Maybe it's a cunning plot: they don't want to release it as Epic exclusive and will be pushing release dates back until the exclusivity period runs out.

I'd bet the exclusivity period lasts from the release date; it would be rather stupid from Epic to pay them M$ and letting them to just ignore the contract.

Maybe they felt there were only a couple microissues left, but try as they might, they couldn't fix them all during the final crunch, and the game still crashed on startup for 90% of devices.

Now delayed to December.

It is not delayed. Friend Computer was always aiming to release it in December. There were no other release dates. Claiming otherwise is a rumor, rumors are treason.

But oh boy, announcements like that a day before.. The first time - ok, but the second - don't they learn from previous mistakes? If you need 3 extra weeks it is pretty apparent a bit earlier than one day before deadline..

Perhaps it's a kind of "Oh Shit" moment, where a recently-integrated component, like the option menu, creates a severe crash that's hard to fix (or some other BS that's found at the end of the dev and is a showstopper). They tried until the last minute to get an acceptable fix, but once they decided to push back the release, they push it back by 3 weeks since it's Epic which is picking up the bill and, in that case, pushing it back by three weeks is the same as pushing it back by 3 days.

Such caring about tiny delays. A wise man waits a year before buying a game anyways, letting others pay more to beta test. Now with 1 year Epic exclusives a wise man is made even wiser.

Why aren't you wise?

This is totally gonna be shit, right? And since it's released on Epic, we're not finding out soon.

Trust the Codex to shower it in shit!

This is supposed to release today, but it has absolutely no advertising, has absolutely zero reviews or fanfare from any media sources as far as I can tell, it isn't even at the top of the Epic store page which is the only place you can buy it... these are not the greatest signs.

Don't worry, Timmy is giving them money so we won't have to.

Seems Bigben have their Epic bux and they don't care anymore. I feel bad for the developers because the game looks nice.

Yeah this is going to tank super hard. I'll be gobsmacked if it sells more than 1000 copies, but also, ya know, fuck them; they chose the "Epic exclusive" route and now they get to close their studio.

Black Shamrock is a part of much bigger company Virtuos, a production service (porting and outsourcing) powerhouse. I guess the worst thing that can happen to them is becoming an outsourcing only studio.

Well, Black Shamrock already have that RuneQuest project lined up for after this: https://rpgcodex.net/forums/index.php?threads/runequest-crpg-in-development.126592/

Perhaps instead I should have said "and now we'll never get another shot at a decent Paranoia game because of how poorly this one is going to sell due to gross mismanagement".
