It's ok, imo. Less clicking arrows near the paper doll or portrait or w/e the BG2 interface was.

Yeah, i just wanted a summary of what has been said without all the dumbfuckery that came with that, and was wondering if i got it right. Dont really care about how the game handles it tho, balanced weapons is one of the stupidest concepts ive heard of, so dont hold much hope for it in PE.

It's something like "degree of woundedness", i.e. how badly the opponent is wounded.

Can you see how badly your opponent is wounded, or is the player left in the dark about that? "Project Eternity lets you adjust all that, and that also varies depending on the difficulty you've chosen," clarifies Sawyer.

Fantastic, I can choose BG1 style!

They didn't get take a pic of the companion portraits !!!

    :rage:

    :bounce:

So far we've heard of Strength, Constitution, Intellect ... seeing a pattern here ? :smug:

I am interested in what's been done with the "Dexterity" bonuses, since Deflection and Reflex are now derived from different attributes. Would you give Deflection to "Wisdom" ? or would you bring in a new attribute for it.

I don't know if you backed Double Fine Adventure but in their latest episode they covered VO. They took footage from the first VO recording session (which was in August?). Apparently they're doing more session(s) later on.

I wouldn't be surprised if they're doing something similar. Getting in some Player voice sets and a couple of NPC actors for the gameplay video.

Player voice sets, incantations and Chanter chants are something that if all the lines are designed, they won't have to change later.

There's a lot of talk that voice acting costs a lot of money, so that it is unsuitable for lower budget games. I wonder however, are there no amateur voice actor or even crazy fans who'd do it for little? I mean, you'd screen them for acting ability of course but it seems to be that it could work with the potentially huge amount of available people there are.

It's worked very well for some movies to get people without experience. Think beasts of the southern wild and such.

There are a few more images that Duraframe didn't post. Maybe they're old, but I don't remember ever seeing 'em before. Looks like they failed to get a picture of the character portrait

In the recent DFA documentary episode the casting director said that Broken Age has the lowest VO budget of any LucasArts/Double Fine game she's worked on, and they managed to get in more VO than some of the past games. She talked about not hiring celebrities for a pay day and getting actors that just love voice acting who'll work for a bit less (or something along those lines). They still managed to get Jennifer Hale and Grey De'Lisle in there as well.

That said I don't know if Eternity would end up with celebrities like Jack Black donating their voice for free but hey, you never know.

I also recall reading that their VO guy is pretty talented and did a lot of (or all of?) the monster VO for SoZ by himself.

If Double Fine can rub two coins together and make three regarding VO (considering the money they wasted) then I'm sure Obsidian will as well.

Those are actually very very old screenshots from before the first prototype (or perhaps from the first prototype) that were for a German Magazine earlier this year. They're not new.

If I was a celebrity I would give them money to voice act.

Yay, pretty pictures! I assume these are actual areas from PE, but maybe some are from IE games? It seems that they have done a lot in recent months, so my hopes for gameplay video in an upcoming 'big update' are high.

Wasteland 2 has voice acting for all the radio broadcasts. I think they found a way to do it very cheaply.

I'm sure Obsidian could get some professional voice actors for cheap. Mikey Dowling is friends with several of them. I know at least Liam O'Brian and Sam Riegel were at his wedding.

They all suck, in the last librarian conference i attended to there was a dancer that showed nipples by mistake, she kept dancing, coolest thing is that i was the only guy there to apretiate it.
I also witnessed a master pianist fucking up every single time he tried to play a song, it was fucking epic.

Stuff looks great. First pic up there is very Nashkel mines, not that its a bad thing and the rest look scrumptious.
It looks as if someone fuzed Icewind dales with Baldurs gate 2 and sprinkled TOEE all over.

His face is getting fatter. :rpgcodex:

Also I bought a SA account with archives and search so I could access over a decade's worth of Josh (all I have to do is never post with it so I don't get banned and lose those privileges) but here's something he said yesterday

Some VA isn't very costly or difficult to make. It's full VA that is the problem. The need to record every little line of your dialog turns it into massive undertaking even just from logistical point of view. It forces you to lock dialog long before the game is finished, and if you happened to find some inconsistency in it later on you're better off cutting that part entirely, because scheduling new recording session and gathering all the actors all over again is just too much.

Full VA also tends to be shitty uninspired blabbering for the most part. Good acting requires that actor understands the role and the scene and this requires direction. With tens of thousands of spoken lines you can't have much of it. Overall, full VA doesn't worth it even if your actors cost nothing.

Full VA isn't all that expensive when you're dealing with AAA budgets. Larian's Dragon Knight Saga had full voice acting for everyone except the player character and the cost breakdown was
I'm guessing it's lumped in with the freelancers.

Obsidian's DS3 had full VA for everyone, including the four player characters, and had a total cost below 10 million, though it only had about 12,000 lines of dialogue.

Regardless it's money better spent elsewhere when it comes to single-A budgets.
