Looks like the OnLive service isn't so impressive when it's outside of a controlled environment.

    SHOCKING!!!!

It took me about 2 seconds of reading about OnLive to form this expectation. You need a shitload of bandwidth to show 60 hi-res images per second and even then there's the network latency.

Oh noes! How can it be? And I trusted them when they said I could play Crysis from my Wii at the middle of the Atlantic Ocean!

I blame you Onlive! I blame you!

Think UT3 sounds bad? Imagine doing 1 frame links in fighting games, or royal blocking in DMC.

    Insert clever insult here
Who was the retard who earlier was here shouting how this will "revolutionize" gaming and what else? And how simple things like economical viability or the laws of physics were just speedbumps conjured by luddite nay-sayers?

Xi, he doesn't want to spend $2000 on PC every year.
In fact Arse Technica doesn't know shit, Steve Perlman is the truth.

Predictably, the videogames' demand for "hurr, durr bettur hardwur" will plateau long before bandwidth of your usual communication channel will even begin to suffice for this kind of extravaganza, and even if it does, the transmission delay is still limited by c.
Apart from simple and easily conquerable hurdle which is speed of light, it's another step on the slippery slope of giving up the control to the publishers, thwarting indie development (high powered server farms, durr hurr), it will preclude you from owning a game to much greater degree than even the most aggressive Digital Rape Management schemes do, in particular it won't allow you to just pop your old disk in drive several years from purchase, so yeah, looking forward to this kind of dumbfuckery is retarded through and through.

The only kind of "gamers" I can see this working out for are people like Sims players. All 10 million of them. Which means it could be a ridiculous success on the scale of WoW if they got everyone on a monthly payment.

All signs point toward it failing though.

Before forming opinions, you should really try understanding what someone has written, or at least read it in its entirety. Directly from the article:

    1. Do you really trust the writings of someone who is doing something illegal?
    2. He is outside their coverage.

If you've read the technical details you will understand how important it is to be within the coverage area.

Do I personally care for the service? No, but at least READ shit before making ignorant comments. That goes for every single person in this thread.

Where do you see anything illegal in that?

Everyone is outside of their coverage which is 10 meters.
Image also doesn't lose its quality over distance as the nature of a data carrier is digital - and the image quality was also his complaint.

If you studied physics at school instead of skipping it you would've also known that there is no way currently to travel faster than a speed of light.
