<a href="http://www.gameaxis.com/">GameAxis</a> has gotten themselves an advance copy of <A href="http://mistmare.arxeltribe.com/">Mistmare</a>, and naturally, they decided to write a <A href="http://www.gameaxis.com/articles/view.gax?id=115">preview</a> about the alternative world game. Here's a clip:

<blockquote>An increasingly popular feature, the power to customize the hero?s abilities to suit your playing style also plays an important role in the game. There are two schools of magic - liturgy and alchemy, and various fighting styles to choose from. A fighting style (military, oriental, barbaric, Norse) is defined by your choice of weapons. The world of magic is represented in the game by three spheres, the Lunar, the Terran and the Solar. Each of these sphere governs certain attributes and by praying to their respective shrines, these attributes will be affected. </blockquote>

What if your playing style isn't just killing stuff?

Maybe I'm a thief who prefers sneaking as well.

Thinking that role playing games are just games where you need to go around killing everything you can is just silly.

No way! Being able to choose the skills for your character is something I NEVER would have thought of!

That statement leaves me confused though...what have all the other games been doing these years, and when has it NOT been popular to do so?

I know, I was just kidding. These days way too many game developers think that different game play styles = different ways of killing stuff. While it worked well for D2 due to a number of skill choices and skill strategies leading to the way you kill, it usually sucks in other games where the only choice you have is whether to kill'em fast or slow, from a distance or up close and personal.

I was about to explore the stupidity of the reviewer, but then I thought that lately there were so many reviews, article, and editorials that demonstrated without reasonable doubt that people who wrote them know shit about the subject and compensate that by making stuff up. Examples? Take the editorial about Feargus leaving at Arcadian Del Sol  My point is, don't pay attention as prolonged explosure to these sites can cause brain damage and severe attention deficit disorder.

Yeah, if it's not obvious, I was kind of being sarcastic and pointing out the obvious...you know, rhetorical question and all.

It was obvious, of course. I was not trying to answer your definitely rhetorical question though, but rather to bitch about gaming sites using your quote as a vague reference to the events in question

Phew. Thought I was getting too subtle there for a moment :).

And yeah, fully agree with what you said. Gaming media - printed and online - is going down the shithole.

    hey

^ ya, you can't really trust what they say anymore. If one puts up a good review of a game, i'm still hestitant that it will suck. There also not consistant with reviews and stuff.

I'm kind of amazed Fallout Tactics and Harbinger got good reviews. Fallout Tactics even got an RPG of the Year, which I find really odd considering it wasn't marketted as a CRPG.

What's really funny are previews, which are all pretty glowing. Then comes the game and people pan it.
