If I recall correctly, the original Kickstarter came out of nowhere, without even the limited buildup we're getting now. They also didn't seem to have much of an idea about what they'd be creating (at one point, they were talking about possibly having multiplayer sessions where one person DMs), which, combined with the insanely short development schedule (originally it was supposed to be just 9 months, but it was extended to 15 months), caused the problems seen in DMS.

If I were HBS, I would look for a way to make decking encounters noticeably more puzzle-like in their design. (while normal meatspace combat would be more "straight-up")

Are there any relevant pnp print publications these days? Those and conventions would be the ideal place to do some positive word of mouth PR close to those shadowrun fans who don't follow gaming

I'm just curious if they could in some way introduce the Astral plane.

It would be awesome, but we need to see existing mechanics strengthened first. I like Infini's idea of make the matrix more puzzle-like, and we desperately need a proper inventory and the ability to swap items with team mates on the fly.

Let see how good (but more probably bad...) the Codex is to guess the final amount of pledge the Honk Kong is going to have.

That's... a little high. A sensible estimate would be in the 3.5-3.7 mil range.

    I want to believe.

    1.500.001 - 2.000.000

Whoever gets the closest number will be gifted a digital copy of the game by Infiltron.. err, I mean by me. You need to vote in the next 10 hours to be eligible for this competition. I had nothing to do with the poll, but it would be fun to see who is closest. If I'm closest, I'll gift myself a copy and then I will play the STEAM version and GOG version.

    My guess: $1,947,558

The poll could probably use an additional range under 1,500,000. 0-750,000 and 750,000 to 1,500,000.

Judging by current voting, it also needs another range above 3 million.

  16. Guessing under $1,500,000 since kickstarter's ded. I'll most likely back the game since I liked Dragonfall but I don't imagine they'll get lods of emone.

*shrug* I ain't gonna force you, but it should be Wizfall's decision since he made the poll!

Just because there hasn't been any high profile games to back for the past 1.5 years doesn't mean Kickstarter is dead IMO.

You are forgetting that the original SRR Kickstarter raised 1.8 mil and that these things tend to have diminishing returns.

And you are forgetting about the positive reception of Dragonfall, the high Kickstarter average of Chinese backers, about inflation and the weak Ruble.

Compare Wasteland 2 to Torment: Tides of Numenera.
Sequence made a few thousand dollars. There Came an Echo Made more than $100k.
Cthulhu Saves the World enhanced version for PC & XBox 360 made $7k, Cosmic Star heroine made $133k.

Anything could happen. My worry is that there isn't much time left before the Kickstarter... starts and I have personally not seen much about this campaign-

Those are different games entirely, though. Diminishing returns applies much more strongly when you're talking purely "more of the same".

Yeah, I know. I just want this to make a decent amount of money. Desperation setting in.

  25. Not only that, but enough videogame Kickstarters have been released that people most likely won't believe "If you give us your money YOU WILL BE YOUNG AGAIN! CURES THE GOUT, SCURVY, AND THE SWEATS! BUY BRIAN FARGO'S WONDER ELIXIR TODAY!".

I mean shit, look at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/fugitivegames/into-the-stars space game, kinda selling itself as in-ship FTL, has pretty animated gifs and the whole nine yards. They're gonna hit their goal but they aren't raking in the cash they (probably) would've back at the wave of Kickstarter hype that SRR caught.

I'd be happy to be wrong since Dragonfall was good stuff and I'd like more Shadowrun, but I just don't see the Kickstarter going crazy.
