Completed Play-by-Post: In Search of the Sorcerer

"After the day we just had? Yes, yes it was. ...Is that Borric bloke dead yet or what?"

Marcán checks on Borric's condition.

 

"He's breathing. Borric, you ok?"

 

Borric looks pretty dazed and is still gasping to catch his breath. Once he finally gets a grip on himself he also looks to be just as affected as Ker is by the strange properties of the mead - he keeps staring at his hands as if they were the most fascinating thing he's ever seen and seems to barely register Rhenmyr's enquiry.

Ker has also collapsed back to the floor, clearly grievously wounded from the crushing force of the vine that grasped him by the throat.

The room suddenly seems very still and quiet. the only sounds breaking the silence are Ker's wheezing, Borric's heavy breathing and occasionally gasp of awe and your guttering torches.

 

Marcán pats Borric on the back. "He's fine. Cormac, you want to take a look at our druid now? He doesn't look so good. I'm going to sit in a corner, that one- " he points to an adjacent wall. "and take a little breather."

"Compared to these arrangements, I'm starting to miss my little hovel."

 

"It appears Ker is going to need healing anyway." Cormac casts Cure Light Wounds on Ker.

Cure Light Wounds [1d6+1] = 2+1 = 3

 

"Perhaps we could all do with some rest. Should we fall back to somewhere defensible, the guest quarters perhaps, or go on hoping to find somewhere more secure?" Rhenmyr asks eyeing the mess in the kitchen warily.

 

The warriors among you do a quick survey of the floor and you all feel that the guest chambers would be easy enough to defend if you wanted to rest there. The door bars from the inside and there are several dry, clean beds. The only uncomfortable thing would be dealing with the dead Arawnite priest.

 

"I can deal with the priest's body, and then we can use the guest chamber. I need to rest anyway."

 

"Alright. Let's secure the room and get some rest."

 

Cormac says a prayer to Arawn and then removes the priest's body, dragging it to the kitchen area.

 

To secure your room you are able to drag a dresser in front of the door and you slide an iron bar into door's braces. Satisfied you all settle in for a well-earned rest. The wan light from the room's glazed window fades and gives way to evening and then night.

Fortunately the evening passes without event and feeling somewhat refreshed (restore 1 HP + CON bonus to your character and post your new total below) you wake in the dark and fumble around for your things and light a torch.

(The effects of the mead are no longer clouding Ker and Borric's mind).

IIRC The only room not thoroughly explored was the kitchen, but it was given a cursory inspection.

That's what I remember too. Didn't want to risk more rot grubs with a thorough search with our party depleted.

 

Sleeping in the eerily quiet tower was slightly unnerving, but now you are all awake and relatively refreshed. Cormac, and Ker recite the sacred benedictions of the Keltic gods and Sokrates spends an hour in deep meditation, while Borric cuts his fingernails with a sharp scrimshaw handled knife, in the meantime Marcán and Rhenmyr ready their kit, stretch their legs and arms and face the barred door.

I can neither confirm nor deny that Marcán wears a kilt.

"Fucking 'ell that was a good nap! Now that we're all pretty much not dead let's say we head upstairs one more time, eh?"

 

"Sounds good. Unless we want to give that mess of a kitchen a better look."

 

"By Cernunnos, my head still hurts like carts of oxen drove over it! Maybe some more of that mead could.... No, alright, no. Let's head on upstairs!"
Ker does take a bottle of the mead with him before leaving. It couldn't hurt.

 

"It might be a good idea if we all took a bottle of mead with us. Better to be prepared if we run into more vine horrors."
Rhenmyr will fill a bottle of mead as well. Assuming we don't get jumped as soon as we open the door.

 

You each take turns filling a flask full of the mead and stowing it in your belt pouches or packs. Once this action is complete, Sokrates nods wordlessly and Borric utters a simple, "Da, enough sleep and enough waiting. Onward to the top." Thereafter they both take up positions at the bottom of the stairs, in the study and peer up into the darkness waiting for somebody else to give the go ahead.

 

"I'll continue to scout. Follow at my signal."
Rhenmyr cautiously climbs the stairs to the next floor. Testing them as he goes.
