ORIGINAL STORY: Nexon, the South Korean publisher behind MMO behemoth Maple Story, has reportedly contacted EA about making a takeover bid.

A Bloomberg video report carried the story, which apparently originated in a South Korean newspaper.

"We have no idea how EA might have responded to this reported offer," said the newscaster.

When approached for more information by Eurogamer, an EA spokesperson responded that its "only comment on this is that we don't comment on rumors or speculation about our business".

We've been in touch with Nexon too and will update when we hear back.

Bloomberg's story added that EA's shares jumped "more than six per cent" following the news.

INCLINE or DECLINE... not sure which if true...

Considering EA have said they basically want to MMOfy and F2P every one of their games, this isn't as bad a fit as it sounds... from a business standpoint, anyway.

Well, Nexon business model is pretty much where EA was slowly heading anyway.

Frankly, I don't care for any of EA's products, so I for one welcome their new South Korean overloards.

Edit: Wrong Korea, Fens.

Wouldn't it be amusing if Nexon takes over EA, dumbs down all of EA's games to a point where all their fans hate them, and then shuts down all of EA's studios?

It would be poetic justice.

Nexon is one of the main players in the asian MMO market, and at the very least a pretty big one in the american one. Many popular, if not legendary, MMO names like Maplestory, Mabinogi, Vindictus/Mabinogi Heroes, Dragon Nest, Atlantica Online, Shattered Galaxy, Dragonica, and Dungeon Fighter Online are all in some way conected to them.

Wake me when EA becomes the western publisher for Girls' Generation: Origins.

Should I feel bad that I have no idea what any of these titles are?

Not sure what the point of buying EA would be if all you're interested in is MMOs. I guess they could take all their IP's and MMO them.

Anyway, I don't particularly care either way. Can't recall the last time I actually bought or played an EA game.

EDIT: Is Maplestory one of the MMOs that makes Koreans have divorce settlements over which items go to which person?
