    Longsword is by far my most-used weapon, and I absolutely agree. It's worse in co-op because they flail, charge, and retreat to different areas much more frequently. When you do manage to get off a full spirit combo or fully-charged Guillotine, half the time the monster will hip-check, backstep, or charge off elsewhere at the last second... or Lazing Dirk and his fucking hammer LAUNCH YOU INTO THE AIR RIGHT AFTER YOU DO SPIRIT THRUST.

    Even the Great Jagras is difficult to get full combos on. This is why Foresight Slash is near-mandatory to charge the gauge with any kind of speed, but it's very challenging to pull off, let alone consistently and again, especially in co-op.

    I like the idea of foresight slash, but find it basically impossible to use reliably because of the huge leap backwards. It makes it a nightmare to position so that you both get hit by the attack during your invuln frames AND land the counter AND don't get squished after the invuln frames.

    I might try doing a gimmicky aerial dual blades build instead. That spinning attack is way too fun.

    The odd thing I noticed about the longsword is that after a full combo it will auto sheathe for some reason. I thought it was something to do with the settings but even with auto sheathe off it still happens.

    I thought that I'd hate the Charge Blade, but its convoluted mechanics and intricate combos are actually fun and interesting and I instantly took a liking to it. It's like a combination of the SNS, SA, and LS in terms of pulling off moves and building gauge.

    Yes, Lazing Dirk can attest to my frequent screeching over voice chat about this part of the LS mechanics. Just keep the fucking sword out, you retarded turd! I guess it's necessary to justify the Draw Attack and Quick Sheathe armor skills or something, probably has to do with some sort of iaido-type Japanese swordsmanship themeing.

    Draw attack is great and makes a huge difference, it's why I spent time farming one of my least favourite monsters in the game, the Ogodaron.

    I must say that in general I don't understand why Affinity is such a big deal. Crits deal 25% more damage, so +20% affinity amounts to a 5% overall raw damage increase. That may be comparable to pure Attack Bonus stacking and to what food, powders, drugs, and seeds/pills give you numerically, but the thing is, weapons with a decent Affinity stat tend to have much lower Attack values to compensate. Then again, I'm aware that there's "fake damage number bloating" going on and that the actual raw damage is different than the displayed Attack number on the equipment screen.

    Blaine I think on its own Affinity is a weak stat, but its usefulness is multiplied exponentially in combination with other modifiers such as Critical Element (elemental hits can crit), Critical Boost (at lvl 3 crits do +40% more damage instead of +25%) and Weakness Exploit.

    If you're going for a crit build the Affinity Booster tool (very easy to get off of a 6x Great Girros optional quest) is pretty good.

    I cannot believe that I'm playing this shit ... but it's fucking addictive.

    The moment when I've learned how to play the game. Wasted 2 hours trying to kill the Pink menace ... alone.
    [IMG]

    [IMG]

    Then it took me 5 tries to kill Nergigante with my Water Greatsword. It was pretty intense and it took like forever because the idiot was running all around the map. I even cut his tail.
    [IMG]

    I've upgraded my Odogaron High Rank armor to the max and I went back to fuck this little shit. This was really satisfying.
    [IMG]

    I have a feeling that I will be dissapointed by my greatsword once I upgraded it to the max. At the moment is doing like 300 water damage and between 150 and 250 yellow damage when I fully hit a monster's weak point.

    I assume that is pretty bad but I really don't know if I will be able to farm the pieces to max another greatsword.

    Damage values are funky in this game, and every attack from every weapon has a hidden multiplier that it applies to damage, while the value you see on the weapon isn't its true damage, but more a representation of theoretical DPS. That said, elemental damage applies 10% of its raw value per hit with a weapon, assuming the spot you hit on an enemy has zero resistance to said element. Because of this, big hitters like Greatsword and Hammer work best using a pure raw (physical) weapon.

    Nerd shit aside, there are videos of people dick measuring with crits for well over 1,500 with the Greatsword in perfect conditions, while crits in the 500 - 600 range are not uncommon against tempered enemies. Greatsword (and most weapons) is very dependent on you being able to monster tells because it's so slow.

