The turnout for Xenogears is more than I expected. Cool beans; didn't think too many others had an appreciation for that one. At the time of its release, I remember people bitching about how long it was, and that it wasn't another Final Faggasy game.

Also, looking back, I probably garnered enough enjoyment out of FF8 and 6 to add them to my list, but I can't edit my post, so yeah. Put me down for those two, too. Or not. Ain't no thang.

    lol only weaboo i've played.

Would only really want to put 9 and tactics on the list though. 9 seemed to capture the feel of what FF tries to be best and tactics is actually good on its own. Maybe 12, had good combat, even though I would have liked sticking with turn-based more, but was basically glorified singleplayer mmo.

Adjust my list to include golden sun. Playing it now, and it seems pretty complex (for what it is).

Edited my list and I included Baldur's Gate PSOne unreleased version that was almost finished and is floating on net (the REAL DEAL, not a spin-off crap).

Also added Diablo, because it was released on console.

    Problem?

(Also, if anyone likes first Might&Magic, it was released on NES, as well as Sir-Tech's Wizardry 1-2 for NES, Might&Magic 2 for SNES, M&M 3 for SNES, Ultima Underworld for Playstation).
Surely, they are some of the best console RPG's.

Rasputin, I like to think that you're smart enough to note that there is a HUGE difference from BG as a fully patched mouse & keyboard PC game and BG as a PSONE beta, played with a psx controller. They are not the same game, at all. Deus Ex had a PS2 release as well, that meant that most areas were divived in 2 or 3 parts, the UI was completly retarded and it had a massive, unremovable auto-aim that turned ever shot into headshot. If you also think it was a great game, ad it as well.

I am hoping that the rest of the voter will be smart enough to understand the difference and make your vote pointless, but if not, well, it's still a portrait of the Codex tastes...

As for games like Wizardry & Might and Magic on consoles, yeah, they actually were very good.

There was this Japanese game where first went through the game as a stereotypical hero then came back as a nobody and retraced your steps. Does anyone know the name of that?

I played Baldur's Gate on a PSOne console. It didn't sacrificed anything in terms of content, only it's a bit slower (obviously it needed optimizing) and graphics are somewhat worse. Otherwise, it's 1:1 copy of PC version (except graphics), and you can play it from start to finish. There are some very noticeable bugs, but you may or may not encounter them.

Edit: oops, vote thread only. Sorry.

Protip: refrain from spamming the djinn during battle, they're unbalanced as fuck and can make any battle a cakewalk (double defense for five turns with no drawbacks other than minor stats penalty, for example).

    Planescape: Torment

    gonna need more details, bro

    No specific order.

    Chrono Trigger
    FF 4
    FF 5
    FF 6
    Seiken Densetsu 3
    Breath of Fire 2
    Dragon Quest 5
    Lufia 1
    Lufia 2
    Tales of Phantasia
    Star Ocean
Tactics Ogre: Let's something together I forget
    Shining Force 1
    Shining Force 2

I'd include Breath of Fire 1 but the soundtrack is so annoying I could barely replay it recently. Although somehow I managed to finish it again. Someone said Parasite Eve, which when I borrowed someones Play Station for a week was the only game worth playing, but was it really RPGy? I forget I forget again. Weird and engaging but seem to remember being more of a mystery adventure with shootans.

Vagrant Story (I would give all of my votes to this game if I could)
    Valkyria Chronicles
    Uncharted Waters 2: New Horizons
    FFVI
FFX (best battle system trumps gimmicky leveling system)
Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume (loses einherjar development, but the branching story approach is done really well)
    Shadowrun (SNES)
    Shadowrun (Genesis)
    Chrono Trigger

Honorable mentions for terrific games that are almost rpgs to me, but not quite rpg-ish to vote for
