Don't worry, kingcomrade. There are people on the forum other than you who understand grammar. The sentence was just plain grammatically wrong.

It's not a matter of "trying," I understand perfectly what you are saying.

It's still wrong.

Nobody fucking talks like that and the retard switched his persons in the middle of the sentence because he's a dimwit not because he's a super genius at exploiting the mechanics of the English language. You only have to read those two sentences out loud to hear how absurdly arranged the one is. Grammatically correct and correct are not the same thing. If the sentence doesn't make sense it is semantically incorrect, and therefore gramatically incorrect.
Kingcomrade, it's not a matter of switching persons. You may switch persons any number of times.
1. You (2nd person) are a fucking moron
2. Who (3rd person) has nothing better to do than to bitch about a game
3. That he's (3rd person) not going to buy anyway.

He didn't switch persons in the middle of the sentence. 3 is an adjective clause of the second sentence. Therefore, the pronouns in phrase 3 should accord with the subject of phrase 2, not 1, to be semantically corect.

It is a matter of switching persons. Once again, nothing you've said so far has been beyond my comprehension. It's still wrong. There's a difference between descriptive speech and direct address.

God, this argument is getting so fucking old. You're shilling for some retard out of spite and pretending it's righteousness.

I am convinced it will be the worst THING ever.

I can't help but laugh at the empty headed losers who feel the need to vigorously defend it. At first I was puzzled, but since then I have simply come to loose all respect for these people. I have never seen a game where even the marketing and fud is only the barest bandaid on their own idiocy and lack of respect for their audience's intellect.

Sorry, too, but this is not an RPG. There have been games like this around for ages, but they are called arcade games. Video games. Beofre everyone started lumping PC games in with console games and calling them video games as well, they were highly different than console games. Now we have crossplatform crap like kotor and oblivion. Console garbage is mainly aimed at preteen children, with the mroe advanced titles aimed at 15 year olds. It may sound insulting, but by golly, this is simple fact. If any adult can play something like kotor or oblivion and get any true enjoyment out of it, then I worry at what a loser they are.

Here's the cue for the subliterate fanboys (It shockes me to the core there are not only people who will play the game and enjoy it a little, but people who are rabid fans) to tell me not to knock it til I try it. Well, I don't have to fuck Rosie O'Donnel to know I am not attracted to her. I don't want any herpes ridden skanks either, no matter if they Have Radiant Smile whitening and huge tracts of land. If Oblivion were a woman with a personal ad, she would be a crackwhore skank with aids, with big silicon tits and an obviously airbrushed picture where she still looked fugly as hell, and with broken English and ebonics all over her profile....

haha, one of the funniest things i've ever read, even on these forums.

what's with you people? i can not believe somebody can be so bitter and anal about these things. and here it's not just you that's anal, but almost entire population of this forum. calling people "losers" for liking oblivion (or any other computer game) is one of the funniest, dumbest and most hilariously pretentious things you can come across on any message board.

True, but being pretentious helps keep up the confidence after a hard day's work slaving for your boss that you like to think of as incompetant so you don't face the reality that s/he's smarter and more successful than you'll ever be, then going home to an empty house / an ugly spouse / your drug-addicted children / your parents.

Alright I've had time to think (and calm down :)), and it's not 2 A.M. so I can be a bit more articulate, and your last post helped, Lumpy.

"Who" is a pronoun for dumbass or moron or whatever the word was. As you probably know, "who" marks the beginning of a restrictive clause. Who refers to dumbass, not to "you." The mistake you've made, which I didn't see yesterday, was that you were messing up the scope of the clause. The restrictive clause started by "who" only restricts the description of the "moron." It does not restrict the description of "game."

"Game that he's not going to play anyways" is one object. It isn't set into the restrictive clause. I could replace "game that he's not going to play anyways" with just "game". "He" does not refer to "dumbass" it refers to "you" because the subject in the restrictive clause is not relevant to defining which game (you don't know who the dumbass is unless you expand your scope to the entire sentence). (this is why I kept saying the word "semantics" over and over) My mistake earlier was that I didn't make this clear, that he was using one pronoun to replace another, not that there was no antecedent.

One last thing I need to stress again is that this is direct address, the semantics of which does not follow the same rules as descriptive language. Think of it this way. You are removing your description by three times away from your original subject, even though it refers to the same thing. You can't do this because you've never switched who you are addressing. You are still talking to "you" not to "dumbass" and any descriptions that involve your doing or being something has to be about "you" and not the abstracted description. You are thinking in terms of nested instances which isn't how language works. edit: (I know I'm using computer terminology but it's much easier for me to articulate what I mean using them)

It's been forever since I did pronoun and clause exercises, thanks for the opportunity :)

What I can't believe is that there is never a shortage of people who have nothing better to do but to register so they can tell us how much we suck for criticizing something.

Yes, Oblivion sounds like a crappy game. Yes, most people who are excited about the bloom and the forests and celebrity voices are morons. Looks like you are one of them - congratulations. You can be on your way now.

well, to use your own language - you seem to be the moron here. how do you know why i registered? who told you you suck because of criticizing? either your idea of "criticising" is painfully wrong - because you misunderstand bitching and boring pseudo-cynical whining for criticism, OR you just don't understand what i stated with my post.

that oblivion sounds like a crappy game is your opinion and i have no problem with that. you're entitled to that. but to be so sure about your judgement is naive - to say the least. things are never that simple, not even computer games.

what i find so incredibly arrogant is the fact that people here JUDGE so much - not rarely other people on these boards - i "judged" in my posts as well, just to try and put into perspective general behaviour on these boards. it's all funny and a bit annoying as well, yes. but only idiots are not aware that nobody posesses THE knowledge to be able to judge anything actually. and members of these forums seem to take pride in their sky-high IQ.

other than that, it's really funny how many things you assumed and dreamed up when responding to my post. you probably respond to some imaginary stereotype you made up in your mind.

take things for what they are and relax dudes :).

EDIT: one more thing, this time serious: you said that people who are excited about forests are idiots. i am one of those idiots. so i have a question for you: is aesthetic without substance possible?

well, if you're making fun of oblivion fans, then ha-ha. it is sort of funny, yes, because lots of those kids are that way. but this has nothing to do with the game itself or possibly good discussions. it's just pointless.

First, would it kill you to use capital letters every now and then? Second, it's possible that you registered here in hope to find the elusive free porn you've heard so much about, but your first post was dedicated to bitching about bitching. Third, you may have your own, very original ideas about what criticism is and isn't, we just don't give a damn.

but to be so sure about your judgement is naive - to say the least. things are never that simple, not even computer games.

The BASTARDS!!! How dare these people to form opinions that may offend one like you?

You would like that, wouldn't you? Well, the truth is, we don't really give a fuck. I'm sure you think that you are the most original forum invader ever, but we've seen way too many kinds to care. You people all look the same to us.

 how old are you? i expected to get at least SOMETHING from your post to reply to. but replying to this would be an utter waste of time. people who don't try to understand are much worse than the ones who just don't understand.

oh, and you didn't answer my question. of course.

Reading posts from people like you is the same as hitting level 15 in Morrowind ... it so BORING.

people with no brains are often bored - most of the time they fail to see content in anything, and dwelling in an emptiness of one's own mind is very boring indeed, i agree.
