One of many articles on top media sites; predictably it starts with a 'history lesson'.

I guess it's safe to say MCA has gone inXile!

    :yeah:

p.s. 25 pages in two threads and no one made that quip?

I assume that Avellone's departure wasn't a surprise (considering that he's a co-owner and can't just say 'see ya!'). That's probably where it all felt apart.

You're both right. Van Buren is legendary among us RPG nerds, but ask a AAA core audience what it is and they'll just stare at you blankly.

InExile hasn't been targeting the masses though.

AAA core audience won't touch TB RPGs with a 10 foot pole to begin with.

    That's the point.

Edit: To clarify, if you're asking "Is the trademarked term 'Van Buren' known well enough to justify any kind of large-budgeted RPG project", the answer is going to depend on to whom you're posing the question. Can InXile pull this off? Who exactly are they going to target? Potentially adding MCA to the mix only confuses that conjecture even more.

Edit 2: Interesting times we're living in, Codex.

Pretty sure that his tweet saying he's fed up with having what he cares about being crushed again referred to his last project's cancellation.

    Feargus done fucked up now.

You should also look at his Twitter timeline and favourites. Many of his more recent favourites have been people asking him or Obsidian for another Kickstarter. When I tagged the RPG Codex account managed by Crooked Bee with a tweet about how Fallout 4 didn't interest me, but an Obsidian Kickstarter led by him, he replied to a <3 to us. His lack of involvement with PoE could be because of involvement with bigger AAA projects that got cancelled, as for the Kickstarter that never happened, maybe we'll hear about it in the future. Could be that the shitty Kickstarter card game was the straw that broke the camel's back.

It'll be funny if he joins a MMO/console/blizzard company.

It was on Facebook, and occurred towards the end of May, I think? Has to be one of the newer projects because Pillars of Eternity was already released by then.

lol at all the people hoping he'll work for inXile but disgusted by the idea of him joining Todd. Over the course of their existence Bethesda has managed to create at least one good game, a feat which, given what I've heard about WL2, inXile still hasn't quite managed to replicate. Intentions mean nothing if the results aren't there.

This is a way better vision of the ideal future:
    One can only hope.

Probably just gone to Valve to work on Portal 2.5, or teaming up with Ken Levine's Dire Straits indie outfit.

I dunno - the 'jobbing writing talent' gig that people like Pratchet have never seemed that satisfying - it's typically Marvel-method writing, when you have to give context to a bunch of stuff that's already been designed, or else your plot gets butchered when shit gets cut. But maybe he'll go full tilt into 'guru for hire' and keep things fresh advising and contributing to startups like FTL.

Jasede, it doesn't really mean anything at all. As has already been pointed out, and speculated, Van Buren's load was blown in New Vegas. MCA teaming up with Brian is just a dream at this point. Fargo's only 'selling point' on the idea is player-on-player conflict. There's really nothing there other than a name.

Except hope. Hope springs (spergs) eternal, right?

inXile would be a good place for him. A guy like him needs to be on the bleeding edge. I am not sure if working on BT4 would be a good use of his abilities since its a straight up dungeon crawl.
