Nice to see someone playing through and finishing Anvil of Dawn! It's one of the best looking games of its time (even the prerendered dungeons look quite nice), especially the enemy sprites, which are all beautiful and nicely animated (I much prefer them to the monsters in Lands or Lore and of course Stonekeep).

I guess one thing that annoys me about AoD is that the puzzles are mostly simple floor switches. I usually carry around a few bags full of rocks just for this purpose, but I think unless you are playing a pure melee character this might end up being impossible.

I have got to mention the music. It's simply amazing. Played on a Roland Sound Canvas, it's one of the best such soundtracks of all time, up there with Duke 3D, Doom, Warcraft II, Betrayal at Krondor, Ultima VIII , and the best of the Sierra soundtracks. It was likely composed on a Sound Canvas, but I don't think it takes advantage of its unique features, so I think BASSMIDI and a nice quality soundfont would sound just as good if not better. I also really like the voice acting and script; there's something noble about how the characters interact, and I like that even the "dumb strong guy" PC sounds intelligent and well-mannered. Extremely atmospheric game in my opinion.

Words can hardly express how awesome the endgame is. It's a yuge segment of endless whoopass that includes wuxia masters, villains, ninjas, traitors, random korean wandering heroes, traitors turning good again, massive brawls and emotional engagement. This is Wuxia with a capital fucking W.

I guess this is some kind of 'thanks for playing' message. All I can say is thanks for making this game, fellow Chinese comrades. One of the coolest RPGs I've ever played. Will definitely replay it at some point.

I'm afraid to ask but... is it good?
If you want a combat-focused platformer RPG set in Chernobyl (the author is Ukrainian so it's probably based on his neighbourhood) and don't mind the MLP theme, then I'd say yes.
I haven't progressed much into the game though so it might get worse around the next corner. Also, controls might take some time to get used to.

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time and Warrior Within - first one is game for everyone. A fairy tale with clear bad guys, simple plot and good execution. Smooth animations, timeless art direction, bit simple combat and sometimes you fight not the enemy but camera. Prince even spreads some wisdom during the game - "Woman. You need to show them their place right at the start." Classic. Second one is for angry teens with its darker theme, foul language and metal soundtrack. But I personally enjoy it the most - amazing combat with combos, less linear, more enemy and platforming variety, more varied soundtrack and difficult.

World in Conflict - great combat RTS, smooth controls, nice graphics and effects, good enough story, destructible environments. Needs more color. Multi-player is still active today.

Consortium: The Tower - early access sequel to Consortium. Imagine Deus Ex with lot more dialogue options - you can talk to anyone, persuade them to join you or whatever in a typical RPG Choice and Consequence way. Lots of dialogue options and places/mechanics to explore. Takes place in one giant building. Pretty cool. Right now, content is about 30-40 hours overall.

That's 40 levels without dying. I can get this fairly consistently, but after that, it turns into a survival-horror-puzzle game. 1cc = no deaths, because you need the candy (at least rapid fire) and shoes to "solve" most of the levels consistently. Without them you'll just lose more lives.

Like this one. Many runs ended here.

This level triggers an immediate Hurry Up! and the Baron appears. And like in many other levels >40, enemies will escape bubbles in one second. No upgrades? Tough shit.
