways, and stand out in a crowd – adding some additional flavor to the overall Steep experience. We can’t wait to get this in your hands, and for you to have as much fun as we are with this new way to enjoy the game.”

We’ll regularly update you on our forums and social media on the progress of this beta phase.

See you on the slopes!

I wonder what game they will give out for free next...

Speaking of Steep, is it worth it for SSX fans or is it too "realistic" / normal? From what I have seen, it looks grounded but arcade, which is a terrible and boring compromise.
I only played the beta, where I wouldn't say it was realistic, even though that was apparently the intention of the creators, but there was some update that changed the physics in general along the line, and according to people the game is way less realistic now than before.
For me the biggest issue with the game were the inconsistent/shitty controls, after playing for several hours I still couldn't jump consistently.

You can get Assassin's Creed Unity for free on Uplay
Supporting Notre-Dame de Paris
As the smoke clears on the events that unfolded on Monday at the Notre-Dame de Paris, we stand in solidarité with our fellow Parisians and everyone around the world moved by the devastation the fire caused. Notre-Dame is an integral part of Paris, a city to which we are deeply connected. Seeing the monument in peril like this affected us all.

In light of Monday’s events, we will be donating €500k to help with the restoration and reconstruction of the Cathedral. We encourage all of you who are interested to donate as well. In addition, we want to give everyone the chance to experience the majesty and beauty of Notre-Dame the best way we know how. For one week, we will be giving Assassin’s Creed Unity away free on PC, for anyone who wants to enjoy it. You can download it now for Uplay PC here: http://assassinscreed.com/unity-notredame/ or get it directly on the Ubisoft Store here: https://store.ubi.com/

When we created Assassin’s Creed Unity, we developed an even closer connection with this incredible city and its landmarks – one of the most notable elements of the game was the extraordinary recreation of Notre-Dame.

Video games can enable us to explore places in ways we never could have otherwise imagined. We hope, with this small gesture, we can provide everyone an opportunity to appreciate our virtual homage to this monumental piece of architecture.

Oh look
https://news.ubisoft.com/en-us/article/349914/Get-Steep-for-Free-on-Uplay-PC-For-A-Limited-Time
Steep will be free to download via Uplay between May 16 and May 21, giving players who don't already own the PC version the chance to hit its open-world slopes at no cost, and experience what more than two years of updates and improvements have brought to its extreme winter-sports playground. Better still, Steep is yours to keep after the free period is over, so don't sleep on this one.
It's like that thing I was talking about.

Ubisoft sees PC, digital sales share increase in Q1
Publisher continues anticipating quieter first half as it preps for big releases, UPlay+ later this year

Ubisoft announced its Q1 2019-2020 financials today, showing predicted year-over-year drops as the publisher begins a year backloaded with most of its major releases.

Ubisoft reported net sales of €363.4 million ($407.9 million), down 9.2% year-over-year, and net bookings of €314.2 million ($352.6 million), down 17.6% year-over-year. With a quiet Q1 for Ubisoft releases but with major releases like Tom Clancy's The Division 2 launching in Q4 of last year, 93.1% of Ubisoft's net bookings were digital (compared to 75.2% in Q1 of last year) and 86.7% were from Ubisoft's back catalog (about in line with last year's 87.2%).

Despite year-over-year drops, Ubisoft remains above targets thanks to The Division 2, which Ubisoft called "the industry's biggest hit since the beginning of the year" based on console and PC sales numbers from NPD, GSD, GfK, Famitsu, and its own estimates. Rainbow Six Siege is also still going strong, with engagement up year-over year. After a rocky May, Ubisoft says that in June, Rainbow Six Siege saw its highest MAUs ever for a single month.

Ubisoft also provides quarterly data on its audience segmentation, with Q1 showing 46% of the publisher's audience in North America and 33% in Europe. Platform shows a more dramatic distinction: PC users made up 34% of Ubisoft's audience, up from 24% at the same time last year. In Ubisoft's investor call, CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed that this was in part due to the release of Anno 1800 in April. Guillemot also suggested the PC segment might continue to rise with the release of UPlay+ later this year.

Speaking of Anno 1800, Guillemot also said that the game was doing well on the Epic Games store, though neither he nor CFO Frederick Duguet would offer specific details. Duguet did mention that while they were happy with the Epic relationship, Ubisoft was still mainly focused on UPlay, something Guillemot has emphasized in the past.

Guillemot also responded to a question about Google Stadia, suggesting that the extra cost to make sure games work well on Stadia is "not that high," and that Ubisoft has ensured that the "financial equation is good for us."

The publisher stands by its full-year targets of €2.2 billion ($2.5 billion) in net bookings and €480 million ($539 million) operating income. For Q2, Ubisoft predicts net bookings to amount to around €310 million, which would be down approximately 15% year-over-year.

The lower Q1 and Q2 are largely due to fewer releases in the front half of the year, with nothing major planned until Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint and Just Dance 2020 in November and Gods and Monsters and Watch Dogs: Legion planned for 2020.

Whether someone likes subscription services or not, if you are just a bloke who wants to play videogames, it's unbelievable how cheap you can find hundreds of games to play with these days. 15 dollar a month and play all those games (with older gems like Settlers, Splinter Cell, World in Conflict)?

Ubisoft is homogenizing every fucking game into the same thing. I'm playing the new Ghost Recon beta, it's just like I expected: it basically became The Division: Jungle Edition.
