I dunno about everyone else, but I for one will never stop whining about review embargoes. It's a scummy practice that encourages consumers to make uninformed purchases, particularly if they want to be a part of the initial wave and exploratory phase of vidya discussion, which is especially pertinent to Souls games. Fuck review embargoes.

Ok?

Reviews for Sekiro are coming out a day before the game itself.

If you're pre-ordering games then you're a retard anyway. You won't miss "muh exploratory phase" by waiting a day or two to see first impressions from paying beta testers.

I agree with that. But the embargo itself is no reason for being pessimistic about the game, like other user some comments ago.

Review embargo is definitely a scummy practice but I won't read any reviews anyway. They'll be either written by imbeciles or full of spoilers. I'll just briefly check the user score on Meta, if there isn't any major technical or Activision related problem.

I had this argument in another thread, but 90% of the time, you can absoluely tell wether a game is gonna suck elephant dick or not before any reviews hit. If the game isn't an obvious shit fest, then the only question that remains is just how enjoyable the entire thing is. Is it middling? Is it great? An IGN review won't answer this.

If you're a gaming enthusiast, which I assume everybody who posts here is, then regular reviews are almost completely irrelevant.

Even "specialist" reviews can't be relied upon. All the Souls Yutubers and Twitchers were raving about DS3 and that game ended up pissing me off galactically. And many of my favourite Soulers shat on DS2 profusely and I ended up having such a blast playing it I can't even.

So no, fuck everyone else's opinion, I'll make my own.

100%

Right before its release, ENB used to rave about Dark Souls 2, claiming it was even better than Dark Souls 1. We follow each other on twitter and I saw his top 25 games of all time list he posted yesterday. Dark Souls 1 is his #2 while Dark Souls 2 isn't even on the list. I like the guy and he does know his shit, but this is a prime example of how hype ruins everything.

edit: this is not a statement on the quality of DkS2 or 3, just how quick opinions can change.

So Youtubers didn't get advanced copies this time around? If I vaguely remember with DS3 Twitch was full of the game a week before release.
They did. A jap streamer is going to be streaming the full game later today. If it's anything like DkS3, they'll have to stop streaming after a certain point.

But pre-ordering doesn't cost a thing and you can just choose not to buy your copy if you don't want it on release day after all.

There are two types of pre-orders.

There's pre-ordering the game a week before release so you can pre-load and don't have to scramble on release day.

And there's pre-ordering games a year before release, giving publishers interest free loans so they can finance their newest scam.

Dark Souls 2 was just restarted halfway into development ... + had a director change, which perfectly explains how shit it ended up being.

The game was so shit it ended up being miles better than 3, and possess some of the best levels and moments in the series. :M

It's actually pretty funny that those FROM fanboys like Vaati and others, ignore DS2 or shit on it (despite possibly being the best in the series). But when it comes to DS3 they can't help themselves but to jizz all over it's fanservice or bloodborne-esque boss fights and can't even point a single flaw in the game

a new Devil May Cry and a new FromSoftware title in the same month

I bought DMC5, so I'll pirate Sekiro.

Well he did work on the guide for DS2 and shit... I like his content, him not that much. His 'from the dark' series was (is) REALLY good content. And he started making something similar with P5 i n twitch which was top noch content also but no one wanted to watch it so it didnt last long.

He had the best Youtube content on DeS and DS1 bar none. But I CAN'T STAND watching his streams. He's one of those streamers that insist on thanking for every 1$ contribution for 10 minutes plus he's constantyl gaychatting with idiots about pizza and other inane shit even in the middle of an atmospheric Bloodborne playthrough. I get it, he doesn't have many real life friends down there in Alabama or whatever shithole he lives in so chat is his social life but it's unbearable to watch.

Which only further proves my point. Dude's been working on a guide for the game, meaning he played the shit out of it. He continued to hype it before release and claimed it's quite possibly the best thing ever made and then, a while after the dust settled, he eventually realized it's From Softs worst Souls game as evident by his top 25 list (inb4angrycodexers).

Just checked the Steam page again and there's "Internet connection required". Is this game Denuvoed? Afaik usually Steam says "3rd party EULA" if there's a Denuvo which isn't there. But why else would a single-player game need an active internet connection to run?

Any number of things might've fucked their marriage. And afaik his daughter stayed with him? At least he always yaps about how he has to drive her to AB or pick her up from XY and shit.

There's a * next to that line, which traces back to
Pre-order and receive a Digital Artbook and Digital Mini Soundtrack upon the game's release.*
which means you need internet connection to download those, nothing to do with Denuvo.
