Why the fuck is this not on the codex?!?!

The game just came out and i decided to try it in hopes of wasting some. Turned out to pretty good base building rpg with side scrolling combat. The game is about dwarfs killing garbage like goblins. Neanderthal this game is made for you mate, the easiest difficulty is even called elf :).

The fuck it is sold for 1 fucking dollar?!?!?!

Played through this a while ago, around last Christmas or so when I got it in the sale. Decent game yes, explored every single location and unlocked every single achievement in 18 hours of playtime.

It's somewhat of a metroidvania with basebuilding, you explore locations and gather resources and build up your base. Kill orcs, find useful stuff in dungeons, etc. Fun game that's definitely worth its low price. Sidescrolling dungeon crawler with resource management and base building.

    this is quite cool

question: does double damage from axe mastery work with throw-3x-axes stance?

Someone who's played it, how does it compare to say, Terraria? (That's sure what it looks like, with a few more RPG UI elements.)

Will never played a game with "graphics" like that.

Amiga in 1986 was doing better.

didnt play it, quick look at vids say that there is little bullet hell, not really base building, no mining for resources(you get slaves for that)

It doesn't play like Terraria at all. There is some resource gathering, which you can do yourself at first (from trees/ore nodes/loot), but you can get other dwarves to do it for you as you free them from captivity (from map locations you have visited and liberated), and the base building aspect isn't customized like in Terraria, but more like Kingdom's (where you pay the required amount of resources and the building pops up).

There is no base defense and the game is largely a side-scrolling action adventure platformer with some puzzles, and RPG elements. It's actually quite decent and worth a buy.

umm, that's a shitty arcade port that doesn't take advantage of Amiga's custom chipset. I'd post screencaps of Defender of the Crown (1986), and numberous others, but you're a waste of time.

finished it. According to stats 12h, 70% achievements. I didnt bother with being completionist

Maybe I will retry at some point on highest diff, shall see.

My throwing axe dealt 250k dmg to some enemies at the end of the game(armor varies). Named enemies needed 2 throws. Siege enemies multiple throws to die.
Situations that cant be solved with sneak archer throwing axeman playstyle are rare.
Its easy to be immune to elements. Few armor skills and you are quite a juggernaut.

Ive upgraded all the buildings, some are shit. Followers are trash so dont bother with training facility. Marketplace is trash. Smithy I dont get, with fully upgraded was finding better items. Rune forge... it is nice but you get it right before end boss so I dont get the point?
Tavern gives money and followers but its main feature are bounties at higher levels. Not to be bothered with on regular diff, could be interesting on highest one.

I still dont know which skills on tree work together and which are stance limited.

You can put attribute points into whatever, items will dwarf any impact.

Siege is very end game. Gives tons of loot and resources you dont need at that point.

Sneaking around can be annoying even with movement speed stance. Next id probably play some agile dashing melee

    ive started on highest diff.

beginning is brutal, I guess that diff is locked so that you can use your knowledge to get some secret gear early on. With it you can clean nearby locations. I have full secret set on me from no-low combat nearby locations. With black axe that bypasses armor and steals hp its still not a cakewalk.

Turns up bounties from tavern give no xp. As such I deem this building useless.

My throwing is useless so far, yet i continue to invest in it hoping for mid-late game viability.
no1 skill to pick is bleed on melee. no2 are resistances. Besides that its whatever you want. I saw people swearing by shield dash but honestly it appear to be useless on highest diff as stun provided is minimal... It could require heavy ivestment to make it work though - both more skills and enchantments.

k&m works fine for me. Thinking about it yeah, controller would work better in few situations but tahts about it. Im not sure why mouse is introduced at all honestly, full keyboard would be fine

ive became god of destruction even on hardest diff.

Leveling is very limited. I have now lvl 15 and I suppose I might reach 16 at some point, doubt it will go any further.
In practice you should plan for having just 13 skill points to distribute, its very few.
To become god of throwing you need 11 points. I wasnt able to get proper throwing as I distributed too many points into melee to help with early game. I guess I should have grabbed just bleed and cheesed proper weapon in order to have amazing throwing. As it stands, I was able to kill some mages and archers with it from stealth, thats about it. Armored enemies were no go.

Went completionist when it comes to book & unique treasure gathering. There are some funny gems and interesting encounters.

am i the only one playing it even though it was free?

anyway dropping some throwing info i found scattered over internet or play tested myself. Maybe someone will find it useful one day:

    - base throwing dmg is calculated from your level alone.
    - crit chance&dmg from your weapon applies. As such you want short sword. Dexterity improves crits to extend that no flat bonus to those comes close. Dexterity is your friend.
    - multi axe throw skill dont 'shootgun' - cant hit same enemy more than once. Dont take it. WHile spread is nice to sneak hit enemies from afar, lower throw rate is a big deal
    - Take axe mastery line, you will crit always and be able to spam throw in melee in some situations
    - throw axe push is big. Pushed enemy can be hit with same axe 2-3 times! Tanky enemies tend to be immune to push. Also improves your survival as its harder to reach you in melee.
    - bleed doesnt just double your dmg output... It appears that dmg calculations are done before armor reductions are applied. You should rush for it especially early game on highest diff.

random bit: get dashing enchantment on weapon. It makes you auto dash while attacking. It opens funny playstyle for melee but also allows dashing while sneaking.

Looks like it. I picked it up (there is/was a free DLC too), but haven't gone round to trying it out. Saw some people saying it was basically a dwarf-themed Kingdom which didn't help motivation as despite being a lover of the bearded diminutive mining devices I also grew super bored of Kingdom super quick (despite loving the art style). Your review means I'll definitely give it a go at some point, cheers.

I'm playing it from time to time, just level 9 atm.
Throwing and bleeding seem to be the safest way to win most of the battles.
Thanks for sharing your findings! But I believe that 8 points in throwing (not 11 as you mentioned earlier) would be enough to perfect it.
Something like this, without the crossed out skills:
