Yup. That guy made a shitload of good games before losing it. That whole everything is about the now is another prime reason for the decline.

 

Cliff is a talented guy and one of those few individual success stories in the games industry that is so often downplayed by publishers. I don't think he can be held responsible for the decisions of Epic (other than that consoles and mass market appeal = money), and it's not at all surprising that he wants to move on after working on three triple-A games back-to-back for the last five-plus years.

I hold him responsible for the stupid things that came out of his mouth from time to time.

 

Well he is kind of an impulsive dudebro, it's true, but if you have ever read or seen an interview with him on stuff like game and level design it's clear he knows his stuff. Gears of War might not have been a 100% original idea but he can largely be held responsible for its success, decline or not.

 

If there ever were a golden era for gaming, we're living in it right now. Gaming is more diverse and filling more niche market with more money, as well as the main stream market, than ever before.

I highly doubt that bioware will change anything, with the founders leaving, and will continue the same course that they began with, with NWN and KOTOR, releasing mediocre to shitty games. I keep hoping for DA3, but I will probably be disappointed.

 

I agree. I mean, I couldn't disagree more with his design philosophy, but I recall enjoying some of his interviews.
