Going for a classic fantasy setting seems a bit boring, however we don't know anything about it yet. If they manage to create something that would be comparable to what they did in Mask of the Betrayer in terms of atmosphere and writing it will be awesome. If they manage to throw in some half-way decent combat (even if it's RtwP) it will be even better.

GO Obsidian!

Sadly George Ziets, creative mind behind MotB, don't work at Obsidian atm.

If they go into touchy themes they will probably handle it like in New Vegas(ie. "he's gay but who cares?").

Rtw/P is a boner kill. It was the original popamole way to stuff more mindless trash combat into a game without making you involuntarily retch, the kind of mainstream compromise that I would rather not infect Kickstarters, particularly Kickstarters from quasi-mainstream developers.

So, they are still leaving some space for a group of old talented ultra-orthodox developers to make a real traditional RPG with turn-based combat and party creation.

I pledged blindly before noticing that it's steam only.
I suspect that they got some deal with Gabe. Otherwise why would they force you to use steam?

I don't have steam and I don't care. I'll probably be going for the 250$ tier (if not then for the $140 tier for sure) and play it without steam. "modders" will fix it :smug:

Would be sweet to have a TB mode as a stretch goal.
If not, well I'm ok with RTwP too.

TB mode is unlikely. RTwP is obviously "the thing" I mentioned I didn't like. I'm not fond of RTwP in general.

Still, everything else about it kicks ass pretty much. Will have to watch how the setting works out, but fantasy is not automatic fail. Crowd-pleasing! PC exclusive!

Do you know if it is powered by the Onyx Engine, Brother None (pretty likely I take it). I have horrible memories trying to play Dungeon Siege 3 on a new computer...

100 potatoes were shipped to Obsidian. It might suck, but the Fallout(s), PS:T, Arcanum and F3: NV did not :P

Also I'm happy that the money will go straight to Obsidian. No more metacritic shit.

And now is time to burn down the fat. 2014 is achievable.

ugh, RTwP
My excitement suddenly dropped a lot.

Aaaand another Obsidian game with mediocre combat, although I'd like to be proven wrong.

Still, you can't be too picky about CRPGs these days

Uh oh.. I hope they have optimized it a bit more this time around.. I especially remember many soundbugs and glitchy resolutions.

We have Wasteland 2 for the TB + party creation

We'll have this as a nostalgic BG2, ID and Torment retread.

We'll have them BOTH. What's not to like?

Seriously if you had mentioned this on the Codex a year ago, that we would have the possibility of playing these games in the reasonable future, we would have laughed at you and scared you away with pitchforks.

Heh I thought you were talking about the absence of full party creation.

Personally RTwP doesn't bother me much because I loved IWD 1 & 2. But no full party creation is a bit of a bummer.

Hopefully mods will fix it. :P

Combat uses a tactical real-time with pause system

O tempora, o mores.
I apologise for writing these words, but fuck you, Obsidian. Sincerely, FUCK. YOU.
Am I supposed to be appreciative of this idea? You're playing it safe and designing the combat system with the lowest common denominator in mind, obviously forgetting you're not pitching your game to a publisher anymore. Men in suits deemed the TB combat "outdated & antiquated", yet here you are, following the exact same "something marketable needed" philosophy to the letter. Why take advantage of the sodding opportunities Kickstarter provides if you're reluctant to stand out from the mainstream crowd?

As far as I'm concerned, it's almost a deal breaker.

I never realized how delusional you manchildren are.
Obsidian makin nu toy!
Who gives a shit?!

Its another larping simulator which has hilariously broken combat so that a child of the age of 10 can break and exploit it.
It has writing set in a fantasy world because fantasy... erm, yeah, fantasy brings the awesome to writing, for teenage assburger nerds whose experience with literature is limited to Twilight and Harry Potter.
And it will be as ugly as Alphaturd.

I might would have pirated it, if the marsch was actually a swamp and they'd present decent screenies later but who am I kidding - it will be a 3d engine with typical flat, dead lighting.

Arrrrr Teeeeeeeeeeeeeee wit Peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee?!?!?!

:rage:

I'll pledge the minimum because they're trolling all the smug 'I don't use Steam' hipsters. I'm sure they'll cave and have a DRM free version, though.
