Seriously. Anyone complaining about the screenshot is a complete fucking moran.

There are far more other issues besides a screen shot to discuss about a cRPG.

Bingo. Anyone can dump a 3D model into a game engine cough cough :?.
It is the game behind the art that is important (well to me anyway :().

->> Character creation, options, how the combat works, the turn based system.

Art sells the deal and the gameplay seals the deal.

That is essentially true for me as well. I'd rather they skimp on graphics than gameplay. As long as the graphics aren't horrible and the art direction is solid I'll be fine with most anything (it's not as if I'd ever played WL1 for the graphics as much as I came to appreciate them for what they were).

Seriously. What sort of brain disease do you have to constantly complain when people discuss the topic of a news post? Or for 99% of your posts to be comments on other people's posts. Get a life already.

Except all we have to go on is the graphics themselves.

When they release something with gameplay we'll bitch about that just as pathetically as we do about graphics, okay?

What, this and this aren't enough? Maybe there's just nothing to bitch about there.

All theory.

We only bitch about the shiny "Done-ish!" stuff, neh?

Lack of imagination, all of us.

Who cares man, it's a screenshot of a building. It looks good. That's all there is to say. Is posting something that the developers possibly weren't ready for people to see the kind of thing that would encourage them to work with us or give us exclusive content in the future? No, it indicates that we're ready to throw them under the bus for a half-finished alpha screenshot. Very poor judgement on making this a news article.

I really don't look how it looks like but then again I don't think wasteland 2 is catering to people that give half a shit about graphics, so I don't think this is throwing them under the bus. Certainly it is unfair to judge from a screenshot not intended for the public but most people realize they can still improve and again their target audience don't care a lot about graphics.

Maybe you are afraid that something similar could happen to you and your game but I think some negative feedback it's worth the risk. If it's worth something, I already like how your game looks and if you manage to even improve that I will be super happy. I care about graphics in the sense that I don't care about technology but I'm really happy if the game manages to look interesting, there are many older game that I feel are still pleasant to look at (unlike many modern AAA productions) If you start releasing screenshots or info about your game you have 100% incur in negative feedback, some of it legit, some of it coming to complete shitheads, but that's just how thing are- be glad that you have supporters (myself included) and don't let the criticism get to your head.
ps I think shadowrun whatever looks bad too, that dwarf model look bland as hell

Looks good enough for me, now I'm waiting for something more important - leaked gameplay.

Perhaps it'll even include a nice watermark so we can be assured that is was unofficially officially leaked.

You mean people only complain about stuff that's actually bad and give detailed instructions on how they think it can be improved? What madness is this? It's almost like they are getting free critiques of their art to help them improve or something.

You're right, this shit sucks too. 6 separate skills for shooting guns, really?
Is this some kind of meta-trolling?
I remember when we made fun of Oblivion for merging Spears and Hammers into a single skill, and then again in Skyrim for merging Short Blades and Long Blades (terrible move) into a single skill, going so far as to joke that the sequel will only have three skills: Magickan, Fightan and Thievan.

You have it all wrong, Moribund. Critiques are only given to smash people to dust.

Wasteland 2 is beneath our fists, as I understand it.

I wasn't really approaching it from the position of a game maker. I really don't care if images of my game leak because I think the potential for speculation and misinformation can be very funny and fun. I was contrasting the value of the image - virtually nothing - with the damage it could cause to RPG Codex's relationship with developers. If this had been a substantial piece of information like mechanical details or class information or a world map or pictures of combat, then yes, that would warrant a news article. This is possibly the most boring Wasteland picture we will see, though, and to say we have the exclusive scoop on some worthless picture is a tremendous display of hubris. Every time journalists reveal something that is not ready to be revealed, it is a slap in the face. To slap inXile in the face over something so trivial I think exacerbates any damage it might have done. Maybe they will never know, which I am hoping, but it really seems like something that has the potential to have repercussions.

A lot of times splitting weapon skills like that is pointless. What was stupid about Oblivion was that it considered axes "blunt" weapons (spears don't exist in the game).

It wasn't really a "leak", you know. I was just attention whoring. Shacknews just uploaded the image to their site a day before they uploaded the article that used it.

Trust me, there are no repercussions. Far from it. You're really being very silly about this.

We definitely complained about the "blunt spears" but we usually also pointed out that a reduction in the amount of skills can lead to oversimplification of the skill system. Ideally, if you have so many skills, they'd related to weapons with vastly different uses and pros and cons to justify it. When you leave out weapons that are so diverse and different there's no point to splitting the skill. So I think a few people saw it as a carte blanche to make the weapons all work the same. (For example, they removed the way certain attack styles did more damage from Oblivion).

. . . RPG Codex's relationship with developers . . . tremendous display of hubris . . . slap in the face . . . slap . . . trivial . . . damage . . . repercussions.
In time, you'll understand that this den of scum just doesn't care. With patience, it'll even become natural for you to react accordingly.

The amount of weapon skills is perfectly fine. You can have a scout, a demolitions expert with some basic rifle skills, an anti-tank guy, a machinegunner, a sniper, and so on. If they're shooting for combat that resembles JA2 at least a little bit, more elaborate weapon specialization is the right way to go. It also allows more interesting party compositions than "five gun guys and one melee guy".

So I can become the master of a Sniper Rifle and headshot foes miles away while I am asleep, but even thinking about pulling the trigger of a shotgun makes the weapon explode in my hand.
Makes sense.

Would be interesting to see some weapons utilize more than one skill a la Anarhy Online. Revolver with a scope would require sniper+pistol, H&K Caws would run on shotgun+ assault rifle etc.

Basically the more exotic and modded the weapon the more specialized guy you need to operate it, since accuracy and damage multipliers are divided between several skills.

Depends on how the skills are implemented, really. Simply hitting a target the size of a human with a rifle or a shotgun is pretty easy in real life regardless of your experience, so a master sniper probably wouldn't shoot himself if a knee if you handed him a shotgun. Still, being a master of a weapon entails many other aspects, like the ability to control the recoil, disassemble, assemble and maintain the weapon, reload it swiftly, fire accurate shots in rapid succession even from suboptimal positions or when moving, hit mobile targets and so on. Although some synergy between sniper and shotgun skills would make sense since being an expert with a weapon would probably let you grasp the basics of another weapon pretty quickly, they're still weapons that function very differently and are suited for completely different situations. The sniper will generally take single, composed shots from a mile away whereas shotgun combat is usually at a close range and favors good moblity and reactions rather than plain accuracy. They definitely should be split into separate skills.

Of course, the weapon skills in WL2 will most likely just govern how likely you are to hit a target and little else (have there been any news about this yet?) but you can't have everything.
