Won't the hivemind please bless me with a verdict on this release, that I may be spared forking over more of my hard-earned potato to the Gaben?

It gets boring real fast. Sailing here and there trading goods is fun for maybe one hour then it gets repetitive. Options are there but ultimately its about buying cheap and selling expensive.

Naval battles are kinda fun, remind me of classic pirate games, pity you cant play it as a pirate...

Well I'm trying to play it, it got boring pretty quickly but I'll give it another try. There are enough automation aspects that I should be able to get to the next "level" of gameplay and see how fun that is.

I would second the OP, but requesting opinions of those who have actually played Patrician and Port Royale first.

It is similar to Patritian and port royale 3
It is a bit improved in some areas ( UI is much better) but a bit "dumbed down" in anothers ( for instance you can't take over cities)
It is more of the same with some interesting stuff added in ( like political system to become Doge)

How is naval combat and boarding? Do I get to control entire fleet (P3, PR1), only a few specially designated warships (P4, PR3) or a stupid single ship (PR2)? Are combat controls more RTS-ish (PR1) or more arcadey (P4)? Is there any kind of acceptable boarding (P3, PR3) or dumbed down "last ship standing surrenders when about to sink" crap (P4)? This is the sorest point of the series.

Concerning economy, I'd be satisfied so long as they didn't break anything and left all as it used to be. Though, how about competing AI merchants? Do they finally sell their housing and business reasonably, or I still would have to burn entire city to the ground then starve it into extinction to make them sell a dilapidated shack for a sum less than the entire Hansa's gross domestic product?

That's realistic. You never worked with artists, right?

combat is carbon copy of PR3
Economy is better then PR3 they sell stuff much more reasonably but still like 3-4 times higher.
There is even "rival" 3 AI's that have their own business and houses but they are more of an annoyance then anything.

Thanks. PR3 combat is not that bad, could be much worse (i.e. PR2 or P4). I've heard it doesn't run on XP, though? Bastards.

These games are for kids. Otherwise it will be one constant facepalm.
