could beat the game by just abusing roll dodge

One thing probably worth mentioning is this wasn't in the original version of the game and was added on in a patch a few weeks after release.

I tackled Antigua first. Enemies do take a fair bit to kill during the first ~10 hours, but once your gold, gear and skill gains kick in it just drops off instantly.

Kind of glad I didn't do that one early as the hell hounds can be fast and aggressive and I bet that would have been annoying in the first few hours. Having been to all the islands now I think I'd suggest the natives one for new players, Kila I think it's called. They're not really THAT different though.

Been about 2 years since I played Risen 3 but I don't remember it being too hard, way too easy to parry almost all melee attacks and dodge the big windups is what I remember. I don't know if was because stuff was slow, overly telegraphed, or just generous window in which to parry but I never had any trouble in it.

Yeah, but the game was broken as hell without it too.

For sure, particularly firearms.
But I think it kind of shows how poorly conceived things were initially that they bolted on dodge systems without much thought. Was probably a Witcher 2 thing. People were kind of used to rolling and complained, Witcher 2 came out the year before and took rolling to new extremes lol.
