I am surprised no one asked this yet (did I miss something?), so I will. Which C64 emulator would you people recommend?

CCS64 always worked for me. But then i only ever played Alter ego on it so i don't know if that's a great test.

Vice.

Also, I happened to play the Enhanced Newcomer version several years ago (when it was still downloadable at their old site) - the game is GREAT, like a succesful merge of the best elements of Dragon Wars (multiple solutions to most situations, consequences to your choices), Wasteland (deep skill system, somewhat similar post-apocalyptic setting) with a branching dialogue system as well.

I'm eagerly awaiting the new version.

I always had the best luck with CCS as well especially when it came to mapping joysticks. For some reason I always had issues with VICE.

On of the reasons why they are able to do these magnificent hacks is because the platform is unchanged and after 10 years they have been using a stable platform and been able to completely learn the architecture and come up with new ways of exploiting the hardware.

and for amiga

Dos, with a 64k size limit WITH ray tracing! Who the fuck needs a GPU!
http://pouet.net/prod.php?which=5

Now a days however the GPU does almost everything so the best way to make a challenge is to limit yourself within a sizecoding.

The executables for this one is 4K, an empty word document is bigger then that.

*(If you don't want to download the exe you can click on the youtube, demoscene.tv or capped.tv links for a video capture)
**(also 4K demo usually gives anti-virus programs false positives)

While I agree, just to be fair sceners usually cheated on every possible occasion they could (not that it's a bad thing, it's part of the trick). Making a game out of these would be a bit different thing.

I have Vice on our PC, Xbox1 & Wii and it still hasn't failed me. If you happen to have a Symbian phone Frodo should work there, ditto for DS.

And also for Android, http://www.pcauthority.com.au/News/1482 ... phone.aspx

Fuck do I get annoyed when they use the term ROM for C64 or Amiga disks or files...

who's shit alt is CreamySpinach? Is it Prosper?

It seems like there's a few new accounts everyday and I usually don't bother trying to figure it out. Prosper was obvious awhile ago though. I'm not sure why some people keep making new accounts, it makes no sense.

I was an Atari 800 guy, and a Vic-20, never owned a C64 for some reason although that's what I first played Ultima on if memory serves me correctly.

Hey people, sorry for the thread necromancy, but I was wondering if any of you knew what became of the ultimate version. I have been trying to access the official site for some time, but the connection times out before I get any answer. Any ideas?

I check it out every few days. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Last time I've been there they supposedly entered the last testing stages of the localized versions or sth like that.

But yeah, it's the second time now I tried to go there and it's down. This doesn't bode well.

edit: This page is still up, but with no new info.

Well, if it is an intermittent thing, I figure it is probably ok. I was afraid there were specific problems and they had given up. Thanks, Elwro.

You don't really see new c64 titles these days with anything, but most rudimentary GFX.
Does it mean that you haven't played Knight'n'Grail? :rpgcodex:
