[ Update ]

Just to keep in the whole Japan mood and all here is this little tidbit. Apparantly Shogun 2 - Total War got a new DLC. For just under 2 euro you get ten new elite units. Get them now so you too can complain bitterly about how overpowered they are and how they lack historical accuracy.

The Total War: SHOGUN 2 Sengoku Jidai Unit Pack adds 10 new elite units for use across the different game modes of SHOGUN 2. Once you've purchased the content, you will unlock all 10 of these versatile units in single and multiplayer Campaign mode under the conditions stated below. They will also be available in the Avatar Conquest and single player Battle modes of the game when playing with the appropriate clan.

Spotted @ Total War Center

Man I got me these games called Rome and Medieval II and I got thousands of units, maps, campaigns, scenarios all for free!

Fucking CA, and they dare to bullshit that their 'new' engine since Empire is somehow all too advanced and shit and that's why they don't have the ability to be modded except at a bare minimum. At least be honest that you're trying to flog packs of ridiculous novelty units to suckers and that's why you stopped modders from making their own.

I'm dirty on them not for their DLC; there would be enough arseholes to buy it anyway; but modding has turrned Rome and Medieval II from being fantasy games in a semi-historical setting into as historically correct and engaging as could be done within the inherent limitations of the engine, and without it, Empire, Napoleon and Shogun II are firmly doomed to just be fantasy games.

You should play Paradox games. They're superbly moddable.

game is solid, but the DLCs are retarded. especially this one. half the units are stuff like OP railguns and archers with stealth field generators, while the other half have been in mods for months. plus some of them are bugged (the new monks are clones, daikyu samurai change model while they're firing etc..). obvious ripoff is obvious

The fun thing is that Empire, Napoleon and Shogun have lots of unit mods because creating units is one of the easiest things to mod in that engine. It's impossible to change the map and add new buildings though, which are things that the DLC doesn't change either

dunno about ETW/NTW (deleted those pieces of shit very soon after dl'ing them. plus that era is uninteresting to me), but in STW2 it's actually impossible (as of now) to actually create new units (i.e. new models or animations. not even new weapon models), and the best you can hope to do is mix-n-match existing weapons/animations with models and modify the stats. hardly "creating new units"
