Doesn't seem to work. I tried inviting you to the chat several times, but I never got a confirmation that an invite was sent. When are you online next ? I'll try friend + chat you then.

I'd figure it'll be pretty fun doing team content while LARP fagging. It's pretty much the icing on Cryptic MMO cakes, since they're really good at the whole LARP-faggotry adventuring with bros angle.

Also guys, if you wanna check if any of your bros are online, you'll have to use the Champions Online website. STO's website doesn't have a friend online status window. Also, your account logs in there as well, because it's a Cryptic account.
None of that LARP faggotry for me. Delbert is now captain of the USS Weedlord, NCC-91420

Well is it me or do the missions are a bit ... crazy.

I am trying to play the tutorial missions but that damn admiral just starts throwing regular missions at me, kinda pisses me off ...

The tutorial is s bit staggered. You get more tutorial missions as you level up and get access to new gameplay systems.

Well, I'll probably be playing for the next couple hours.

Well, I sent you a friend request as well as a chat request. You're on the list as 'invited'. All you need to do is accept it.

EDIT : Anyone have tips on spending Skill Points ? Playing a science. I've put points into starship weapons, ground combat medic and I think starship shields or something like that. Only level 8 so far.

Halp me veteran bros, I'm in a conundrum:

I'm thinking about redoing Valkar, and I was wondering about a few things... Is a Science captain with a cruiser a good tank? I've learned that the space stat skills don't change between professions, but that abilities do, and I was wondering if it all works together? On ground, Science can heal-tank, right?

Similarly, I was pondering what would be a good combination of traits for a Vulcan.

So bros, I'm thinking about this base build for Valkar's remake:

Science career
Physical Strength
Logical
Accurate
Warp Theorist
Medic Kit

Will use Cruisers. If I've surmised correctly, he should be an good heal-tank on Ground and a good shield tank in Space.

Is I correct?

MY GOD. I just learned you can paint your ship. USS WEEDLORD IS NOW RED TO GO FASTA

And I am playing it slightly differently with my cruiser now. I've decided fuck torpedoes. Go broadside to your enemy, divert full power to phasers, fire all 4 phasers over and over again while hitting attack pattern alpha. With all my points dumped in to ship weapons and now ship energy weapons it does crazy damage. Even in fleet actions against bosses I end up pulling aggro at like level 14.

When you get access to mines, they're OP as fuck on a lot of missions. Torpedoes are the shit though, don't ignore them.

Played it for a little while because I'm a Trek geek, but it's still a pretty shitty and boring MMO.

Once I hit level 10 I decided to piece together an Enterprise, but not Picard's, or Kirk's or even Archer's.

It's Enterprise-C time baby, or as close as I can get without spending money. The U.S.S. Helre is a go!

Seriously thought about getting an Escort, because they're nimble and they pack a hell of a lot of frontward firepower...but I'm an Engineering Officer and dangit, the Cruiser is the ship class focused on that type of character. I'm not sure if it's the awesome Impulse Engine I found awhile back or not, but it doesn't seem like I've actually lost much maneuvering capability even though I'm in a larger ship. Needless to say I love the added toughness, extra weapons slot and room for an additional Engineering Officer. The Helre's already flown through a couple mishaps with ease that I know would have blown the Calnus to pieces.

escorts are good... i'm an engineer as well

SBcoP.jpg

this is the U.S.S. Pitcairn... current position: deep in Romulan territory... current status: on a rampage through Hirogen and Romulan lines... current captain: Commander Fens

...btw.: don't do the Romulan temple ground pve engagement thing... it's horrible and the guy who made that map should be forced to play it 24/7 until he begs to get shot (shouldn't take long)

Well I think you can see the 3 ship types as the "Holy Triad", the Cruiser is the tank, the Escort the DPS and the Science Ship the healer/buffer/debuffer.

By going with a Cruiser you are taking a extra engineering console so it matters more your officers that your class at this early stage and I dont think it matter much your ship class ... at least depends on how good you are playing, a cruiser is more of a balanced "can take a beating" type of ship lacking the ability to kill things as Escorts do or to screw other ships like the Science Ships.

As for speed and maneuverability ... Cruiser seems fine, can keep up with some lighter ships and run rings around larger ones ... its only a problem if you go against something that can eat you alive (like a Borg Tactical Cube) that you should avoid or facing a lot of small ships and not prioritize targets (always attack fighters first, they go down fast but can damage you so going after a corvette with them around is a bad idea).

Class seems to matter first and foremost on Ground, in Space its how you've specced your ship, skill tree and officers, with class bringing in special abilities in addition to that.

Hm, might go for an Escort come level 20 just to play around with it then. If I don't like it I can always fall back on the Helre. I love my little 'made-in-Hong Kong' Enterprise C.

Level 10, science vessel. Maybe I made a mistake going science in class and ship. All I got was one more science spot and an extra aft weapon. Its not an iconic looking ship either. :( Well, hopefully I might find a niche if we ever get a codex fleet up and running, but that seems doubtful.

you can customize your ship in the orbital dock to make it look less iffy... first restyle comes for free...

just found out, that you can walk around on your ship and visit the bridge (including captain's ready room with a fish tank), engineering and crew deck... probably left-overs from when they were planning to make it more of a team-on-a-ship game instead of everyone-gets-to-be-a-captain... click the downward pointing arrow to the right of the duty officers button at the top right of the screen and choose visit bridge... to visit the other stations, go to the turbo lift on your bridge (works with shuttles as well... just less stuff to see obviously)

dcNv4.jpg

and this is my new ship, the U.S.S. Jabberwocky... current position: heading back to Romulan space... current status: on a mission to investigate an evil Reman plot... current captain: Captain Fens

that's the stage where you can get yourself a Defiant lookalike... and the turn rate is good enough to run circles around most enemies (still not good enough to make 90° or 45° weapons an alternative to the big angle ones, though)

Looks like a grumpy robot laying belly first on the ground.

Anyway, customization really can work wonders for making limited choices a bit better. In the beginning I swapped around pieces from the Miranda class and the other two Light Cruisers and came up with something I could live with.
