Ack! I just got the game from a friend, and ev en though I have a 100% chance to pick locks and disarm traps I can't succeed EVER on scoping out the traps, let alon pick the locks. i opted for ref;ex, and when I try using the scope to find out what kind of trap it is, I always get the first hole, (left of the lock) and I always fail on the second hole (right of the lock). Even 100 times in a row I fail, and I can't progress in the game because of this. Anyone have a similar proble, and how do i fix it?

    Argh!

OK, I know how to fix this one. First, you need to unistall Return to Krondor. Remove the CD from your computer, and place the game far, far away. Next. Use a search engine to find "Betrayal at Krondor". It has been released for public use, so you can download the game without ethical qualms. Now, play that instead.
    Problem solved.

    DOSbox is so great....
I was playing One Must Fall 2097 (the original, not the retarded modern sequel). Best robot fighting game ever. Best techno music theme song ever. The only techno that doesnt suck is 8 bit techno.
I didn't know Betrayal at Krondor was free! I haven't played it in a long time.

I got Betrayal as a free gift with something else, years ago. Thoroughly enjoyed it, didn't realise there was a sequel, is Return really that awful?

And there was "Betrayal in Antara" between those two - quite boring.

Of course not. Where did you get that idea? It's an enjoyable adventure with a good storyline and an interesting setting.

Yes, it is a good game, but keep in mind tht if you can't open the chests or doors you will not be able to progress any furhter in the plot. I am at the point right now where I have to get into someone's drawer to get some papers that implicate him and will lead me to the next clue, but I can't open anything.

I'd say more repetitive than boring, but yes you're right :) Still better than RtK though imho

Betrayal in Antara is not based on Feist's books, though - they just made a game in their own setting with the same engine when they lost the license.

    Re: Chests

If you're talking about the Wreckers guild, it's a puzzle lock:

"You click the picure and the puzzle part will open. Then click on the pieces until one jumps up to the picture area. As long as you keep clicking on pieces that add to the puzzle, including pieces that start dropping off the puzzle when you take too much time, the puzzle will continue to be active. If the puzzle dissolves from view and all the puzzle pieces fall off the picture, you need to start over. Once you place all the pieces the picture will stop fading and the drawer will open."

http://www.thecomputershow.com/computer ... walk.htm#4 (the site also has a guide to lock picking)

Other than that and a puzzle door in the final areas of the game, I don't remember any other locks that prevent you from advancing the plot. If you can't pick a lock open, there's sometimes a key with which to open it.

No, my problem is that I can't open ANY lock that is not puzzle. Puzzle locks I can open, but for some reason regularm trap locks I always fail on, even though my skill is 100 in both disarming and lockpicking.

BaK totally rocks. Awesome RPG. BiA was meh. RtK was fairly decent. Been ages since I've played it though. I lost my copy of the BaK book awhile back and found another copy at Barnes & Nobles here a few weeks ago. It was wrapped in plastic and I thought that weird until I opened it and in the back was a copy of the game on CD. Pretty cool.

    Chest ptoblem solved

What the hell? It was so easy. All I did was start the game over again, and when it asked me how I wanted to to pick locks, either reflex or dice rolls, I went dice rolls, and I have only failed once now! Now I need help solving the the door puzzle to the crypt of the Ishapian cleric in the undead temple maze in chapter 9. The walkthrough says that after you fail at solving the door puzzle to the whole place (the one with the lazers) go and look in the alcove that the last skeleton came out of, but what if you solved it like me without screwing up? Am I going to have to restart the entire chapter?
