I would really, really like to think that we're better than the Daily Mail, because that shit is more cancerous and embarrassing to society than Arcania is to RPGs

Dumb shitstirring is dumb whoever does it wherever

I will never give up the fight. It only takes one or two, "but I heard somewhere..." comments on the net, and I'll push for a source - or provide it.

Arguably, I never would have come to the Codex a while ago if I had not seen the incorrect specs on the NWN2 companions, because I knew someone would cite the post as a fact if I didn't swoop in - and I did it to correct it, not because I thought having written the NWN2 companions would somehow make me look good (I wasn't proud of my work on them, and I didn't think I did a very good job).

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Again, old story, but thought I was going to get fired over it (we didn't know how the reception would be).

^that's bullshit. If you own your own house and are single 200$ is enough to last a week.

An approach most people here would be in favour of for sure

But aren't publishers put-off by CRPGs using a GURPS approach, even more so than DnD+RtwP?

How would you reinvent Fallout 1&2's delivery to better sustain a future project?

I have always thought Fergus was a doddering idiot.... but now it seems his froggy face is equal to his bootlicking
Most of us suspected the separation from Obsidian was less than amicable but reading all that shit that went down, man even worse than I though
I too have worked in places where the asskissing to the higher ups created a culture similar to what Mr Avellone described and I really applaud his bravery of finally coming out with these statments, takes a lot of guts but in the end the price of personal freedom is worth it
I too would like to congratulate you Mr Avellone; so many great games like Torment and KOTOR 2 make you one of my favorite writers and I truly thank you
Hell, with all your many freelance projects you should be just fine... hopefully all the asskissing from fanbois won’t go to your head

Was there ever at least something he did to thank the employees for this? Basically, he gave them no other chance than to help him getting a better refinance deal. Btw. were the expenses never paid back or just withheld for some time?

They weren't paid back for a year - at least. (The employees were unaware for the reason for the delay.)

EDIT: So the worst part? The employees never know - while airing it may seem bad form, is concealing these decisions any better? Does refinancing a house mean the company and its employees are treated better? It requires an ability to think outside yourself and put yourself in another's place - but is that so hard when you've hired the person in question?

And for anyone seeing it/hearing a decision like this - my opinion, as an owner, you don't put your needs first. You are supposed to be protecting and paying back your employees - they make the games, they are the ones you rely on. I can't even explain choices like this, they're so self-serving, you wonder why we work on team projects at all.

Well they should demand access to his swimming pool every weekend for at least a year since they helped refinancing it.

man, I tried keeping up with the main thread this last week or so..... such good drama. Unfortunately, doing so meant I had to call in sick to work in order to have the free time necessary to not fall impossibly behind the leading edge of this epic drama tsunami. I called out sick 4 days this last week and have only eaten lucky charms and left over Halloween candy for about 7-8 days because I did not want to waste time going to the grocery store. As it turns out, laying in bed for 8 straight days eating mainly sugar is bad for your digestion. I have now become severely constipated as I believe its been 7-8 days since I had a proper sit down.....I have this dreaded fear of being one of those people my wife has described to me who end up in the ER with a nurse using forceps, gloves, and a high pressured water hose to work out fossilized feces, clump by clump.

In addition to this, I am now in not my bosses favorite employee...I hope I can salvage my job. He has become suspicious and is demanding a written doctor note that I am healthy enough to come back to work. Obviously he could give a fuck about my health--he is just hoping to catch me in a lie. Lucky for me though because the impacted bowel I mentioned above could actually end up being what saves my stupid ass (so to speak). Not going outside for about 8 days also seems to be unhealthy for my skin. I am sort of looking steve bannon like. All that being said, the humiliation of going public at work with my impacted bowel, the literal pain in my ass and the itchy flaky red skin blotches have all been worth this historic Drama......the drama God sometimes demands sacrifice and I am doing just doing my part.

    Would read again.

One interesting thing from the last thread: Chris Avellone used the phrase "5 year plan" and Prime Junta didn't even bat an eyelash. Sometimes I wonder if he's really communist at all.

But the old thread is still for serious discussion, and the new thread is for Feargus Urquhart erotic fanfiction. Right?

Pretty sure Infinitron already knows about that.

Back in 2015, right around the same time Chris Avellone left, Feargus gave a talk at IGDA Montreal where he was quite frank about the aggressive culture at Interplay and how it affected him: http://www.rpgcodex.net/article.php?id=9929

Unfortunately it seems that the video has been taken down, but I jotted down some summaries in the Obsidian thread while watching it: http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/inde...-discussion-thread.84849/page-85#post-3962999

One of the reasons I don't think Feargus is a sociopath is that he seems regretful about these things.