    My Barroth Breaker III with Elementless and Attack 1 jewels slotted in gets up past 1300 Attack with stacked buffs. I do use the Datura line of poison greatswords, but I don't think I've made any elemental heavy weapons. I'd say the greatsword was my overall favorite weapon in Tri and MHFU, but the much more unpredictable spazzing and leaping of monsters in this installment has relegated it to a weapon I use only rarely. Also, it doesn't seem to have the same vertical reach that I remember and I've seen it whiff just beneath the tail of Uragaan or a large Rathalos.

    toro You'd better get used to farming unless you plan to set the game aside. Personally, I swap weapons very frequently and have a load of Rarity 6 weapons I like to use: Two greatswords, two hammers, three longswords, a switch axe, two charge blades, two bows, a light bowgun that belongs in the trash, and several stuck at Rarity 5 either because they skip rarities in the tree or need additional farming. I might even have one or two 7s, not sure.

    Don't worry about min-maxing and measuring DPS. That's for console kiddies, autistic people, and shitters who require min-maxed equipment to compensate for being shitters. It's better to use and do what you damned well please and accept that it might take 10-20% longer to finish a hunt. Unless you're super-pressed for time, it doesn't really matter.

    Min-max is for those who want to solo speedrun, it's something to do when there's nothing left but you still want to play. It's extremely satisfying to cut down your own times when hunting a monster who used to give you a lot of grief.

    I should clarify that I'm not entirely indifferent to damage output. I begin to care when it's so indescribably bad regardless of build that there's no reason to use the weapon in any situation or for any reason, as is the case with the LBG.

    Just thinking about it makes me feel angry. What CAPCOM ought to do in future installments is call the HBG just "Bowgun" and implement a different ranged weapon instead, perhaps a fantasy throwing glaive. Shit, in previous installments there was a medium bowgun as well, as if it needs additional tiers of shit.

    People think that ranged weapons are "safer" because they can be used at range. Go solo Tzitzi in the Arena with the bow, then get back to me about how safe ranged weapons are, provided you haven't destroyed your computer and modem in a fit of rage over how obnoxious that fight is.

    I have to say, having the damage numbers is probably a massive buff to elemental damage, indirectly. It's always been really random and unclear as to how much damage you were doing in MH games, but doubly so for elemental damage. Even vs something weak vs the element, it might be taking twice the elemental damage on the body vs the feet or something dumb like that even while the physical defense is the same.

    Here's an example of a chart for a Rathalos in MHFU (even trying to find this was difficult... it seems nobody bothers finding this data any more?)
    Code:

    = Rathalos =
     __________________________________________________________  _______________
    |Hitzone  | Cut  |Impact| Fire | Watr | Thdr | Drgn | Ice  || Stagger Limit |
    |---------+------+------+------+------+------+------+------||---------------|
    |Head     |  80  |  70  |  0   |  30  |  15  |  30  |  40  ||    180 HP     |
    |---------+------+------+------+------+------+------+------||---------------|
    |Neck     |  50  |  50  |  0   |  20  |  10  |  20  |  30  ||    100 HP     |
    |---------+------+------+------+------+------+------+------||---------------|
    |Back     |  25  |  30  |  15  |  20  |  15  |  20  |  30  ||    160 HP     |
    |---------+------+------+------+------+------+------+------||---------------|
    |Stomach  |  45  |  40  |  0   |  15  |  15  |  10  |  25  ||    160 HP     |
    |---------+------+------+------+------+------+------+------||---------------|
    |Tail     |  30  |  30  |  0   |  10  |  5   |  20  |  20  ||    150 HP     |
    |---------+------+------+------+------+------+------+------||---------------|
    |Wing     |  25  |  20  |  0   |  30  |  15  |  20  |  40  ||    100 HP     |
    |---------+------+------+------+------+------+------+------||---------------|
    |Foot     |  45  |  50  |  0   |  10  |  5   |  5   |  20  ||    160 HP     |
    |_________|______|______|______|______|______|______|______||_______________|
    Rage Mode Defense: 0.9
    Now imagine trying to hunt one of these fuckers with a dragon weapon and not knowing that dragon does 6x more damage to the head than the feet, or that an ice weapon hurts the wings more than the feet but a raw weapon does the opposite.

    Getting that sub5 on solo or sub 10 solo gathering hall quests in the previous games feels really awesome and was all possible after meticulously crafting a mixed set which looked ugly as fuck but gave you the best combination of offensive skills that compliments your playstyle. That said, utilizing the sets still takes alot mastery as it means that you will discard utility or crutch skills like evasion, fast eater, etc. to get the fastest time.

