I wonder if the "weird" portraits are because the changed models or maybe aren't using models anymore?

Gamescom is in a few weeks. They might be trying to build some hype.

Hopefully, this big event will turn out better than the big event that kickstarted PoE1's plot :D

This sounds great. It really is silly when, in a typical RPG, the entire village - many of them unarmed peasants - attacks you for stealing an apple.

I just hope they don't go overboard with this, and make every conversation start off with the other person mentioning in awe how you are a Godlike.

I think Josh mentioned somewhere (maybe in one of the streams?) that they were trying to avoid specifically that, every person going "omg youre a godlike!" while having some more reactivity than in PoE. Hopefully they'll hit the mark.

Kinda cool that they seem to be using Neketaka as a sort of marketing thing. Hopefully their confidence in it means that it will be good.

Sure, dude. I mean, RPGs are positively riddled with coastal cities where each district has its own distinct style, and several factions you can align with/betray/double cross/wipe out are all fighting and plotting to gain control of it, in a plot heavily inspired by the East India Company.

Yup. Generic as generic can be.

If this is one of six districts, it looks kind of small, compared to BGII and BG districts, again.

Edit: or maybe this screenshot was captured while playing at a pretty high resolution, or the zoom level affects the preview rectangle while in map mode?

Like TheSentinel said, hope it gets saved by greater content variety.

But from what we've seen - it'll easily blow DB out of the water in this regard. Granted, that's not a very at all hard thing to do, but still :D

The districts don't need to be massive, necessarily. Just interesting and filled with content.

We already know they are not going to be filled with content. We are being warned every time.

    Do you mean this:

The BG series isn't exactly known for quality content (but, then again, neither is PoE1, barring a few (non-TWM) quests), but by sheer content quantity - especially BG2.

Now, I don't think it's probable we will ever see this type of RPG with BG2's amount of content ever again.

But what they are trying to pull off here is to combine F:NV's faction - and companion - structure with the IE games' adventuring, with a greater focus on skills and scripted interactions. If they do manage to do this, and have quests that (at least on the critical path) change according to your allegiances and actions, not having every inch of Neketaka crawling with (mostly) irrelevant quests can be forgiven, I think.

I wouldn't say BG was too sparse quest wise, it's that the maps were so big and so numerous that it felt like the quests weren't enough to fill them. They were also pretty basic. BG1 is greater than the sum of its parts with some amazing moments like Durlag's Tower, made unquantifiably better by mods (*cough* SCS *cough*), while PoE feels a bit disjointed in everything it does, so much in fact that after finishing TWM1 I haven't booted the game since and it just makes me want to replay BG1 again. I have a feeling PoE2 will be PoE1, but bigger, not necessarily better. Which isn't that good of a thing, PoE is only enjoyable with a loooot of compromises and adjustments of expectations. Even though I despise recycling the past, PoE would've been better had it been more like BG1 and that's a painful thing to admit. Let's hope PoE2 doesn't end up in the same position where it would've been better had it been more like BG2.
