Well, yeah, that's what I meant. It will be great to get top X games from various genres.

This was mentioned a ton of times before the poll started and yet it wasn't structured that way. Also if it were known from the start, the voting would probably be quite different. So I wouldn't expect it.

 

I did an informal check of the games I spotted as top contenders - the winner is clear with a ~50-point lead. I'm very pleased, if I'm right the Top 6 at least are all titles. luj1 is surprisingly accurate with his predictions, but catfood is gonna be pissed.

Starcraft came up with 10 points less in my count though, which seems to make a difference regarding the top 5, so no idea how accurate my predictions are, and precisely the reason I'm not going into much specifics.

One interesting note I recommend is checking on how well certain series scored in the poll - as an example I compared Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri (166 points) to the entire Civilization franchise (215 points total, but this excluded Colonization). that's six games plus a bunch of expansions against one game with one expansion, and look how SMAC performed.

tbh its still a little aggravating how almost every single discussion regarding the thief trilogy in [current year] ends up turning into a dick measuring contest between dark project supremacists and metal age fanboys (and theres always going to be that one dude who thinks deadly shadows is the best for some reason) but whatever. tdp and tma are both insidiously great games and they deserve to be at the top of every single games ranking thing until the sun inflates and goes boom

I explained it multiple times that it's better to vote for all genres and then categorize the games than doing the opposite. This is because:

- Not everyone play all genres
- Some games are hard to categorize
- We can do a global ranking and then categorize the games, but we couldn't do the opposite and make a global ranking from several genres.

 

I certainly didn't see you mention it, sorry. Fair enough. Should be interesting then to see how it divvies out.
