I was thinking of starting this over one the weekend but I hear the combat is kind of iffy and it does look like the style from the Arkham games... the difference is this is a guy in full metal armor dancing around like he is doing
Kapoeira

I rarely replay a game (unless it is a Stalker game with a new mod) so I was thinking to get my first experience with this game to be the best it can

So, from what I have seen the Ghost Mod and the Enchanced Edition seem to be the best mods for this game; Ghost seems to refine the whole gameplay while EE overhauls it

Since I mostly hate scaled leveling I thought EE might be my best bet but now I think that it fundamentally changes too much of the game not only the pet peeve most people have with Witcher 3 which is the combat

So, what would you guys suggest? Try the vanilla game and see how I like it or go straight for Ghost Mod or EE?

The only mod I've ever used was a mod that disabled auto-sheathing your weapon after combat. CDPR patched that option into the game though.

There's no essential mods as far as I'm concerned. I've done three playthroughs and am very happy with the vanilla game.

Still on my first playthrough, most of mine are QOL + graphics whoring:

nostory (skips Dandelion narration after booting)
RealWeather
RoachNeverStops
(because fuck chest high obstacles stopping Roach, plus Roach riding off hillls and floating is hilarious)
FastTravelFromAnywhere (obviously never use this when doing an actual quest/escorts, just merely getting from A to B)
FriendlyHUD
MapQuestObjectives

BetterTorches
BLOOD
HDReworked
Nitpicker
NoDirtLens
NoScreenWater

bold = favorites

Also, I'm actually quite liking the combat a lot more that I learned how to use the combat specials.

Vanilla refined is actually FCR3, a combat/character overhaul/unofficial patch made by one of the game's lead designers as a continuation of what the game would've been like if they had more time(think jesawyer mod)).

It's a big game so you can install more mods to fix the specific things that annoy you as you go.

Once you get annoyed by the gps-minimap navigation and quest-tracking you can install friendly hud and all map objectives on the map.

Once you get annoyed by the alchemy autorefilling there's preparations or primer.

Once you get annoyed by the loot there should be a mod to cover just about every complaint.

Crafting supplies are weightless aren't they? Pretty sure they are as I've never stored any of them. To be honest I have had zero problem with the weight limit after discovering I was picking up random 7 pound saddles and had to drop/sell them. Those are the only things outside of swords/armor that have real weight that matters in my experience.

I'm probably just breaking that shit down too often to notice. I just do it when I repair my gear.

the ghost mod
any of the many mods that eliminate durability (useless mechanic)
hud mod
any of the many mods that eliminates level requirements for using gear (useless MMO bullshit)

can't think of anything else off-hand that i'd consider essential. the stuff wrong with the game can't be fixed by mods.

oh yeah, and any of the many mods that removes level scaling and level scaled rewards.

basically:

- disable durability/item scaling/level requirements/level-based quests
- install any of the balance mods i recommend ghost mod

optional: hud shit.

i remember mods getting broken by patches and moders giving up on remaking them.
