Thats an odd, odd reversal of normal practice.

    green blooded zombie Carmaggedon? UK/Germany
childless fallouts? UK/ (and elsewhere in Europe?)

I realize that theres been a lot of violence related whining, but most of it has been directed toward other genres, so why do this voluntarily?

they claim they did it to get a teen rating.

Most likely, it's to do with the American publisher, Encore

I don't need gore, and don't care whether they put it in or take it out. Equally, I don't need to see semi-naked animated women. There's plenty of scope for suspension of disbelief without those things. In fact, having never shot or knifed someone, I haven't clue if it would be more or less bloody than the typical RPG depiction.

that's all correct but immaterial. Would you like it if when you carved someone up rainbow-colored blood and pink fluffy bunnies came out? I'm not complaining out of bloodthirst, which is obvious when you realize I'm FROM EJROPE. I'm complaining because existing content is being removed from a game because of the stupid OMG TINNK OF TEH CHILDRAEN!!!!1!! mentality

Yep, I'm with Astro on this. It isn't the gore (or lack of it) its the gradual death spiral of censorship that could ultimately lead to games that are only interesting to Autisic five year olds.
Removing content (which is the case here) is just wrong. Its like covering up the 'naughty bits' on classical sculpture.

Like I said in the other thread on this topc, within one week a hacked patch will add in all the blood in the world and probably unnecessarily remove all the female tops in the game. While this doesn't get at the issue of censorship directly, it just shows that people that have the bloodlust will probably get what they want. :) Or just order from gogamer.com if the English Europe version is out ahead of the US, I'm sure they'll carry it first.

which will lead to lower sales of the american version, which will lead some asswipe exec to reach the OBVIAUSE conclusion that Sacred is too complex for the american market, which will lead to Sacred 2 to be a PG Dungeon Siege clone. which will make Baby Jesus UNLEASH RIGHTEOUS FUCKING ARMAGEDDON ON OUR SORRY ASSES.

    So, fuck censors

If I had to guess, I would say this move is an attempt to more easily make it on Wal-Mart shelves than anything else.

Ah, yes, Walmart. The first place to go for software...
I know they carry stuff now, but has anyone actually dared to buy software from them? Always struck me as a bad idea... like buying meat or milk from their 'grocery' section.

I have. I bought Baldur's Gate as an impulse "I'm bored and there's nothing to do this weekend" purchase.

Fuck Wal-Mart, and fuck censors. Just cause adults cannot be bothered with having to supervise their children these days, the rest of us have to suffer? To hell with that. I really have been looking forward to this game, but I think they just lost my sale for the american version. And I don't order online, so I guess I'm never getting this game. :(

Fuck you very much Encore. See my balls? Lick them!

OH MY GOD!!! I SAID THAT ON TEH INTRENET!!!1!! WAHT IF CHILDERN SAW??!!!!1!

Don't worry. They're too busy getting off to porn and thinking about butchering their parents in brutal satanic sacrifices to pay attention to something this tame.

Oh so it's not just me that thinks the 'meat' and 'milk' at Walmart is a bit suspicious.

And the censorship is a bit ridiculous for a game like Sacred when there are games like Manhunter on sale where the ONLY selling point is the blood, gore and violence.

It's not so much the censorship that bugs me as the inconsistent way that it is applied. You can show people being decapitated on the news or jumping out of windows on fire or gunning teenagers down at a high school or crashing a car and being thrown through the windshield, but somehow the idea of hacking a goblin's head off with a sword in a fantasy game is what attracts the censorship. I suppose they are worried that children will go out and buy swords and then murder innocent goblins.

The UK box of the game features titties covered in coils.

In any case, I think it'd be possible to un-censor the game through the INI file or registry (by tweaking it to the British English release) the same way SimCity 4000 handles left handed/right handed driving. Hopefully it'll be as easy as that and not actually have a removal of textures.

A strange reversal. Typically, violence is all good in US as long as there aren't any boobs. In Europe, it's almost always the other way around.

I always hated the collective punishment being inflicted on people just because some kids played doom before shooting up their school. Why, why, why couldn't they play something like extreme paintbrawl for five days in a row prior to the shooting? At least then we'd be able to claim that it's BAD games that make people go on murderous sprees.

Well, to be fair, I'm not that impressed with Sacred's gore in the demo. I can lop off heads, legs, arms, etc. on a really good hit and stuff, but the fire engine red particle stream that comes off them when they fall down isn't that great. The color is way too bright. I'd also like to see the limbs or head on the ground afterwards. Instead, they just vanish.

I'd like it a lot more if the splatter stuff appeared more on your character as well. If you're a gladiator with a two handed axe, and you multihit, the damned thing decaps and dismembers most everything around you. You should be pretty darned coated after that.

More like using a pickaxe to permanently remove the 'naughty bits'

Saint, you should try Blade of Darkness if you haven't already. If there is one thing it gets right, it's the dismemberment after a particularly powerful combo. Let the limbs fly!!!

I'm guessing the reason I'm not impressed with the gore in Sacred is because the English demo is the censored one. I posted a link to a screenshot that shows the German version on the front page in the news item about an update on this whole thing, and there's NOTHING like that in the demo.
