Yeah, so about what was expected. Let me revive this old post:

PCs so expensive guys. And XBone looks about 1/2 to 2/3rds as powerful.

These consoles better be launching at a $300 price point, if not lower. Hell, XBone should be at $200-250 considering it comes with built in surveillance and advertising.

 

I think that chart could be a asspull. First they are both different architecture than either of two cards, second, I have never seen tests show 7850 to be two times faster than 7770.

Just equivalent. However, it's likely that the disparity is even bigger between the two. The PS4 has more compute units than a regular 7850, and is probably equivalent to the 8850. Both will benefit from hUMA, and both will likely perform better than the above do to optimizations of the platform.

Some devs are suggesting that some XBone titles will upscale from 1600x900 -> 1920x1080

Yeah some of those results are really questionable. Since technically, although the 7850 is a generation newer as indicated by the second digit, the 7770 was faster in its generation as indicated by the third digit. So 2x the power in some cases, bullshit.

EDIT: ok nevermind, just checked - not a generation apart and 7850 has in some cases double the power, but in other cases it's not a simple 2x comparison.

Bear in mind that 2x the frames per second (or whatever) doesn't necessarily translate to X component being twice as powerful Y component. There's a certain threshold of performance that must be met in order to run a game at all, or at medium settings, and so on. I'm sure there's a proper mathematical term to describe this, but it escapes me at the moment. Something to do with proportionality, no doubt.

Components that will run a given game at 60 FPS on Very High settings might only be 30% more powerful than components than run that same game at 30 FPS on Very High settings.

Not that that means those benchmarks accurately reflect reality, mind you.

What kind of equivalent is that, just pick 2 amd cards based on TFLOP values? At least pick similar cards if you want to get an idea. How about 7850 vs 7870: 1.76 TFLOPS vs 2.56 TFLOPS (45% difference, OMG!), yet http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/549?vs=548 it's not as silly as 7770 vs 7850.

And I'll be quite surprised if PS4 GPU beats a 7850, or even comes close. It's gonna be fun again to have a pc 10x more powerful and be told it can't quite handle the amazing graphics of the consoles by the shill dev of the month.

Ok so I combed through this site and found that while they still do sell videogames I can't find anything about preordering consoles. So I assume that article is payed for by MS or the 12 stores still open in the US have gotten 5 preorders a piece which means record breaking because anything past 0 breaks the record.
