Besides the player vs Player thing, Fargo and MCA came up with a unique twist on the whole Post Apocalypse setting as well. Of which we have no fucking clue what that is.

It would strike me as a very weird coincidence that Fargo should namedrop MCA and a possible involvement in Van Buren in an interview and a day later the man announces he quit his own company and these two events should have nothing to do with each other? Possible of course, but still..

You are aware there's plenty of details about Van Buren's plot and design out there, right? The 'unique twist' sounds like a marketing spiel, and Van Buren was never going to have the 'player versus player' stuff.

They do have something to do with each other, but not in the most obvious way of 'InXile hires Avellone'.

Agreed. Ofcourse we don't know what went on behind the scenes, for all we know it was Avellone's 'fault' some conflict led to this. But these sort of gossip oriented passive-aggressive comments are not professional.

OTOH we would not be having a chance of getting the juicy details without comments like these to add fuel to the fire so...

In fact this might mean that Pillars of Eternity had something to do with this. Avellone did not like how it turned out, but during developement might have been placated by the fact that he would head or have greater input in the next Obsidian kickstarted project. That got cancelled or something happened that led to it, and that resulted in bitterness between Avellone and the others. He probably blamed Sawyer for it.

    EDIT: Fuk u Kem0sabe :rpgcodex:

    Ahem.

Despite its overall invisible status today, there are enough people in the know. I am sure a significant proportion of those who kickstarted Wasteland 2 are at least aware that such a game existed in theory at some point.

Ok bros, where is a link or image to Avellone's Facebook post a few months ago? I can vaguely remember it, but I quickly forgot all about it (I'm busy working now and usually forget stuff I see during the day). That should have been a sign of his imminent departure.

All that is needed to explain things to be honest. "At some point". It happened before, but enough is enough. Must be difficult not being able to work on awesome things, while others get a Kickstarter, inXile make Torment and Bethesda make Fallout.

I remember interviewing him and asking some questions about Aliens. He seemed enthusiastic and gave good answers. I can't imagine what it feels like to work on a game and then it gets canceled and will never ever be released because you don't own the IP.
