I worded that wrong, try putting the process priority to high. That's what fixed it for me.

I guess I could try that. Though maybe set Discord to high as well so it actually works when it needs to. Possibly.

We've already discussed all of this. I'm well aware of the available skills and what they all do.

Mandatory armor skills are garbage. If an attack can't be avoided with player skill and instead requires armor skills to avoid, then it's trash design. Prior to this fake difficulty garbage, I could get away from roar/tremor combos in the nick of time without an armor crutch skill if I reacted quickly enough and dodged/dove in the right direction, but now they increasingly lock me into insta-faints. There's nothing to figure out, and it's not clever. It's always dead-obvious which armor crutch skills you need to use to avoid these trash combos.

Armor skills should give you more breathing room and more opportunity to do things whenever you'd otherwise be stunned/deafened/tremored/etc., not be mandatory to avoid fainting.

I'm not saying you shouldn't stack fire resistance vs. a fire monster, that's common sense, but this "Earplugs or fuck you" nonsense and similar mechanics are absolute trash. The funny thing is that using a bow very often allows you to get away with not having earplugs, tremor resistance, etc.

The Decline Lazing Dirk I've done or tried all of these things:

    • rolled back to 398.36 drivers
    • turned off Steam and Nvidia overlays
    • set maximum pre-rendered frames from 1 to 4 in Nvidia Control Panel
    • limited FPS to 140, 60, 30; also tried unlimited
    • set MHW process priority to High in Task Manager
    • turned every graphics option setting to low/off, tinkered around with them
    • tinkered around with Nvidia Control Panel settings
    • installed SpecialK mod to spoof CPU cores/some other tweaking
    • placed an .ini file in the game directory to disable motion blur

It's worth noting I've been getting 110-130ish FPS almost everywhere on max settings (sans volumetric rendering) since the game launched; the only real performance issue I've ever had was constant microstutter in Elder's Recess (due to lightning) and from lightning weapon procs and certain other particle effects. Nothing I've tried has fixed the particle effects/lightning stutter, but SpecialK at least seems to have increased my overall performance a bit. It's hardly noticeable most of the time, but any incremental performance gain is appreciated.

Why does stacking fire resistance is common sense but defending yourself from roars is not ? Or Tremor or any other something which you can stack defense for ? MH doesn't have progression system for character for that exact reason. You hunt monsters to make gear out of them to help you fight other harder monsters.

Roars are pretty shit in MHW, let's not kid ourselves. At least in older games you could roll through roars if they weren't too long even without Evade+ if you had the right timing, and though you couldn't move during a roar I feel like the stun window for a roar was somewhat shorter in MH3U so while fighting something like Gigginox or Diablos was rage-inducing due to the constant roars you were able to avoid roar combos at least without having to gear just for it. In MHW I don't think I've been able to roll through a roar even once; perhaps I just have the wrong timing.

It is possible to roll through roars, but I only managed to do so twice, don't know what are the conditions to do it.

Azure Rathalos was indeed a massive time waste because he simply refused to land for more than a couple of seconds.

Full Earplugs are a bitch to obtain when you need them the most. I have shitloads of every Bazel material but the Bazelgeuse gem thanks to unlucky RNG and the McDonald's Monopoly system of item drops.

Am I supposed to demand my co-op partners farm Bazelgeuse 20+ times with me? Am I supposed to duck out and solo for three days because I got unlucky with RNG and need a mandatory equipment set to avoid a bullshit locked-in auto-faint combo?

That's actually not even the point. The point is that player skill should always be a viable alternative. You should be able to do all of these naked with any weapon, but you absolutely cannot, because bullshit mechanics will lock you into one-hit kills.

I'd say that is true of upper rank base monsters, but I'm fine with the highest variants having specific equip requirements.

Just a PSA on this note- the health up armor skill stacks with food/consumable health, so you can get up to 200 health max if you have health up +3 and eat a full meal or chug a max potion. That's a huge fucking advantage for only 3 points of a skill.

In Freedom Unite and a couple of 3U monsters you used to be able to easily abuse the moment of invicibility ("moi") provided by a roll to bypass the roars and the infamous Plesioth hipcheck, you just needed to get the timings right. It was mostly about player skill since you could pull it off without Evade+1 or Evade Extender.

It's from 4U onwards that Capcom modified the roars, I also find it hard to naturally roll through them.

Oh look, this fight was easy as fuck with Earplugs, and about 2.5 of these minutes were spent loading cannons (that didn't get used) and screwing around in camp. Of course you get the boulder and the Dragonator, probably shaved off a minute or so.

Also, I get constant stuttering in Elder's Recess thanks to either Nshitia, CRAPCOM, or possibly both, which fucks me up because Elder's Recess is where a lot of these higher-tier pre-post-game enemies are located.

As for nice things to say about this game:

Technical issues aside, it's a beautiful game and the monsters are masterfully and intricately modeled, animated, and scripted. The ability of monsters to jump, climb, roll, tunnel and fly up and down ledges and cliffs, cling to walls, engage in special turf war animations, etc. is impressive and adds a lot of interest.

Those who played earlier installments should realize and appreciate how huge, lavish, and full of interactivity each of the five areas are compared to older (and especially handheld) MH games. Each of them has ~20 sectors on multiple levels with places to climb, leap downward, crawl through, swing on vines, spring environmental traps on monsters, etc. There are gathering points and endemic life everywhere, beautiful vistas beyond the invisible walls, etc. It's too bad they decided not to have water movement and water battles in MHW, but it's not something you'll notice if you've never played a MH with water areas.

Although there's a lot more they could have done with them for PC, the crafting, itemization, inventory management, and so on are very well done, and have had a lot of features added compared to earlier games. The ability to earn nicer quarters, place pets, and so on is a fun addition. Auxiliary systems like cultivation and safaris are about on par with those of earlier games.