    Fortunately, there's already a mod to display whatever vanity armor you wish, regardless of your current gear. Personally I'm not using it, at least not yet, but when/if I do, I'll only use it with set pieces I own. Doing otherwise would take some of the fun out of the game.

    I've discovered that if I ever want to cycle investigations, progress cultivation, progress Tailraider Safaris, and/or progress the Argosy quickly, this quest is very fast:

    https://monsterhunterworld.wiki.fextralife.com/Chef+Quest!+Pumped+to+Deliver

    My best time so far is 41 seconds. Worst-case scenario, a wingdrake drops me off in the wrong spot and then I have to visit a second fossil node, in which case completion time is around a minute and a half. I don't do this very much, but I do a handful now and then to get some non-shit investigations or whatever.

    Just reached the coral highlands and slain my first Rathalos! It managed to be the first monster to KO me but I was acting very careless, I should spend more time just watching the monsters, that was my problem in DS too... Still using the long sword, I forged every possible version I could and I rotate between them according to my limited understanding of the game mechanics.

    As for the longsword moveset itself, I find it easier to use the fade slash combo to charge up my meter, I've only been able to pull off an effective foresight slash twice against the eel-like monster. When it performs its slow-as-fuck charge, I rapidly turn to the side and do a quick thrust followed by FSS and it works pretty easily. There are a couple more monsters vs which I think I could pull this off but it's not exactly reliable. Additionally, one of the two times I managed to make it work, the fucker just merrily swam away and I was unable to capitalize.
    It's a good weapon for solo play because it has it all, reach, reasonable mix of fast and sweeping attack, very forgiving hitbox that allows for some button mashing. I still lack experience with the other 13 classes, mind you.
    I will probably stick with it unless I hit a wall or start doing some MP, even though it has its limitation I feel like I still need to train with it and get a general feel of the whole game, before I switch to something else.

    I still get the "Failed to create session" shit on first launch, but I can live with that.

    Teostra went down like a sack of shit on the first go (solo, since my usual best buddy ol' pal co-op friendo is off somewhere). Some annoying AoE attacks, but they doesn't seem to do much damage and they leave him open for a good face smashing. Worst part is figuring out which sparkles are just his fancy aura and which are actually part of an attack and will explode in your face. I bet those random sparklies are far deadlier on the tempered version.

    My biggest annoyance so far is that the game seems to be suffering from more and more slowdowns as time progresses for some reason. My room is the worst offender, where the entire room will load almost instantly, but then it takes upwards of 5 seconds to load in the pets (?!), during which it's frozen solid, and I can't even chat on comms as it's apparently raping my CPU for everything it's got. Perhaps I should move back into the smaller one, or try getting rid of certain pets. It also freezes frequently when changing gear. Oddly enough this never really happened in the first 60 hours or so, and it's running off of an SSD.

    Yep, just experienced this firsthand with Azure Rathalos: roar -> fireblast that stuns before I can recover from the roar -> second fireblast before I can recover from the stun -> faint.

    Garbage game design, fake difficulty, etc.

    There are skills that defend you from roar
    There are skills that increase amount of time you have invulnerability when you get from ground
    You can spec to defend from fire
    You can get extra health to get around this problem and stay high health all time to mitigate that.
    There are guard weapons where you can Guard from roar.

    Whole point of high rank monsters in MH games is that they are no longer do random stuff and they really like to fuck you up stringing various moves. And your job is to find right medicine to fight monster.

    When G-rank will come monsters will have more of that in their arsenal. There will be monsters that will first hit you lightly to get around you shield and then hard pound next when you are off guard and you need that Guard+ or some other skill to survive well.

    Do you have the exe process set to high priority in the task manager? I was getting random hitching and freezing during gameplay due to the high cpu utilization until I changed the process priority.

    Nope, it's set to normal. And since the game is so CPU-intensive I worry that setting it lower will screw with performance. Perhaps it just needs a restart once it starts fucking up like that, since I do tend to play for long stretches at a time.

    Also Bagel really needs to fuck right off and stop getting in the way of EVERY. SINGLE. FUCKING. MISSION. There isn't enough poop in the world. I swear he follows my investigation target around; he gets there before I do sometimes. He's a bit like a retarded kid. Maybe he's just trying to help me, but sometimes has a tard rage and attacks. Plus there's his weird screams and flailing and derpy face and uncontrolled pooping.
