I'd give it a go, but I don't know what all those wacky symboles are supposed to represent. :o

Holy crap! I've always wanted to play such a game (I don't know why, actually :)) If only I had time to really try it...

Just tried it. Its kind of a supa-lite rogue-like, so all of the interesting bits that ADOM, Angband and co have, have been stripped out of it.

    I guess you should expect that of a doom-based rogue-like I guess... :?

Entirely too cool. I love Doom, hell I even have a DuckDoom game, it's Duck Hunt from the old Nintendo but using Doom I weapons :)

    I'll definitely look into this.

It would have been interesting if Doom - the Roguelike actually used Doom's source code and iwads for the graphics as opposed to ASCII, but kept everything else the same.

I be calm like tiger balm.

I liked the ASCII drawings. It takes quite a bit of effort to make those, and they turned out looking good.

The game is much simpler than the top tier roguelikes, but I do enjoy its ready-to-play aspect. It's a good coffee-break game, but I wouldn't mind seeing a more advanced version of DoomRL.

Interesting that you would mention something like that Saint... I'm currently working on a Doom 3 RPG mod. It's going to feature an overhead view with a point and click interface and it will use an action point system for combat. It will also feature a brand new style of character creation (which I'm going to keep under wraps for now) and it will have a character advancement and skill system of my own design.

I will only be using the art assests that come with the game. I will not be adding anything but code. I will be using the same levels, models, etc, but I will be changing the scripting of those items. At least that's the current theory; since I've just started up on this a few days ago I'm sure some things might change.

Though the game I'm going to make isn't going to be a roguelike. I'm looking for more of a full-fledged RPG. The story will be part of the Doom universe but not quite as actiony. The story will start out that the portal to Hell was unable to be closed (it seems to be a permanent rift in the fabric of space-time) and a few hundred years have passed. Now that the world has been taken over by the demons. There has been intermingling between demons and humans, so there will be cross-breeds. The story isn't fully fleshed out yet, but since I'm still working on the basic RPG framework I have a while before having to worry about the story too much. I can add and subtract from it whenever I get new ideas. Anyway, enough of me pimping myself because it would be especially embarassing if I never finish the project, doh!

Been playing this little game for the last few days. Usually roguelikes don't really hold my attention, but doom has managed to keep me enthralled. Doom 1 is and will always be the game that sucked a huge portion of my early teens away, and this is just nostalgia. Nostalgia added with new stuff like character devellopment, walls that wither away, gameplay that is just soo fucking hard and somehow a feeling of "being there". Dunno, I'm loving it...even though I haven't been able to get past level 2 (but I insist on entirely cleaning the levels) Great coffee break/boring sunday game and worth the attention.

The new version plays great if you like roguelikes. With the original music you just feel the old atmosphere. It's funny; the author even drew ascii pictures of every monster.
But I don't know if it's finishable right now. I only managed to get to level 4 - I just played once and simply have to get some sleep now.
