Official XBox Magazine have put two paragraph's up about Sacred 2. Here's the first one:

Comparing Sacred 2 to the Diablo series shouldn’t be taken as a dismissal — it’s actually a statement of fan love. Action-RPG fans haven’t had a new Diablo game since 2000 (sob!), and CDV’s Sacred sequel looks like it might finally scratch that old itch. Six unique characters — some on the light path, some on the dark, with appropriately different goals and missions — set out in a medieval fantasy world some 22-square-miles huge, hacking and slashing their way through 100 core campaign quests… along with about 650 (!) side quests. The critical path should take about 25 hours, but who won’t want to wander and explore some of those extras? Especially considering that each character can buy mounts to help them get around — dark-path Inquisitors, for instance, ride on the back of a giant spider, while the cyborgian Temple Guardians tool around in a giant mechanical wheel. (It looks cool in motion, trust us.)

There's a whole second paragraph where that came from but it's not as interesting as this one.

    So they are cyborgian hamsters?

If so, I totally want this game.

Chances are 99,9% of those will be about killing X monsters and bringing NPC Y item Z they stole from him.

Which is fine in an ARPG. Killing monsters and taking their stuff is what those games are about.

While that's true it does render the number of those quests and any boasts about that fairly irrelevant.

I disagree. It's far more satisfying to slaughter monsters because somebody is going to pay you for this than just because. I feel all warm and tingly inside when I open the journal and find out that it is full of completed quests.

    They are.

But what I am saying is that a little diversity would only make things better.

How about making quests that involve stopping a monster raid on a city, or assassinating enemy leaders, or escorting a bunch of NPCs from point A to point B while fending off monster attacks.

They could even add choices to said quests to make them more interesting, for example in a "monster attack city" quest you can either stand at the gates and slaughter hordes of monsters, or sneak around the army and kill the army commanders making the enemy army lose morale and flee as a result. Furthermore, they could go as far as making consequences for such quests, like a city getting destroyed or several important NPCs killed as a result of your inefficiency.

Also, Diablo 2 had only 1 quest that was about grinding shit from random monsters, the rest were different.

The fact that ARPGs are about killing is no excuse to make the quests generic, IMHO.

Oops, I misunderstood you a bit. You are talking about presentation, those MMO-style grinding quests. The original Sacred had them initially because they were procedurally generated. This was later removed by patches and replaced with hand-crafted quests, which were pretty good. I expect the same from the sequel.

no that is what lazy bastards who can't add more depth to them try make them look like. then again one of them succeeded at making it with quality - Blizzard.
but there are ARPGs like VtmB and TW. I like how in TW there is no "omg moar kewl loot and armuh and weeponz" stuff - instead you can have more focus on other things.
    in VtmB btw too.