Most importantly, the core of Monster Hunter is most definitely still there and fully intact. This looks, plays, and feels like a Monster Hunter game, and that's exactly what I want from a Monster Hunter game.

The game works almost flawlessly for me. No stuttering or anything else. I'm using a GTX 1060 + SSD.

Yes, Roar is the first major flaw of the game imho. 90% of the time I faint because I get hit while roar-stunned. Today I wanted to solo NiggerGigante and I think I wasted a couple of hours doing stuff which ended in me getting killed while roar-stunned. I understand that they had to make the fights more difficult but the roaring mechanic is somewhat retarded. It's happening to fast that I got stunned in mid-air a couple of times.

Which brings us to the next flaw of the game: AI + the homing attacks. They are detrimental to the otherwise superb combat. I mean NiggerGigante has this attack when he roars, he flies and then he bombdives on your position which means certain death if your sword is unsheathed. Even with sheathed weapon is hard to avoid this attack. Can I say artificial difficulty !? Unfortunately the answer is yes. I had almost perfect fights until he pulled this shit off ... and then the fight became trivial once I summoned one more player just to serve as a target for him. I still managed to solo him twice but only after I upgraded my Armor and Water Greatsword to the max.

Note 1: I read now on another forum that the attack should be expected when the monster becomes full black. Well, fuck me.

Note 2: I didn't know about the earplugs charm. This is basically a must-have item for high-rank monsters therefore all the other charms can go fuck themselves.

Last kill of the day: One Stinking Pushover. Took me like 4 tries to kill him because I ran out of health potions :) But then I came prepared and he got fucked.

While roars fucking suck, the reason they suck isn't because of how debilitating and infuriating they are, but because for whatever fucked up reason Crapcom decided to make the Earplugs Jewel a Level 3 Decoration. As if a single rank (Max level 5) is somehow on par with Piercing, Spread or Normal Shots, or Handicraft is fucking beyond me. Also, while on the topic of Level 3 Decorations, the fact that I *have* to use up a Rank 3 slot for Flinch Free so that I can actually play in multiplayer with my Lance because every fucking pink glowing Naruto wannabe faggot staggers me in between every poke drives me insane.

Well you see, the Japanese have extremely small penises. When designing a game, they slip their hands into their pants and rhythmically knead their noodles; simultaneously, they meditate on the sad reality that Japanese women essentially ceased having sex altogether once they realized how small Japanese penises were (controlling this information is why Japan was so stringently xenophobic throughout much of its history). This penis-handling meditation fills the developers with a combination of pleasure, resentment, and impotent rage, enabling them to invent ingenious and supremely passive-aggressive ways to torment players.

They knew what they were doing when they came up with these fuck-you unavoidable one-hit KO combos. It's why they make you farm Bagel Bomb for the first (and possibly only) Earplugs-granting set in the game, it's why the Earplugs jewel is level 3, and it's why the Tremor and Windproof jewels are level 2 yet grant only 1 level of tremor/wind resistance each. Meanwhile, the game gives out shitty jewels that are level 1 like candy because they're shit and no one will ever use them for any reason.

It's a hazard you'll face when playing any halfway-decent Japanese game.

The divebomb is bullshit purely because of its gigantic fucking low visibility hitbox where you have no fucking clue where the attack is active. I've had him divebomb right next to me and I'd come out unscathed without even dodging and I've had him divebomb my cat 10 feet away and fuck me up. Nergigante was my first major roadblock for this very reason. Teostra was another roadblock since I never fought him in other MH games (I'm relatively new to MH) but his difficulty is more 'fair' than rage inducing since the major attack he does that fucks up newbs has very clear visual indicators depicting both when he's about to do it and how wide the area of effect is, and the rest of his schtick is annoying but completely avoidable given practice.

Believe it or not, Barroth used to be the noobslayer back in the Tri days. I have fond memories of people on GameFAQs crying about how impossible it was to beat him.

Christ that sounds rough. I didn't play Tri but in MH3U I had much more of a difficult time than in World. Pink Rathian was a bit of a block with her 360 degree poison attack and there were a few other monsters that kicked my shit in (Lagiacrus....that one sucked ass) but on the whole I think it's a more satisfying experience than World. I never did get to G-rank though, I was like 200 hours in and just finishing up the village quests right before Ivory Lagiacrus, nevermind the online stuff.

Still, Barroth? Really? Maybe it's because I was maining lance at the time, but it's basically just block and counterthrust. Avoiding his tail is a pain in the ass as a noob but it always curves right so you just need to dodge correctly.

The only real block we've run into is Nergigante, and it's not as much a block as it is just a pain in the ass. Imagine having to fight him with your game hitching every 3-5 seconds due to Elder's Recess lightning-related particle effects lag. That's what I have to suffer through if I want the badass Nerg insect glaive, and I do, so I will.

I've gotten excellent at dodging/emergency diving all of his attacks, but the problem is that windows to deal damage to him are few and short, and usually end up with me getting smacked in the face since he can turn near-instantly and leaps everywhere constantly. It's not that I can't figure out when to "not be greedy" and break off my attack, it's more that I'd rather get a bit more damage in and eat an attack. Forget about finishing a combo on him. I've looked up videos of streamers soloing him, sometimes fairly quickly, and they by and large can't land full combos on him either aside from relatively quick SA discharge spam.

I may resort to cheese strategies such as maxed-out Meowlotov Cocktail with maxed Palico Rally skill and a fully shielded HBG, so that I can sit there being retarded and just wait him out.

If there's one thing that really annoys me overall, it's that monsters in this game can rage for minutes at a time, then they're exhausted/drooling for all of about five seconds before springing around everywhere again.
