1997: Entertainment Weekly rates Castlevania: Symphony of the Night a C-, saying that the visuals were dated and flat, when compared to Nightmare Creatures which featured 3D environments.

2019: Nightmare Creatues looks dated and flat, especially when compared with modern videogames that feature 3D environments.

2019: Defying all the basic laws that govern graphical fidelity, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, without any remasters or remakes has achieved a graphical aesthetic rarely seen even amongst the newest games released.

So early 3D games age poorly. You are a genius my friend.

It's more along the lines of journalists being retards who think everything new is "good". In hindsight, their comments are ridiculously stupid.

You make it sounds like it's not the fate of any 3D game as Computer Graphics gets better.
I guess certain stylized visuals will always have their place, even at times when computer graphics will be indistinguishable from reality.
