Jack Emmert granted another interview about Cryptic's upcoming Online Multiplayer Game, Neverwinter.

Eurogamer: How are you interpreting the Dungeons & Dragons rules?

Jack Emmert: I would say we're being inspired by D&D, not slavishly trying to copy. Where possible we're trying to use the abilities and powers and monsters and some of their behaviours. But it's not going to be a one-to-one correspondence.

For instance, there's no two-hit roll. We've used boons in a slightly different manner. Hit-points aren't exactly the same. But, by and large, the structure is similar. It's not turn-based.

Eurogamer: Oh, it's action-based? Are there discernible turns - is it all based on a dice-roll system?

Jack Emmert: There are dice rolls going on, but it's not turn-based in the sense that you can pause it. You target something, you attack, you swing. The random aspect is going to be how much damage you do, and that's affected by your feats and abilities.

It's not an action-RPG, but it's also not straight D&D where you roll a die to hit.

The 4E rules already read like they were made with computer games in mind in order to emulate wow-like combat. Find it ironic that a wow-like 4E game is tossing these rules out the window.

So far all the press about this game makes it sound like a train-wreck, I'm not sure about what kind of game it is nor who it's targeting.

I doubt a single player campaign thrown together at the last minute would save neverwinter's sales this time.

Clearly it's all about review scores. Interesting QA method, though.

It would have to be as DA redefined the RPG in this way. Without visceral combat a game is nothing.

As most of the user comments on the interview said, who is this game for? Removing singleplayer and charging a fee for simple co-op? A "story focused" game by Cryptic of all people? The "stories" I experienced during free trials of Champions and Star Trek Online basically amounted to "go collect these things, you collected them thank you."

This game sounds like it's going to be pretty bad for what it is.

I'd like to see him play chess real-time with "pause". rtwp will never be a substitute to TB.

He wouldn't listen to them anyways. As evidenced by them doing a D&D game and making it as non D&D possible. And, people bashed BIO for the 'liberties' they took. L0LZ

This game will be shit. Cryptic are the worst MMO developers by far - everything they've released has been utter crap... even by MMO standards (possible exception to CoH which was just ok). They're like the Uwe Boll of game developers... :decline:

How exactly would you go around implementing TB/RTWP in a fucking MMO [IMG]?

    Second reality check:

You can "pause" in TB by simply...not choosing your next action until you feel like it
