So I'll get it as a gift or something. Actually I was going to buy it either way. I just saw an ad for it at Wal Mart, didn't know it was coming out in less than 2 weeks.

I'm replaying the original in anticipation and to remind myself of the story. Anyone else doing the same?

For anyone that's interested, the Starcraft 2 manual is available here.

edit: Turns out it's just an install guide, although interestingly it contains a multi-page story synopsis of the sort Blizzard is famous for.

I never played it the first time:) Don't know why, it never really appealed to me. Was more of a C&C man in those days.

I always preferred Red Alert to Warcraft II but I still got into Starcraft in a big way. Pretty much all I played for six months, until I found Fallout 2.

I can't remember the last time I paid for a video game.

60 bucks just doesn't seem worth it anymore.

brood war's superior to SC2 in almost every way (graphics and accessability are the only 2 things SC2 has going for it...), I don't see why so many fans of the original are hyped up about it. It really baffles me, a few years ago team liquid and the likes were praising SC1 as the greatest game ever, and the general consensus was that it was a one in a million fluke that it turned out like it did - now they're so eager to abandon it for a hyped up casual game that's basically indistinguishable from any other shiny RTS.

this. it has cute graphics and so but blizzard was trying too hard imho. There is nothing new and most stuff is 'streamlined' (i don't count here multiple units/building, but things like lack of reavers and lurkers.)

They could have at least add a new race (and sell another campaign lol).

my favourite is tiberian dawn. ^^

I never really liked SC. I always preferred WC2, and when WC3 was released I started playing that instead.

SC2 however is really, really good. But it requires a lot from the player just like the original. If you're not experienced you'll get steam-rolled by the average player.

I only play Terran. Protoss are cheaters and Zerg have boring units (except infesters - the coolest unit in the game).

By the way, does anyone know if Blizzard will sell it on battle.net or something?

Literally just got done reinstalling it before coming here. Aside from that, I'm watching a lot of SCII replays on Youtube following some of the better players. You can see wicked tactics, when their opponent isn't an idiot whose entire plan falls back on 'Seige Tank, Siege Tank, Siege Tank, Siege Tank' etc.

I'm actually going to play the game before I judge it. But you two feel free.

Beta is pretty much the finished game at the moment.

Siege tanks are my favorites! [IMG]

I waited for SC2 but somehow after the beta I now have to force myself to care. Probably got burned out on all these same-y copy-pasted RTS'es over the years.

At least I hope the campaign will be somewhat entertaining - that may warrant not removing it from an inventory. As Blizzard promised that it won't be just a collection of skirmishes and all.

I encountered an annoying tactic today, my enemy floated a command center over the top of a seige tank. This made it virtually impossible to click on the damn thing to command my units to attack it.

Yes, they will. You can even download the client and just wait for the 27th to pay and unlock it.

to be fair the single player campaign could be a 3 hour popamole interactive movie and the multiplayer could suck total dick and i d still purchase it alone because of the editor, because thats most likely where i ll spend most of the next 1-2 years of my gaming free time, if starcraft & warcraft 3 s editors were any indication....

that being said i m optimistic the singleplayer will be at least enjoyable if not great.

From what I have seen (there are custom maps in the beta) it is more flexible than the previous editors.

    I got rickrolled in a custom SC2 map :(

Yes the editor is much better than any other Blizzard has made, but the way bnet 2's designed seems a little limiting. correct me if I'm wrong, but you can only have 5 "free" maps at any given time (you can make them free or you can charge for them) and the way the public accesses them is very different than what you'd expect; it's hard to explain but basically there's a 'list' of custom games and people find them through that list (it's no longer: creator host game --> people dl map --> people spread map (if it's good)).

Yeah the list is a bit weird. It puts the popular ones at the top too, so if your map is not popular it will be hard to find.

i m a bit confused (didnt play the beta), do you mean i cant just go to some SC2 fansite and download some custom map to play in singleplayer like it worked for SC1 and WC3 ? or were you just talking about MP custom maps ?
