There's good reason to expect incline from this.

The only thing that was truly disappointing about Dragonfall was that it was such an incline compared to Shadowrun Returns that we couldn't refer to it as Dragonfail.
That's a real waste of a good Codexian pun there. A real waste.

This will be an important test for the long-term viability of Kickstarter. It is after all the sequel to a previously Kickstarted game.

From what I have read about Dragonfall sales and the stats we have on steam players, there's a risk this won't get the funds it needs to truly expand the engine and setting into something resembling a large persistent shadowrun campaign

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see how they approach the budget and scope for this campaign.

Dragonfall's stats on Steam actually weren't that bad on release:

Blackguards (green), MMX (blue), Banner Saga (orange), Shadowrun (white)

Dwarfed by the likes of Divinity and Wasteland 2, of course, but it's competitive among the second tier of retro RPGs.

I'm gonna back it first. Back off!

Remember that they made two campaigns the first time around. They could stick to one campaign this time and use all funds to focus on that. I'd say set the goal at $600-700k and go from there. I still think it would get funded at that level. STEAM wasn't the only place this was released on. We don't have GOG numbers.

Anyway, this topic was first created to ask people what they want in Shadowrun Hong Kong and I would still be interested in hearing the opinions of fellow Codexers.

I'm not sure they will be able to improve their formula, but I'm going to back them anyways.

People have been asking for XBLA and PSN versions for years now, and I think this time we're likely to get them.

If this was a Doublefine game, you'd still be awaiting the 4-hour sequel to Dead Man's Switch, coming 2016.

If they release this on mobile/tablets, they might as well port it for PS4/XBONE. Preferrably, they develop for PC first and then they can do whatever they want, imo.

They're making Necropolis without a Kickstarter.

To be honest, I think they might be afraid that Shadowrun doesn't have an audience, so Kickstarting it is the safer option. If it fails, bye bye Shadowrun, but at least they don't go bankrupt.

    - More persistent world that doesn't need engine workarounds
    - More of those choices within missions that DF already had, where you can decide to go against your orders or to even side with your enemy, or do something for the Black Lodge
    - More clothing choices (hey, I just like dressing my character)
    - Possibly stealth missions if they can do it with the engine
    - More powerful and easy to use editor so we get MORE MODS, preferably with backwards compatibility towards old modules

They don't really need to improve much. Dragonfall was really good - if it was longer, with more sidequests and more C&C... I would ask only for lootable bodies and more control of the party's equipment.

It has a much larger audience than Necropolis, I think. It would do them good to do a little more marketing than they're doing now, and I don't mean invest thousands of dollars in ads, but give some interviews to popular youtubers and shit like that.

Yeah, for a fairly big Kickstarter (I assume they will get a decent amount of money), they have been surprisingly silent about this. No hyping it up in interviews, no nothing other than the announcement and that teaser screen. I have only heard about the game here and on NeoGAF. Other big Kickstarter projects usually get mentioned on many different places.

HBS definitely has some kind of systemic PR problem.

That makes what's going to happen in three days that much more interesting.

They need to reach out to the communities a lot more. I know lots of people who like RPGs and like Shadowrun, but they haven't heard about SRR yet because they don't follow gaming news all too closely, and word of mouth for this game hasn't really picked up yet - it's comparatively obscure for being a rather well-funded kickstarter game.

They should do an interview with Matt Barton. That could possibly help spread the word a bit.

Does anyone have any data on how much reports about the game there were during the original kickstarter? Infinitron ? Maybe the sites and magazines will report again now that HBS return to kickstarter.

I wasn't a newsposter back then, and wasn't as aware of these things as I am now. But from my impression, the original Shadowrun campaign and the initial Dead Man's Switch release was relatively well-covered in the games media. They had a huge fall-off in PR quality after that.

They should hire you as their PR spammer. Wouldn't be the first time a Codexer got recruited into the gaming industry.

I'll stay off the hype train for now. At least until the Kickstarter goes live and some promising details are known. The most interesting part will be how/if this funding cycle works.
