At first I wanted to replay the patched vanilla version, but after looking through some mods I decided to try Redux.

    https://www.moddb.com/mods/fallout-tactics-redux

There is lot of changes, so the first mission was a yes/no decision if I should continue. The combat is more deadlier, and shorter I think compared to original. The weapons and their stats has also changed significantly. I suggest looking up the txt file in extras folder to see what has been changed. I also started mixing Continuous Turn-Based mode with Individual Turn-Based. CTB is good for trash mob encounters, or real easy ones, to save some time. But it's necessary to remember, that there is a friendly fire, so you need to be careful with single bullet/burst modes. Tougher battles, without having high stats are best in ITB. Enemies and our team are more liable to some negative conditions after being hit (winded, blinded, etc). So far I really like it, makes it more interesting and unpredictable. Let's see how the balance is being kept until the last mission. Also - using drugs during the missions is really helpful.

    Screenshots from:

    1. Brahmin Wood (nice tutorial mission, just raiders and we are starting hoarding resources, while selling the junk at the base. The most tough battle is at the end. We will run into five raiders, including Horus the raider leader. Really intense fight)
    2. Freeport (It's good for testing characters with high stealth, but since I had a more standard squad I didn't use it. We need only to rescue the elder, plus optional prisoner but I just went for 100 % kills routine. We need to be careful in the area with the tents. It's easier to kill raiders carefully while part of them is sleeping. There are some normal patrols as well, and the body count really rises starting from now.
    3. Rock Falls (Kill all raiders and grab a gizmo, while fighting at the end with asshole named Jesse and his henchmen. Really straightforward and fun mission).
    4. Macomb (Escorting the Hummer to safety sounds easy enough, but we've got a lot of spots that are perfect for ambushes. As usual, I methodically clean the map, and thanks to having a car I just grab all the stuff and leave nothing behind. There are some groups of civilians, that will attack us beside raiders).
    5. Preoria (A change of scenery. We start at the village, but quickly go underground to fight giant radscorpions, cockroaches and very nasty turrets. There are three fusion batteries inside the facility, with the giant Roachor at the end of our journey. Saving all of the villagers as the optional task is really easy. Just leave one person which will be switching between internal and external defences. Also, it's recommended to take some RadX and RadAway for this mission).
    6. Quincy (My favourite mission so far. There is lot of optional quests, like helping ghouls or saving prostitutes, Warden Felix, power plant, but it's really satisfying and gives a lot of so much needed experience. Beastlords are fighting along with the animals, such as wolves and deathclaws so it's a very goods test of players skills.)

    Cold Fear (2005)

A horror game released two months after Resident Evil 4 and inevitably in its shadow.

If RE4 is often credited for the modernization of third-person shooters (independently of horror), in many ways Cold Fear is a glimpse of what fixed-camera horror could have evolved into.

The game often uses fixed cameras for tension and atmosphere, but you can aim in an over-the-shoulder perspective at any time and contrary to RE4 you can move while aiming. It's a solid concept though still experimental and broken enough that you will probably keep making stupid mistakes until the very end: I can count on one hand the number of times I took damage and legitimately deserved it.

The game is extremely easy and mouse controls further trivialise the whole thing. It's also very short even by horror standards, so even though I can see someone preferring PCSX2 over PC for savestates, the checkpoint system didn't bother me as much as it could have.

The very sharp dynamic shadows of the PC version sometimes look off but visually the game is extremely pleasant, and with a few exceptions it handles its mood and atmosphere about as well as the material allows. Sure the ending leaves some questions unanswered but the plot is so unremarkable that I didn't really care anymore. It gets the job done and gives you a sense of purpose, that's enough.

The plot's worst enemies are the pacing and navigation: the game is way too short to build familiarity, yet it decided that you shouldn't get a map and still takes for granted that it can throw random names at you and you will know what it's talking about. Expect needless backtracking and crossing your fingers while checking random areas.

It's not terrible but it's still painfully mediocre.

    Meh, whatever /10

I don't get how come nobody now tries to do same level of destructive env that SS had. That game is now 17 years old. It was designed to run on a Pentium 3 with 128 MB of memory - there are fucking watches with comparable processing power now. And no devs are attempting to replicate the feature that just screams emergent gameplay. I am sad and disappointed.

Have you ever heard of a obscure shooter called Battlefield? Or Far Cry? Or Crysis? Or Rainbow 6 Siege? Or Red Faction? Or Control? Or Just Cause? Or Breach? Or ARMA?
What about Hulk: Ultimate Destruction? Or Noita? Or Minecraft? Or Force Unleashed?

Anyway, fully destructible enviroments are really fucking hard to make. That's why nowadays devs that want those sorts of physics are experimenting more and more with voxels instead of pixels.
